Over the past year+ at times there has been a wait. Obviously due to them not being open inside. Each visit I can't say that there's ever been any problems. The staff that I have interacted with have always been friendly and accommodating. Yesterday, later in the day I went to make a purchase and realized my debit card was missing. Had I lost or misplaced it? Well, I have no idea but called and had it cancelled ASAP. Earlier today I stopped in at the Seabrook NH branch to have it replaced. The staff member who helped me was excellent and any wait wasn't long . I was out with my new card within maybe 15 minutes. Very pleased!

Today is September 12, 2023, and I still haven't received the funds despite numerous phone calls, a letter, pleading. You CANNOT get to a real banker from the branch you have your money in. Instead, they route you, no matter what phone number you call, to a service center. Those answering the phone are polite, incompetent and have no vested interest in you. I've done business with this bank for approximately 9 years and had no problems in the past when they had their original moniker, "Newburyport Five Cent Savings." Fast forward to a bureaucratic bloated morass of incompetence (they have something like 20-30 VP's in this organization), and here we are today with a new moniker, "Newburyport Bank - Journey Well." I would say my journey has been from he**. I can't get my money from this fraudulent bank, and I believe they never sent me my funds but, instead, and it's an old strategy of banks, they are floating the money, getting interest off of the funds and will, when they decide to, send me my money. Beware. Crooks. Liars.

When my son started to show an interest in saving money (age 3) one of the tellers gave him special booklets to save quarters with, which were quickly filled up. I brought him to the main office and they had him "fill out" the paperwork to open his first account and deposit the quarters he had saved up; it was awesome how they played it up so that he felt like a grown up... he still talks about it to this day! Fully recounting my story would take far too much time and space…read more The largest picture is that getting the branch manager only got on the phone after I spent three hours seeking aid from other branches and the corporate office. Even then, she clearly strongly resisted speaking with me. This conversation occurred after she knew that two of her employees had given me scads of incorrect information and had shown a complete lack of understanding of banking by using terms such as "I think" and "probadly." By this time, I had been materially disadvantaged due to an error by the second employee. Rather then offering an easy operations solution, the manager provided a solution that required me to undergo the inconvenience of a trip o another branch solely due to the error regarding which I was entirely blameless. This is during a Covid uptick while I have an underlying condition. The manager very quickly told me that she does not speak to customers, that "too many customers want to speak to me," and that she "only works by appointment." She added that her employees are qualified to handle customer. She did not respond when I replied that that obviously was not the case. The manager further stated that she knew that I had been irate for 2.5 hours and made it cLear that she never intended to speak to me. The added injury to all these injuries is that I very justifiably spoke to the manager in an angry but not at all obscene or threatening tone. Her response was that she was going to hang up if I continued to speak to her like that. A small branch like Newburyport that has a smaller staff needs a better person at the helm. The larger and sadder truth is that this manager clearly lacks the the proper attitude to occupy the corner office at any branch but almost definitely will continue doing so either in Newburyport or another location that will need to suffer under her "leadership."

Several months ago much of my jewelry was stolen. One recent weekend, my husband took me shopping to replace a couple of pairs of earrings, and he surprised me with a necklace and matching earrings and a couple of other lovely pieces as well. The next Monday, a bank manager called, asking for my husband. She said that regretfully, she couldn't speak to me about why she was calling but she needed to speak to my husband as soon as possible. I was mildly annoyed as all of our accounts are joint accounts but I called him at work and asked him to let me know what was going on after he spoke with her. He called me back a few minutes later, chuckling. Someone at the bank had noticed that his bank card had been used to buy several pieces of jewelry at different stores and they just wanted to make sure that he had made the purchases. She didn't want to tell me what she was calling about in case he had purchased them as gifts for a birthday or anniversary - she didn't want to ruin a surprise. This is a bank with a heart that cares about its customers' accounts and about its customers. This is not the first time that they have called to verify expenditures when debits from our accounts have deviated far away from our usual spending pattern.
