Disappointing Experience Despite Their Effort to Make It Right My regular cleaning team had to cancel at the last minute due to a sick child, and with a huge party at my home just three days away, I was scrambling to find someone who could clean on short notice. Alf's Magic Maids had great reviews and surprisingly had availability, so I was hopeful. A team of two arrived an hour late due to traffic, which I understand, although I had to text to find out where they were. I showed them the areas to be cleaned and specifically requested that the windowsills be dusted because of my allergies. They finished in about 2.5 hours, considerably faster than my regular team. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that the kitchen counters hadn't been wiped down, there was soap grime under the dispenser, the windowsills were still extremely dusty, and the TV console hadn't been dusted. There were also streaks on surfaces, spots on mirrors, and debris left on the floors because they appeared to have mopped without sweeping or vacuuming first. I immediately sent photos to the person coordinating the service. He was very apologetic and offered to send someone back, which I appreciated. However, with my party approaching, having to document everything and arrange a re-clean was incredibly frustrating. The same team returned the next day and asked me to point out what they had missed. I found this uncomfortable, especially when the team leader repeatedly responded with comments like, "It must have been dark" and "We swept, so I'm not sure why it still looks like that." I wasn't looking to criticize anyone; I simply expected the service I paid for to be done thoroughly. For context, our home is generally well maintained, with monthly deep cleanings and upkeep in between. After a year of chemotherapy, I also don't always have the energy to do everything myself, which makes being able to rely on a cleaning service especially important to me. The second cleaning was much better, and I'm grateful that management responded and sent the team back. However, even then, certain items weren't moved, and the floor under the dining table was still not swept. I'm giving two stars rather than one because management was apologetic and made an effort to address the problem. That said, the lack of attention to detail and the uncomfortable experience of having to point out so many missed areas left me disappointed. I understand mistakes happen, but I expected a more thorough cleaning, especially after communicating my priorities upfront. Less important, but still valid, I was told I would receive a $20 discount, but didn't. I hope they use this feedback to improve their quality control, because the responsiveness was appreciated, but the cleaning itself fell short of expectations. read more

Elise and Judy are wonderful cleaners. They completed a full deep cleaning of my floors and other parts of the house, and everything was exceptionally well done. The house had been quite dirty, including areas behind furniture, and they moved everything as needed to ensure a thorough cleaning of the floors and hidden spaces. They were very accommodating, polite, and helpful throughout the entire process, and their customer service was truly outstanding. Anything I asked them to do, they did with a smile. They even cleaned the insides of closets as part of the deep cleaning--something I didn't even realize was included. There were also a few tasks that were technically outside the scope of the deep cleaning, such as the inside of a very dirty TV cabinet, and they handled those requests without any complaint at all. Elise and Judy are a fantastic team who genuinely focus on making sure the customer is happy. I'm so glad they deep cleaned my house, and thanks to their excellent work, they convinced me to continue using Alf's Cleaning Services. ADDED: Second cleaning service for garage We had a rat infestation in our garage a while back, and it left the space in terrible shape--droppings on the floor, shelves, and clutter everywhere. Elise and Judy did an absolutely incredible job bringing the garage back to life. They were extremely kind and respectful throughout the entire process, asking what needed to be cleaned in each section and making sure they understood exactly what I wanted. When I requested some extra wiping on a few storage containers, they went above and beyond and cleaned all the remaining containers and furniture as well. The garage is now sparkling and hasn't been this clean in at least a decade. They also carefully moved boxes and appliances that couldn't get wet, making sure nothing was damaged while they washed down the garage. What I appreciated most was how understanding and nonjudgmental they were about the state of the space. This was a heavy-duty job, and they handled it with professionalism, care, and a great attitude. They even asked how I wanted everything arranged once they finished. The orocess to book them was thorough, but maybe a little complex (involved Yelp app, text, email and a phone call) but they are responsive and good communicators. The team of two showed up close to on time (my experience is that cleaning services do not show up on the minute). 10:20 for a 10am window is as good as I've seen - something to keep in mind when you're comparing. The pair of cleaners brought their own gear and were professional in their approach. The results are excellent - as clean as it's gonna get - and now I can call the carpet cleaners. We used Alfs Magic Maid for our business in San Jose but didn't know they also serviced Gilroy. Let me tell you, A MILLION times more clean and thorough then any of the cleanings from other companies we've had in the past. The girls who came were so friendly and were very attentive and cleaned everything that I mentioned/pointed out with no hesitation. I believe one of their names was Joseline. I will make sure to request her every time! The pricing was comparable to all the other cleaners we've used but their work & service surpassed the others BY FAR. With others, I would always have to ask them to go back and clean certain areas. With Alf Magic Maids, I found myself saying "wow they even cleaned that!" They moved all our furniture to get every area whereas with other cleaners we've hired, we had to ask them to do this and they didn't seem happy to. My place was in need of a deep cleaning, and found Alf's through Yelp. Communication was really prompt within the app, and easy to schedule an appointment. Though I'm sure some appreciate the option to tip via credit card on the site, for me personally, I'd rather tip after seeing the results, plus giving it to the employee in person. I booked a deep clean and carpet cleaning, and the cleaning duo came promptly at the beginning of the hour window. They finished in about 2 hours (2 bedroom/2 bathroom) and I was impressed with how they neatly organized my things. I do think some details were missed in the process, but both were very friendly. I was a little confused as to when the carpet cleaning was supposed to happen, and about an hour and half later, he arrived. I would note this in the future so you can allot the time to be home, as I thought it would be done back to back. The carpet cleaning was pretty quick, though doing this in the rainy winter season and broken heater upstairs wasn't the best idea as it took quite some time to fully dry.
