I was ready for a change and Jamie came in and helped me turn things around. We started small by reorganizing my linen closet and getting rid of towels (which we donated to the animal shelter!) Eventually I went through areas of my apartment I had been avoiding and let go down of things I had been holding on to for years. It was helpful to have her there, reinforcing the spirit of non-attachment and coming up with solutions for organizing the things I did keep. Since Jamie's Move Space Magic - I've found it easier to put things back in their place and keep surfaces clean. My space feels lighter and instead of being a place that at times felt stagnant/ overwhelming, it's becoming my sanctuary!

My wife and I had the pleasure of going on the 90 minute dog sledding tour on 2/23/24 at Alpine…read moreAdventures. Our guide Tyler was great, and taught us a lot about how his dogs operate. The views were excellent, and the dogs were very well trained. We'd never been on a dog sled before much less driven one, but it was very manageable even for novices like us. We had a great time, and I would definitely recommend Alpine Adventures. Only point of caution I would mention here is the remoteness of the location. We drove down from Vail on Route 24, and it was a challenging drive over a mountain pass with it having snowed just an inch or two the night before. If there's any snow on the road, I'd be sure to give yourself extra time to get here. Afterwards, we drove up Route 91 back towards Denver and that route was much easier of a drive.

So for me to take time to write this already says a lot. Our guide was amazing. He was sweet as pie and I wish him well. He's the only reason why we enjoyed our morning. He interacted with my son wonderfully and hearing my son laugh and squeal with joy is the best. There's 100+ dogs. You pull up and the facilities are horrific! Should be torn down or put into some Freddy Kruger Nightmare on Elm Street movie, It's a safety hazard for humans and animals. We paid almost $800 for 3 people + a $200 tip to our guide (the tip part was fine), had to use the most disgusting, dirty, lopsided and FULL outhouses I've ever seen, front desk lady was extremely rude and the list goes on and on. Overall, you ride around in an open field. We've been on many other sledding tours and those were worth every penny! We saw others with a larger group be separated, 1-2 in the dog sled and the rest being pulled in a some sort of wagon/cart. They had to alternate in the dog sled. Typically parties are all in sleds following each other. I've never seen anything like this. I do not recommend this dog sledding business.

The Forest Service doesn't have great information about this hike so I wanted to add some extra…read moreinformation here! This was our schedule for the hike: Drive 12:30pm to 2:30pm Hike up 2:30 to 4 Hike down 4 to 5 Drive down 5 to 6:40 Our house in Basalt is right by the Whole Foods, so plan on a 2 hour drive from there. Sept 23, 2014- high in basalt was low 70s, when we arrived at the site the temp was 52, when we left it was 57. Dress in layers and bring ear muffs if you get cold easily. It was coldest up by the lake. Dogs are allowed on leashes. The way up is definitely harder. It's almost all uphill and the elevation begins at 10,800 so if you aren't used to it, you will definitely feel it. Take it slow like we definitely did and you will be fine. We didn't have our hiking boots with us on this trip and we were mostly fine. The benefits of hiking boots would have been: (1) you cross the stream and it's pretty muddy so a waterproof shoe would have been nice. (2) on the climb down from the second lake, it would have been nice to have hiking boots to prevent the toe crunch. Other than that it's a hike that's totally doable in tennis shoes. The second lake is supposedly only 1/4 mile from the first but it's extremely steep and we didn't find the trail that was supposed to be there. That hike to the second lake took a while. The first lake is prettier so you can skip the second one if you aren't feeling up to it. Bring lots of food, water, TP and a disposal bag to pack it out, first aid kit, and a full tank of gas. You will not find any cell service or anyone to help you up there so make sure you are prepared. There's lots of brush that will graze your legs so pants might be better. We made it up in a bmw sedan but the last 10 miles were a really rough drive - the roughest we've ever been on and we've been on some scary drives. If you have an SUV, bring it. Go very slow and take your time. The last 10 miles will take you an hour in a sedan on the way up, 45 on the way down. Make sure your tires are filled properly, your spare tire is ready to go, and that someone in your car knows how to change a flat. You will barely see anyone on this road. The drive takes longer than the hike (4 hours of driving for a 2.5 hour hike). The drive is absolutely stunning though. The leaves were changing colors - and most of the drive is along a creek. Beautiful. On the hike, the only wildlife we saw were small birds, chipmunks, and weasels. The directions on the hiking sites say at the end of the 10 miles to drive another 100 ft and park by the bulletin board. That 100 ft of road is almost impossible to get up, especially in a sedan, so park by the gate and walk up.

I can't believe I haven't given a review to The Schussbaumer Ski Club yet? Yelp is telling me to…read moredo a review so I guess not. A great spot in the mountains for Denver and Colorado Metro Area residents for active adults in the heart of Breckenridge. You can't beat it for the cost! There is a state of the art kitchen, dorm style bunk bed rooms (but they are comfy), a bar and social area stocked with beer and a wine club (for a nominal fee), ski/board tuning bench, heated patio complete with fire pit and torch lamps for socializing outside when there is a chill. Great group of people in a very social/active club. There is a process to becoming a member and membership is extremely limited at this time, however I feel very lucky to be a member of this fabulous club.

So in 1961 Breckenridge Ski Resort opened and shortly after construction on the beloved Chalet completed. It sleeps nearly 80 people comfortably plus sleep out sofas. The ski club is a great way to meet new people who become friends and you have someone to ski/board with. The age of members runs from mid 20s to 80s. The set up is like a private frat house. You pay a yearly fee that covers your stay there as much as you want (no more then 4 nights in a row). You arrive and sign in to a bed. There's a men & women's floor with 9 rooms each that sleep 4 and private hall bathrooms. The house does not have a cleaning service so every member has to pitch in while there and in the summer we do renovations such as painting, cutting wood, etc. The large kitchen is great. Many members eat breakfast in and either go out or make dinner and stay in by a warm fire. The club members plan many fun themed dinner events such as last night's Valentines Massacre Italian Dinner. There have been many wine & cheese events, 70s & 80s parties, holiday gatherings, etc. We have a few ski tuning benches and a tool cabinet stocked with tools, wax, P-Tex, etc. for those members who like to maintain their own equipment. So, now that you're checked in with a bed, well fed and waxed skis you simply walk out the door to catch a local bus to either the 8 or 9 bases and when you're ready to call it a day you can ski back to the parking lot. There's usually someone already there with a fire going too. For more information on the club and how to be a member check out the website or come to many of the social gatherings around Denver. www.schussbaumer.com

I forgot my wallet in the pocket of my life jacket. I came back after hours just hoping that somebody would be around. When nobody was there, I called the number on the trailer. Johnny answered, drove 10 min back to the shop, helped me find my wallet, and celebrated with me like a madman when we found it. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Just an authentically good human being with good rentals at good prices right on the water.
