The menu is extensive, providing a wide variety of dishes. We particularly enjoyed the chili chicken appetizer, which was quite spicy. The chicken tikka masala, while tomato-heavy, retained its flavor and authenticity. The dal makhani was excellent however. Service is good and fast. Overall, this restaurant is recommended for its quality and worth a visit.

A really good choice when traveling in Vienna if you get a craving for Indian food. I came here with my brother, his wife and their 2 kids, and the bill, including drinks and dessert, was less than €100. We had enough leftovers to eat the next day. Among all of us, we had the samosas, which were fantastic: large, freshly cooked and excellent flavor. I had the chicken tikka masala, and my brother too, while my sister in law had the muttar paneer, which she absolutely loved. I really liked the chicken tikka as well - it was rich, spicy and abundant. I highly recommend it. We ordered 2 sides of rice and it is a LOT, same with the naan, it was a LOT of naan, both also very good. The presentation of the dishes is cool - I got mine in a small copper pan atop a small candle that kept it warm. I tried a sip of the mango lassi and a bit of the rice pudding. The lassi was tasty but I was disappointed with the rice pudding because even though the flavor was good (cinnamon and cardamom and vanilla, yum!), the texture was not right. It was more a liquid than pudding, I didn't like that. The service was alright - I'm not a good judge because I'm used to US servers who are working for tips, but our server was fine. Make sure you ask for water because you'll need it if you order something spicy, and if you're used to ice water, make sure you specify that too. Our server spoke English, so I didn't struggle at all. I enjoyed the decor. There is a bar and a "quick kebab" takeout side. Writing this review made me hungry for this food !

We ordered the shrimp vindaloo and the paneer masala. Both were everything we needed. We savored with a bottle of Indian wine the owner suggested and of course with garlic nan. While on vacation, we needed "comfort food" instead of Viennese, Danish, and Czech (which had been our travels), and this delivered! A friendly environment, great menu, best Indian I've ever had, good prices, and an over all fabulous evening. We felt right at home. Hint: we like spice! Ordering spicy was enough to burn a bit in a good way but not over the top.

We have chosen Bura (crispy lentil balls served with two different sauces) for a starter and two different types of curries. The curries are made as hot or mild as you like. They always prepare the curries fresh, so you are well advised to take some starters or bring some time. We did not try out the sweets (not the sugary types), but so far all the curries we tried where great-we had Bengal fish, butter chicken, Dhal Makhani and sweet potatoe curry.

The Rani Restaurant is a great northern Indian Restaurant, and very reasonable when you choose to…read morego to Rani weekdays during lunch time, since the soup and the rice are included in the already very reasonable Chicken Curry deal for 7.50 Euros. The portion is big for lunch menu standards and the meal also features a yogurt sauce and sweet polenta. By the way the soup, at least on my visit, was a lentil soup, but I guess the Rani varies with the soup. There are also other lunch offers which are reasonable. As for the hotness of the Chicken Curry I would say it's all relative, but since I don't like hot dishes, the degree of hotness of the Chicken Curry at Rani is in the lower midrange. I had spicier Chicken Curries but also milder ones. So if you want to have it real hot, you better go for another meal, but don't expect anything close of a Korma or something, as this Chicken Curry is somewhat spicy, as it is supposed to be. But again as a person who don't like hot stuff too much, in terms of hotness I found Rani's Chicken Curry definitely bearable and delicious in a slightly hot way. Inside the Rani the interior is quite impressive, featuring a huge 'golden' elephant as well as many nice pictures in Indian folklore style supported by relaxing Indian instrumental music. The staff is friendly and willing to help and the ambience as well as the composition of colors is very well done and stylish. From Vienna with love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann

There was no wait when we arrived (on a Sunday evening, I think). They were doing a good business and several tables were occupied. I think we ordered one dish apiece here plus naan. The others liked their food too. Prices seemed fairly reasonable. Service was good. I don't really recall any major negatives about the dinner. It was later in our trip and I was probably a bit tired and didn't make extensive notes, but I'd consider dinner here again if I returned to Vienna.

The unique feature here is that they serve dishes with not too much chilly heat but offer three spicy condiments that allow you add all the heat you will need. One of Vienna's best Indian restaurants lies in the charming Spittelberg neighborhood of Vienna. It…read moreis called Zum Moghulhof. This is a popular eatery with the locals but many people also come from across Vienna to eat here. It is very attractive on the inside with many Indian artifacts and paintings. But of course it's the food that draws the crowds. What I like about Zum Moghulhof is that they serve Thali platters - in fact four different ones. Too few western restaurants serve Thali but they are a tasty Indian adventurous meal - yes you never know what exactly will be on a Thali platter. I ordered the mixed meat & vegetable one, and very much enjoyed the various Indian treats. Their condiment offerings which include a mango chutney and a spicy red sauce add to the flavors. One small suggestion concerning the condiments - they should always be refilled for each dining party. I don't like to find table condiments or relishes with only a little left. All in all though, I can see no reason why Zum Moghulhof won't continue to attract many diners to come through its doors and dine like a Moghul in Vienna!

Once my boyfriend and I ordered a plate for 2 which easily would have been enough for 4 people, but they offered to pack the rest for takeaway for another 1,5-2 euros, which I found only fair, since the food was absolutely enough for another meal at home. The menu is a bit unreadable, since it is hand-written or at least supposed to look like that - and especially in the darkish lighting what they have you might want to try out different angles in oder to read your menu ;) The male waiter has his own specific humour - he might seem a bit scary but he is actually a very funny guy. Once there was a small boy with his parents at the table next to mine, and the waiter insisted that the boy has to shake hands with him (and the boy seemed really scared!) but once he took the handshake... he realised that the waiter had just wanted to secretly give him a few candies! :)
