Every time I've come, the locker room has been clean. You bring your own lock but sometimes, if I'm not carrying much, I'll just have my stuff on the floor with me. The treadmills are decent. There area few older ones I prefer not using, but in the early evening, it's a hit or miss, because they get pretty filled up. Weight training is great. They have a few locations on the floor for Olympic bar work. I was able to perform my pyramids sets with an ease of adding and removing weights. During peak time, however, it can be difficult finding a spot. You might find yourself having to wait and adjust your workout due to what's available. All in all, the gym fits my needs and I will look into a possible membership. I like that they're 24 hours. I have a current rotator cuff injury, so I will be waiting until I get the go ahead, to begin my future modified workouts.

I already had some experience with exercise and she had no formal training and also has mild cerebral palsy so she was initially wary of working out with a trainer as she thought some of the movements would be too difficult. We were both impressed with Al. He managed to devise routines that would challenge both of us equally while modifying some of the exercises to suit her abilities. I couldn't believe how good a workout we were able to get during a 30 minute class. The pace and choice of exercises were enough to keep us just outside of our comfort zones but not uncomfortably out of breath; and by the end of every lesson we were soaked! Both of us showed results -- I have greater muscle tone and my posture has changed for the better. Her balance has improved remarkably and she can more easily handle obstacles such as stairs and uneven sidewalks at higher walking speeds, her balance has improved as well. It was also more fun for her than standard physical therapy. Al himself is a personable, knowledgeable, and accomplished instructor. He will keep you moving without resorting to drill-instructor tactics and always has something interesting to say. I definitely recommend Bodyware Pelham!

The air conditioning was broken for months this past summer -- forcing members, many of whom are minorities, to work out in unsafe heat. The facility is filthy, machines are constantly broken, and the saunas and pool were actually shut down by the health commissioner (yes, you read that right). The leg press has been broken for months, weights are scattered everywhere, and half the benches are ripped apart. The squat rack is always missing plates, and sometimes you can't even find a 10 lb weight. Every machine feels like it's about to fall apart. I tried to stick it out, but you can't even have a decent workout here -- it's impossible to track progress when everything's broken or missing. I finally canceled my membership. This gym is an embarrassment and should be inspected immediately.

I'd run into people I grew up with, friends from high school, people I hadn't seen in years. That part meant a lot to me. Unfortunately, the front desk and management ruined it. First issue: I was pressured and misled into buying personal training I didn't need. Once I signed, the trainer couldn't even work with my schedule. No flexibility, no accountability -- just take the money and move on. Second: clear favoritism by staff. Certain people were allowed to play music out loud, break rules, and do whatever they wanted -- but when others did the same thing, suddenly it was a problem. That inconsistency creates a bad environment fast. Third: amenities constantly unavailable. Even years ago, when it was still XSport Fitness, the pool would be randomly closed. Add in parking issues -- paying for parking on certain days on top of a membership -- and it just felt like nickel-and-diming members. The biggest issue, though, was the front desk culture. Unprofessional, dismissive, and uncomfortable energy. There were maybe one or two decent staff members, but overall it felt like complaints were brushed off and members were made to feel like they were the problem for speaking up. I left, moved to California, and honestly thought about coming back to this gym when I returned -- only to find it shut down entirely. That didn't surprise me. When a business ignores its community and runs a place into the ground, this is usually how it ends. It's bittersweet. I'm sad the neighborhood lost a gym, because the community deserves recreational spaces. But I'm not surprised this one didn't survive. Poor management, poor treatment of members, and bad business decisions eventually catch up. On 1/28/24 I authorized max to charge my card $1,604 for personal training sessions. Everything was actually ok for the first month so when February came around I decided to get a membership for $200 a month for 4-30 min sessions. I thought I could save a few dollars so decided to sign up. I gave Max my credit card and he had said to me that I could actually do 2- 1 hour sessions since I was in pretty good shape. I was ok with that. When I got home I did some calculations and realized it didn't actually make sense to do the membership. So for my following appointment after my session I said " I don't want to do the membership anymore can you please cancel it" and max said " don't worry about it you didn't do the paperwork so you don't have to cancel it" I said ok and I was fine with that. I go do surgery I go back to the gym months later, but before I even go back to the gym I text max over and over for literally weeks saying hey I wanted to finish up my package so I can be done with my sessions. Weeks later max finally send me a text that I had 6-1 hour sessions left because of the membership I had paid for. Great at that point I was only charged $200 for march. I was like great. After that text max goes back into my card and starts charging me a $200 a month fee and I knew nothing about it. I didn't catch it for months because I don't use the card and couldn't understand where the balance was coming from. After I specifically sent this man multiple text messages that I want to finish my sessions and be done he goes behind my back and bills me for a membership . I have since asked max for the paperwork that I signed for this membership but it does not exists. Now I have to take off a whole day from work to go to court to sue this man for my money back. Max Pierre is a thief and he's unprofessional. This man was either late for every session, ended the sessions early or sometimes both, he would be going to answer the phones during my paid sessions, assisting workers with fixing the treadmill, it was always something with him. all while I waited for him on my paid time. Seriously people should stay away from this gym and this man. He can't be trusted. I am going to make it my business to go on every platform I can find to warn people about this man's business practices. Please be careful out here. I am now out of $800 because of this man .and I will now have to lose a day from work to sit in court all day. When these companies ask you to write reviews when you are a new customer don't write them wait a few months to see what kind of business people really operate. FYI I spoke to a trainer that use to work there and he told me that max does this all the time people ask to cancel memberships and he does not do it. Apparently people go on vacation and months later find out this man has been stealing from them.
