If you want to breathe a little bit of Moroccan air and feel for a couple of hours you might be in Fez or Marrakesch, head to the new Alhambra Restaurant in Vienna. Though it is in Lugner City and foodies will say "I'm not going to Lugner City to eat", they are also missing out on a fairly authentic Morrocan restaurant. From the mosaic fountain to the Moroccan architecture and design to all the artifacts from Rabat or Casablanca....this restaurant is beautiful. And Moroccan music adds to the atmosphere. The owner of this restaurant will warmly greet you when you climb the stairs to the first floor entrance. But of course you are primarily here for the food and it doesn't disappoint.
The menu is large and noticeably contains many tagine dishes which are expertly prepared. I enjoyed a moist and delicious beef shoulder and plum tagine. My friend had a grilled chicken breast and rice entrée which she really enjoyed. There is a desert offering containing seven different Moroccan sweets. This is wonderful to share and a great way to end the meal on a sweet note.
Okay eating in a shopping mall is not usually my thing but as you will see from my photos, this corner of the mall is totally different from what you would expect. Both enjoy and support this new culinary destination in Vienna.
Tip - There is an atmospheric tented room with sofas and cushions which is perfect for large groups and there is also an outdoor balcony to eat on. read more
