Ate dinner here sitting outside. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced by Viennese standards. The unique feature here is that they serve dishes with not too much chilly heat but offer three spicy condiments that allow you add all the heat you will need. Food was absolutely delicious and generous quantities. Dinner for two with beer and gin and tonics came to just under €50 which I was happy with. I ate too much of course and had fun chatting with two groups from England at tables next to us. We will return here again I'm sure. On a side note I left my hat in error. One of Vienna's best Indian restaurants lies in the charming Spittelberg neighborhood of Vienna. It is called Zum Moghulhof. This is a popular eatery with the locals but many people also come from across Vienna to eat here. It is very attractive on the inside with many Indian artifacts and paintings. But of course it's the food that draws the crowds. What I like about Zum Moghulhof is that they serve Thali platters - in fact four different ones. Too few western restaurants serve Thali but they are a tasty Indian adventurous meal - yes you never know what exactly will be on a Thali platter. I ordered the mixed meat & vegetable one, and very much enjoyed the various Indian treats. Their condiment offerings which include a mango chutney and a spicy red sauce add to the flavors. One small suggestion concerning the condiments - they should always be refilled for each dining party. I don't like to find table condiments or relishes with only a little left. All in all though, I can see no reason why Zum Moghulhof won't continue to attract many diners to come through its doors and dine like a Moghul in Vienna! read more

I went here with a friend and we ordered a samosa, garlic naan, two indian beers, and two Thali/Indische platters for a total bill of around 45 euros. It was plenty of food for 2! All of the food was very good. The naan came with 3 sauces on the side, 2 of which were very spicy. We went on a Thursday around 6:30 pm and the restaurant was almost empty! Service was fast and friendly. If you are looking for Indian food, I would definitely give this a try. read more

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had, and I only had to go all the way to Austria to find it. My wife and I needed a break from all the fried meat, so what better thing to get than a light, healthy, Indian food dinner. Right? Well, this won't be that "light" but it will be amazing. It was also not that busy on a Saturday night, we were able to walk right in. Loved the plate warmers that they have. You're plate will be nice and toasty for putting all your delicious Indian delicacies on. Confusing service. All the food is "white people" bland and they don't even ask how you want it. The rice was greasy and undercooked. Really poor wine selection. And they played a couple of dirty tricks on us. My husband ordered garlic naan and they brought pretty bland naan at the beginning of the meal; then they brought more much later in the meal and pretended they didn't understand that he'd only made one order. You guessed it; they charged us for both when we got the bill. And they added a "service charge" for bringing chutney to the table, but never asked if we wanted it (also not very good). They extra charges only amounted to a few euros, but I didn't tip. Bad move on their part: my tip would have been bigger than the overcharge. And later that night I felt like I'd gotten MSG poisoning. Skip this place. Tandoor across the street has higher ratings and it deserves them. read more

My fiancé and I came here one summer evening last year and sat outside, and between the weather being perfect and the waitress being friendly (she complimented my knitting), it was a very nice experience. When I asked for tap water in addition to my mango lassi, she brought a large carafe of ice cold water, and I knew this place was going to be dear to me henceforth. This is, without a doubt, the best Indian food in Vienna. I absolutely adore it, and each visit is a special treat. It can fill up on the weekends, though, so I'd make a reservation for a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening, unless you get there before 18:30-19:00. (I tend to err on the side of caution and make reservations everywhere I go, especially to make sure I get a seat in the non-smoking section. This place has a smoking section.) Zum Moghulhof is super vegetarian-friendly and offers almost all of its dishes with paneer instead of meat. The mango lassi is the best I've had, ever (they put almond slices in it!) Their garlic naan is great, and my absolute favorite dish is the Murgh Markhani (available with paneer instead of chicken) - the chicken is SO tender and the curry is creamy with tomato sauce, but not TOO creamy. I can't believe it took me so long before trying this very good Indian restaurant on the Burggasse! The decor is a bit heavy and full of golden furnitures, but otherwise i have absolutely nothing negative to about about this restaurant. The food was very, very good, full of those Indian flavors (and smells!) I discovered on a trip there. The menu is riched and with plenty of choices between all kind of meat/fish/vegetarian dishes.The different platters also offers a nice alternative to the most curious/hungry of you! Thumbs up for the tandoori dishes, the chicken as well as the shrimps dishes were heavenly spiced and cooked to perfection. Plus, the staff is very kind and welcoming: we had a fantastic evening! I can only agree with other yelpers regarding the waiters. They were not exactly unfriendly or rude, but they totally seemed like they would rather be somewhere else. It also seemed to me a bit chaotic that each waiter had a different purpose - one took my order, another one brought my drink, then another one brought the food and then I paid to the same waiter who took my order. I kind of understand that perhaps it is easier for them to work like this, but it made me feel confused when I wanted to order something more - I was not sure whom should I ask. On the other hand, I was there a while ago and only once so maybe that was an exception. Otherwise the food was OK, prices were OK as well, and the interior was nice - I just love it when you enter Indian restaurants and feel like in another world. The best Indian food I have ever had!!! I have eaten Indian food about 50 times in my life and this place really stands out! The chicken with yoghurt and tomato sauce was my favorite. Also, the naan and palak paneer (cheese in spinach sauce) and the raita yoghurt sauce were all wonderful. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Very good food and very reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Had the Paneer Pakora with a spicy paste and then the Tava Lamb with nan. Washed down with a couple of Cobras for less than €30. Only criticism - as so often in Indian restaurants the food comes too quickly - starter within 3 minutes and main course immediately afterwards. Good if you're in a hurry but not if you're not. However no pressure to leave when food is finished. One other plus - next door's Wifi (moebel) has no password and has a good signal if you sit near the door! read more

Overall, a very pleasant experience. We got to Indian restaurants often, and this one is definitely among the top tier for us. My wife and I ordered a combined dinner for 2, which the waiter assured us was one of their best-sellers. It included two soups (very good), a platter containing some butter chicken, beef, and vegetables, as well as a few pieces of tandoori chicken and some salad. We also received two naans. We asked for the food to be spicy, which it was (not so spicy that you could not eat it, but just about, which we loved). We ended up ordering additional rice and naans to go with all of the meat, but the total quantity of the food was more than enough for 2 people. And the food itself was great! The staff were nice and prompt, and spoke English well. The service was very fast (the place was about half-full), which was excellent for us since we were in a bit of a hurry. The decor and overall atmosphere of the place is quite impressive, and does a good job of transporting you into an Indian setting. Paintings of historical Indian figures line the walls, and the furniture and table-settings were clean and sombre, while retaining a particular charm. The restaurant is very close to the Volkstheater metro stop, in an area of Vienna that is very lively (and safe). read more

Zum Moghulhof was an amazing experience for my family, including daughters who are very picky! Other than curry dishes, we haven't eaten much authentic Indian food. The service was exceptional; they helped us order dishes, according to our likes/dislikes. The appetizers were delicious and the entrees were even better. We ordered Palak Paneer (spinach with cottage cheese), Butter Paneer/Paneer Makhani (cottage cheese with tomato sauce), Chicken Curry, and Bhuna Lamb (lamb with gravy). The garlic bread for dipping (Nan Bread?) was warm and delicious. We had more than enough food for four people--left overs for tomorrow!
