Alex did an amazing job on my hair! I wanted face framing and a V shape in the back he did it very well! The staff was very nice and welcoming I will definitely be coming back! read more

I had been going to Alex for about six years and was very disappointed with my most recent haircut. I showed Alex a photo of the style I wanted as a reminder of what he'd done every visit prior...straight across the back for my fine hair. Midway through the cut, he started using thinning scissors. I asked, "what are you doing, Alex?" since I don't allow thinning shears used on my hair because I have fine hair and did not want that done. He responded, "just let me work," and continued while other clients were waiting for him, so I did not escalate the situation. The result was a heavily thinned out in the back that did not match what I requested or the photo I showed. I later asked for a partial refund, but Alex just said "Sorry, next time show me a picture." I replied that I had shown him a picture. Please see the attached photos...the first is what I showed Alex and asked for and the second is what he chose to do. Alex is a talented stylist, but based on this experience I will not be returning. I have known him for years, and I was very disappointed in how this appointment was handled and the result of my haircut. read more

I'm recently retired and living part time in LaJolla. I visited Alex's Salon yesterday for the first time and received a haircut from Alex. The haircut I received may be the best haircut I've ever had. Not only did Alex trim my hair but he shaped my hair to accentuate my face. The man is a true artist. He recommended a product to use in my hair as well to take advantage of the cut. Will definitely wait to get another cut until I return back to LaJolla. read more

Clean! Fresh! Sweet salon for a phenomenal haircut! We complimented the patron before us and told him the haircut Alex gave him looked great. He remarked how pleased he has always been getting his haircut by Alex. For us, it was a ladies cut, and a beautiful one that was so suited. What artistry! When you're a newbie, Alex requires about a five minute consult. You will enjoy your results. We are oldies not newbies so we can also give you this tip. Cash only. read more

Oh my gosh. Five stars? That's just for places on yelp that are great. Alex's Salon deserves six stars because what he can do to someone's hair is beyond extraordinary! I went in with my old dry hair that had been destroyed by a very bad stylist it was fried frizzled. It basically looked like I had stuck my finger in a light socket, and it was just hideous. Albert Einstein's hair looked better than mine. Alex basically told me to sit back and be quiet and let him work his magic and work his magic he did. I wanted to have a certain color and not to have my hair cut and he basically just told me what I needed and when it was done, I just couldn't believe the transformation. My hair looks so silky and youthful, and somehow it looks longer than it did when I came in and he trimmed it a bit! He is worth every penny that he charges and probably a lot more. I had heard from people what a great job Alex did, but it's more than that. The word "great"does not describe it. I wish I had before and after pictures, but regardless the after pictures just show what a miracle he can do with hair. Every one of my friends gushed over my look and had to put their hands in my hair because it just looks that inviting and silky. Alex goes above and beyond to make you look your best---like I said---he deserves six stars not just five. read more

Recently moved to California and was looking for a good haircut. I visited Alex's Salon yesterday and I was very impressed. I arrived a little earlier than my schedule and Alex started to cut me right away. The way he cut my hair was quick and precise. I can tell that he's been cutting hair for along time. I swear he cut, washed, and styled my hair in 15 minutes. It was fast and turned out awesome. I'll definitely be coming back to see Alex soon. Thanks read more

Terrible highlight experience- took 45 minutes minutes to get a partial highlight and a blowout- just to look like I have tiger stripes in my hair. The lady blow dryed my hair with the highlights in the speed up the process. Alex didn't do my hair but he was extremely rude as well. Don't come here and waste your money, will be needing to do my hair again. read more

I've been going to Alex's salon for about 5 years now, and I can honestly say it's the best decision I've made for my hair. After trying out so many other salons in the past that left me disappointed and my hair in worse shape, I finally found Alex, and I haven't looked back since. Alex has a real talent for understanding what his clients want, and he's always consistent in delivering exactly what I'm looking for. My hair has never looked healthier or felt better. His cuts are precise and flattering, and his blowouts are just perfection my hair always feels like it's red-carpet ready when I leave the salon! The atmosphere at the salon is also wonderful; it's warm, welcoming, and professional. If you're tired of leaving salons feeling disappointed, give Alex a try. He's truly a hidden gem, and I can't recommend him enough! I also absolutely love coming here for my eyebrows! The lady who does them is simply amazing she's incredibly kind and makes you feel right at home. Every time, she takes her time to ensure they are perfectly even and just the way I like them. I always leave feeling more confident and knowing my brows look flawless. read more

I'm a hairdresser myself, for 32 years & verrrry picky I needed to get my own hair trimmed and read yelp reviews to choose someone I would be comfortable to trim my hair. I went to Alex and found he is very good and highly recommend him. He has a very unique and different approach to doing Hair and he's very quick at what he does but he was great at listening to my concerns when I wanted him to fine-tune my haircut a little more to my own personal standards as a hairdresser,. He was very patient and a great listener and didn't have an ego at all with me being very detail oriented about exactly how I wanted my haircut. He gave a great blowout to my hair and used a product that I have since bought for myself because it made my hair feel amazing. For the services that I don't do, like Brazilian blowout, I have been referring clients to him to get that service done if they want, with him. He's a very nice person and has lots of experience... Thank you, Alex! read more

I was visiting La Jolla on vacation when I had a hair emergency on a Sunday morning. I was fortunate to reach out to Alex who quickly agreed to meet me at his salon. He was so warm, welcoming, and reassuring, telling me that everything would be fine. And thanks to his skill at his craft, it was! He is clearly passionate about his work and is a wonderful human being as well. I am so grateful for his expertise and kindness. Thank you Alex! read more

I would give Alex's Salon 5 stars for quality work. The young lady hair stylist, is lovely and very talented. But I am baffled as to why I was charged $40 twice for a wash/cut/dry, then next time the owner instructed her to charge $80 for the same thing then two months later $95. The hair cut took about 20 minutes and my hair is short. The website states wash/cut/dry is $85. $95 is just too expensive for a simple cut. Sadly I won't be going back. read more

RUDE. ARROGANT. UNPROFESSIONAL. Alex seemed to be high on drugs. Kept swinging the sharp scissors across my face. Dropped it a few times and nearly cut me twice. He was visibly altered. When I asked him to slow down, he said 'nobody tells me how I should work'! The most uncomfortable haircut of my life. I should have got up and left. read more

Alex is the king of color. Alex has been my stylist for many years now and over time I have seen him bring relief and joy to so, so many clients who came to him to fix what other less-talented colorists had done. I recommend Alex to anyone looking for a stylist but especially to someone with color concerns. Alex is also just a super nice guy. It is important to him that each client is looking their best and happy with his services when they leave his shop. I always feel a little better about life after a visit to Alex' Salon. read more
