Tried this place on June 19, 2022 around 8 pm after hearing a lot of positive stuff. Ordered Nalli Nihari, Chicken pakoras, vegetable samosas, mutton biryani and naan. First thing: the portion sizes are huge. The nihari is enough for atleast 4 people. The staff is friendly and courteous. The place got really busy but I can understand why. Food was outstanding. The Nihari was rich and delicious. Chicken pakoras were lightly battered and came out fresh. Mutton biryani was spiced perfectly. Vegetable samosas were delectable. The freshly made naan made the nihari more enjoyable. Will definitely be visiting again read more

Absolutely horrible experience at Ali nihari. We were there for an anniversary dinner and called ahead of time to place reservation for 17 people. We knew this is a large party that is why we made the reservation ahead of time. Upon arriving, the staff had no table for us or even was able to accommodate the family. After 15 minutes, we were finally seated in separate tables. Okay fine no worries we said we will manage make it work. The staff was literally running around like their head was cut off. Didn't understand English or Hindi and it was hard to get the manager to even bring us our utensils, food and drinks. We asked for basic things that you would ask for as I mentioned above and we didn't get them til after we were almost done eating. The nihari was HORRIBLE. I mean if your restaurants name is Ali nehari you would think the main dish would be good. I told the server about our experience and all he said was ok. That's it lol he said OK. The crazy part was after we got our bill they charged us for 26 sodas!! 26 sods in 12 adults and 5 kids... are you serious??? Literally it was a shit show and I can go on and on about Ali nihari and our experience today but please be happy I'm giving you 2 stars for the good seekh fry and paratha. I would recommend you do not visit Ali nehari for a family gathering if you want to leave the restaurant feeling crappy about spending a good occasion there. read more

We came at a time where the restaurant was open, and they even seated us and took half of our order. But in the middle of the waiter taking our order he randomly left and said their kitchen is closed and can't take our order, and then proceeded to kick us out. Very poor management and don't know how to coordinate with their costumers on their opening and closing times. read more

Where Mysore Woodland's once resided a new restaurant is making a claim. Pakistani BBQ and Nihari. Basically, grilled foods and stews (slow cooked curries). They haven't updated the original layout much. Though added bright lighting. Tuesdays on Devon are usually quiet because that has always been known to be their "Sunday." Their one off day. Most Indian restaurants, markets and businesses adhered to that local routine for decades but as newer businesses are opening up, looks like they are creating their new normal. It was a past Tuesday when I thought to take a random look to see if any such restaurants might be open and we were lucky to find this one. We walked in and were given a table immediately. The place was well lit and had three gents as servers. Once we arrived two more small groups entered as well. I was however taken a bit back by the casual nature of the waitstaff. Many did not wear masks until I asked about it, then they put it on when addressing us. Otherwise, they'd wear it under the chin, dangling from ears or just not at all. When I have my elderly folks with me, I'd like to practice some safety. (Let's be honest, we'd all like to be safe. Breakthrough cases happen but during this time we try our best while still trying to enjoy a few meals out.) Aside from PPE gaffs; their food was excellent and in that cultural, respectful mindset kinda way the waitstaff were extra kind with my folks. So they enjoyed the time and suggested a future return. **Since this is still a new restaurant, their waitstaff could use more direction when taking orders/ fulfilling requests, dealing with customer questions regarding food or recommendations. Plating food could use some advisement as well. When using white porcelain dinnerware it's good if the kitchen staff can wipe down bowls, plates and dishes prior to when food hits the table. When a bowl of curry comes to the table and it looks as if the bowl was used like a serving ladle, it is not appetizing. read more

Was craving Desi food while visiting Chicago. The name that comes to mind when talking about Devon Street is Sabri Nihari but someone recommended Ali's Nihari over them. Well I haven't been to Sabri so I cannot comment but the Nihari at Ali's just hit the spot. The fact that the gravy with Nalli and base gravy were served separately so that everyone can mix based on their palette. Frontier chicken was another great item I tried out first time. Unlike traditional byriani this was a perfect blend of sweet, savoury and spicy. Chicken seekh kabab was also good. Bihari kabab was a bit dry and chewy. I rarely write reviews, but I had to for this place. I moved here from California a year ago and have had a challenge finding Pakistani food that is fresh and authentic, for some reason they always make rice very bland here in Chicago. Every place I've tried before this has had garlic naan that is dry and bland, nihari that has a weird sour aftertaste, and they've even managed to make plain basmati rice bland here. But not Ali's Nihari. This place has the most well balanced dishes. The biryani was perfection and the raita that came along with it was so flavorful. The paratha and the naan were fresh. I ordered the Ali Nihari and it was cooked perfectly, gravy consistency was the right amount of thickness and the meat was fresh and tender. The only thing missing was a ginger garnish on nihari which I also never see here in Chicago. But not a big deal since I had some fresh ginger at home. Overall what's important is this place makes some of the freshest, clean tasting Pakistani food here in Chicago. Perfection. I finally found my place! read more

Lively, busy Friday night, 40 minute wait. We enjoyed delicious carry-out instead. Every dish we had was fresh, fragrant and savory with just the right amount of heat: Ali Nihari, Chicken Makhni, Frontier Chicken, Beef Samosas, Veggie Samosas and Garlic Naan. I am a very picky eater. I had been in Ali's Nihari three times since Ali Bahi opened this restaurant. I am about 50 miles away from the restaurant, but I made special trips just to get the food for my family. The place is nice & clean with plenty of room for guests to enjoy food and not bump into each other. Ali Bahi(Owner & Chef) himself welcomed the gusts, I had the pleasure of talking with him.I had tried 6,7 different dishes,5 of them were excellent by the quantity and the taste,2 of them were good. We hosted a dinner party and right after paying for the meal, we were yelled at in front of our guests by the OWNER. We were told "this isn't a banquet hall, you and and guest are done eating? leave." Never have we ever been harassed within 5 minutes of paying for the check. Don't trust the reviews below me, these are most likey theor family memebrs or friends, because I can assure the food is itter garbage, meat isn't even ooked all the way and nihari has no taree in it whatsoever. Service is poor, bathrooms are dirty and tables were sticky. Stay away and save your time and money, I wasted $73 here and not a single entrée was good. Absolute buffoons trying to run a business. I called them last week on a Wednesday asking to make a reservation for 16people for today(sunday) they told me "could you please call us at 2pm on sunday and InshAllah we will get you seated" so i asked "are you sure that you will have space if i call last minute? Im trying to make a reservation now so we know we have seating for sure" and the guy on the phone -ehtisham- told me that yes for sure just call on sunday and InshAllah we will get you seated....coincidentally my family and i were in the area on friday night so my dad decided to go and asked to make a reservation for our group and also told them that they can take a $100deposit if they wanted...and the guy again told him sorry we dont do early reservation but you can come on sunday or call and we will definitely "InshAllah" get you in....so here comes sunday(today) and we have all our guests coming from an hour away that we have told to meet us at ali's nihari... I called them at 2pm to make the reservation again like they asked me to and the guy said can you please call after 5mins and i will "InshAllah" get you booked and i asked him what 5mins was gojng to do either they have space or they don't and if they dont then just let me know so i can make other arrangements but he said i will check on that so please call in 5mins....10mins later i call him again..this time he tells me...can you please call in 1hr and we will FOR SURE INSHALLAH get you and your party booked. At this point i had enough so decided to not call him but my dad; naive, wanted to give them another chance. He called them an hour later and the same guy tells him you can call a bit later and we will know for sure. At this point my dad asked him why are they giving us a run around and not just making the reservation or telling us if they dont have space and the guy slips out that they have a big reservation and so he DOESNT know if they will have any space for us and our guests..mind you this is about 5 hrs before we were supposed to be meeting them and everywhere else is booked since its the last day of Ramadan. He had the audacity to say that we should show up and if he has space he will "INSHALLAH" seat us.
