I scheduled an appointment with Denise as she's listed as a Master Stylist. She also has curly hair…read morelike mine, so I figured she would be able to do a good job. When I got there she seemed okay, just a bit distracted. She began with washing my hair, where she gave the Lightest "scalp massage" and I'm not certain that she put any conditioner in. Then when I got into her chair she put it all the way to the ground, so that I could only see from my eyes up in the mirror while she cut my hair. To the point that she was literally on her Knees to do her job. She barely asked what I wanted, then didn't even follow that. I asked for layers to round the shape of my hair out, for it to sit about shoulder length, and my bangs to be cut at cheekbone length. Instead hair was past my shoulders in the front and long and Mullety in the back as if she didn't cut that at all. My "bangs* were down to my mouth and there were Zero discernable layers to be found anywhere. When she asked if I wanted her to do anything else I asked for it to be cut shorter, she trimmed the front 2 pieces a tiny bit and that's it so I decided not to ask for anything else, as she already wasn't doing what I asked. Not once during the total of Thirty minutes that she spent on my hair did she check if the length was ok, what I was thinking about it or anything. She spent most of the time making my hair frizzy AF then fluffing it around than she did taking time to cut my hair. She also did not offer me a mirror at Any point to see the back. I feel like she was distracted the entire time, did not actually want to cut my hair for some reason, and left me looking ridiculous. I walked out of the store with a fluffy, frizzy, mullet and paid almost $100 for it. I absolutely will Not be back and Highly discourage Anyone from going to see Denise. I ended up going to my friend's house afterwards, waking her up, and together we did a Significantly better job than Denise.

I showed a picture and brought in physical hair extensions in the red shade I wanted. I was never told my desired color was not possible. The resulting job left my hair looking similarly close as when I walked in (another shade of brown). I immediately stated to the dresser that the result was far from what I had requested. The owner (Karla) made a comment about how at least they're not having me walk out with horrible hair. That was completely off-putting since I never expect to leave the salon looking horrible nor do I ever spend my money with that outcome as a goal. Karla offered to have me come back in so they could tone it. I would rather take my money to a place that can get close to what I want the first time around, and if not, not being defensive about their own wrong doing. Total service cost before tip was $255, which is a ludicrous amount to charge if you didn't deliver. No discounts were offered which is very upsetting and tells me this business is lacking integrity. There needs to be transparency - If a hair stylist doesn't possess the knowledge or skills to achieve clients desired color, that needs to be stated from the start. I would rather know that up front so that other possible arrangements can be made and if that is not possible then I can go elsewhere. Going to this salon was such a waste of time, money and energy. I believe this will show more truth to anything beyond my words.

I sent a few photos I had found for inspiration and after a brief consultation, she put in some additional highlights added some gorgeous blue and teal tones to my hair. I absolutely love it! There are so many different shades of blue in my hair and I stopped at Ulta on the way home and had like 5 random people tell me they love it and I look like a mermaid. :) Her space is very inviting and comfortable. The staff and students were friendly, and the check-in/check-out process was easy. The tables at the hair rinse/wash stations were a little different than what I expected, but they were actually a nice setup. I had a full highlight and haircut done. The three students who worked on my highlights were all very kind, and the highlights themselves turned out well. However, the entire appointment took almost 6 hours when quoted 3 hours, which felt very long. During my visit, several students were openly talking about how many hours and days they still needed to make up before graduating in September, which felt somewhat unprofessional to hear as a client. The student doing my service seemed somewhat distracted and unsure at times about certain steps, although the work she completed was done well. There were long waits during the lightening and coloring process, and during those waiting periods no one checked in to see if I needed anything. The haircut portion was not completed by the student assigned to me because she was unsure how to do it, so the instructor, Amy, ended up finishing it. After my color was rinsed out, I still noticed hair dye left on my neck when I left. Toward the end of the appointment, the student was informed she had another client scheduled, and she became very flustered. She told me she could not blow dry my hair because she had another client waiting. By that point, I needed to leave soon anyway, but because the appointment had already run so long, I ended up leaving late and was delayed getting to another place I needed to be. I also understand this is a school and students are learning, which I do respect. However, when students are representing the school and working directly with paying members of the public, I feel there should still be professional standards in appearance and conduct. Clothing such as crop tops and athletic-style mini shorts may be fine among peers in a classroom setting, but it did not seem appropriate while providing services to public clients.

The space (formerly the original Cha Cha) is brighter and sleeker than the former hodge-podge of colors, and more improvements are on the way. Return business speaks louder than anything, though, especially when it comes to something as personal as hair (be honest - a bad haircut has ruined your day/week/month at least once). I've been going for years and years, and everyone that I can think of that I've recommended see Jason has kept him - several people I know make sure to schedule an appointment when coming back to Madison for a visit if they no longer live here.
