This review is long overdue. I've been coming to brow lounge for over a year and a half now and have seen both Sunny and Kelsey, both girls are amazing at what they do and so sweet and personable! Brow lounge really does it right. They always map out your brows for you before they start waxing, talk about what you want, give their professional input about where to take off and where to leave growth, and have you confirm the shape. The wax they use is so gentle on the skin and I've never had irritation from it. I also love their brow products as well! A few months ago I was also able to treat myself to a lash lift and brow lamination and Kelsey gave me the best lift/lamination I've ever had! I've been getting my brows waxed for like 10 years, I have SO MUCH brow hair but every time I get them waxed I feel like they are too thin, and it always makes me not want to get them waxed again for a long time. Darling little upscale brow and lash boutique. I've been here twice now and had my brows shaped by Olivia and Kristl and they are both just fabulous, and keep my brows tamed and on trend. I want to try lash extensions too and consulted with Kelsey who is knowledgeable and very friendly. This place has a very nice feel, it's lively but relaxed and comfortable. Thank you to Kristl at Brow Lounge for always keeping my brows looking "wow!" Brow Lounge is located in a cute little boutique space in LJ Village. While parking can be a challenge during the summer (I usually try to leave 5-10 minutes earlier for my appointment), after Labor Day it usually isn't a problem finding street parking on Silverado. If I arrive early, I usually peruse the items that are available for sale (jewelry, bathing suits, etc.), or relax in Brow Lounge's comfy waiting area. I have been a client at Brow Lounge since the summer of 2014, when I conveniently worked around the corner. Three years later, I'm still a client, and it's so good that I make the drive! While most of my appointments have been with Kristl, I have also had a couple appointments with Annie. Both ladies are great at what they do. My appointments have always been on time, and when traffic going into LJ has caused me to be late, Brow Lounge has been flexible and understanding. Kristl is friendly and easy to talk to, to the point that when I sit down for my brow shaping, we start talking, and suddenly we're done. The service itself is quick, easy, and (relatively) painless. My brows are at their thickest and fullest, and Kristl makes sure that they stay that way, while still cleaning up my shape and arch. Nearly $50 for a brow wax and a pissy receptionist? Methinks certainly not. I guess it didn't get off to a good start. I dropped in for a walk in appointment and they were able to see me in 20 minutes. When I came back the blond receptionist gave me a long waiver form to fill out asking for practically every personal detail bar my SSN. For a brow wax? I filled in my name and signature and passed the clipboard back to the receptionist, who instantly gave it back wanting "ALL" of the info on the sheet. I politely declined. She made a face and began to insist. Again, I politely declined, again she insisted, again I said I would rather not. It got silly. Receptionist: "But what if we need to contact you?" Me: "Well, I'm right here in front of you." Receptionist "No, I mean in the future, when you make a phone in appointment." Me (thinking, what future?): "Well, we'll cross that bridge if we come it. I'm here now; I'll give you my number in the future if I should call in." I realize she was just doing her job, but the sour look on her face throughout the whole exchange was unnecessary. I don't want to give out my number, email, address, twitter, FB, etc. to anyone and everyone who asks, and especially not for a brow wax. Eventually, I was ushered in to the lounge area by my "brow specialist." She seemed sweet enough, offering me a drink as I sank back into the comfy brow chair. Things were looking up. The brow specialist took a look at my brows, which I like to keep natural, but clean and shaped. Apparently I'd plucked a couple of hairs (we're talking about 3 or 4 - I've since grown them out and counted) from the wrong place on my underside arch. Because of this she told me she couldn't shape my brows and that I had to come back another time for the full service. It felt like an up-sell and it turned out to be the first of many. From there on in, everything I asked about she had a product for, and almost every other comment involved her trying to sell it to me. I wouldn't have minded getting up-sold on one or two items, but it was beyond. Again, I realize she was just doing her job, but I could tell she wasn't comfortable doing it. The whole thing felt awkward for both of us. In the end up she did a clean enough wax job. Nothing special. No big transformation, just the same kind of wax I'd get for $8 at my local nail salon. When she was done she started to tell me about a brow pencil (for my dense, dark brows?). I'd never tried one before so she offered to pencil my brows in for me. As she was penciling them in, I finally got a close up of her brows. They looked like two dark stretch-limousines about to collide right over her third eye. That was the final straw. With only one brow done, I stopped her, as she was right in the middle of trying to sell me the brow pencil for nearly $30. I politely took my leave and went to pay. She followed me to the checkout and tried to sell me some brow gel. Again, I declined with an awkward smile. The lemon faced receptionist asked for $40 for the pleasure the whole experience. I asked her what a good tip would be. "20% is $8," she replied. I handed over a $50 bill. "Do you want your change?" Enough was enough. I took my $2 change on principal and left, with my sole dark penciled eyebrow careering like an out of control limousine across my left side forehead, bold, brash, yet lonely. I had this place bookmarked on Yelp since 2009 so when I saw that there was a Groupon out, I immediately jumped on the deal. I made my appointment for the weekend before Thanksgiving so that I would have nice pretty brows for the holiday. Setting an appointment was easy. I called and got the exact time I wanted and the person that answered the phone had good customer service skills. I didn't request anyone specific for my brow appointment and got Annie. I saw a few good reviews about her here so I figured I'd be fine. The Brow Lounge is located in a cute shopping area of La Jolla so that was great. The area where the reception desk/waiting area is cozy and seems nice but the area where the brows are done seemed a little cold and bare. The person in charge of my brows that day, Annie, was a bit harsh when examining my brows. I knew I had over tweezed but trust me I still had plenty of eye brows left. She gave me one of those tisk tisk looks and said that I had over tweezed and needed to grow my brows back in. I had been trying to do this for awhile but it's not easy having random eyebrow hairs all over the place and still be presentable out in public. I mentioned to her that there was a part of my brows that wasn't growing in and she quickly dismissed that by saying that the part I was referring to is actually the easiest part of the brow to grow back in. Hello! These are my brows, don't you think I know them better than you do? The actual waxing and tweezing part was a bit rough and painful. She was even rough when brushing my brows. My brows are unruly but she seriously needed to ease up! She did a decent job shaping my brows but ended up drawing really big dark brows on me with brow powder. Plus I think I was allergic to the cream they put on your skin after waxing so I walked out of there with big black brows surrounded by puffy red skin. I'm surprised no one laughed at me on the way to my car. At the end of the session, she walked me to the reception area and as she walked away she mumbled that I should come back for upkeep or not. That's probably not the best way to take advantage of a Groupon for that salon. Groupons are supposed to help get you more new returning customers so maybe you shouldn't do a bad job and then not welcome your customer back. read more

I have been coming to Brow Lounge for a couple of years and recently got an email about a promotion they were running for a discount on brow shaping. I called in to book my appointment and specifically said I was coming in for the promotion. When it came time to pay I was told the promotion was not running yet and I couldn't get the discount. Obviously the person I booked with should have booked me on a date applicable for the promo, and when they didn't honor the discount at the register I was disappointed, seeing as I've always had good customer service there in the past. read more

I LOVE brow lounge!! Since the beginning I've always gone to Kristl, and she's seriously a magic worker. Plus she's one of the owners as well so her customer service is always top notch. As for brows, I'm one of those lucky few with thin and semi-patchy ones, and she's been incredible in both shaping them into something presentable and giving me advice on how to grow them out. I really appreciate her intuition for what shape would best suit your face. Some tips. 1. It's very pricey. $40 for a brow shaping but sign up for the preferred browser program (pay for 5 at once, $35 each instead) if you plan on returning. 2. It gets better each time. The first time I went in, I came out unsure but as I followed her advice on growing, I gave her more to work with and the results just kept getting better. Don't go in there with unrealistic expectations for Brooke Shields eyebrows, no one can grow hair for you. 3. Products: They sell the brow kits that they will use on you, but Sephora sells it for cheaper. 1 STAR OFF however bcus I'm the type that wants EVERY last outlier hair gone, and though Kristl always creates a nice shape, there are usually alot of tiny strays I have to go home and pluck myself. Oooo... I got a first! Brow Loung is a bit pricey, but SO worth it. I opted for the package deal of brow waxes, which gives you a bit of a discount. ($35 brow wax). Everyone here is awesome, and they really take their time crafting your brows to look just right. From massaging in a bit of brow prep, to measuring out the correct points for the perfect brow, to the most gentle wax I've ever experienced - this place rocks! They even teach you how to groom your brows, and how to use brow powder to fill in for imperfections. It's amazing how a great wax, a little brow brush, and some powder help to make your face beautiful and gorgeous! They do a lot of other things, too: Facials, make-up, all kinds of waxing, and plenty of great products to choose from. I'd like to expand and try some of their other services, but for now, I won't go anywhere else for my brows. read more
