Beautiful vineyard on the outskirts of Hastings. We parked there and did the Hastings 10 mile bike trail so we could enjoy a glass of wine after our ride. With this having been my first time there, I chose the $20 tasting. For that cost you get generous pours of 12 different wines. I chose bottles of my favs which included one white and 3 reds. Staff was excellent. There are so many seating options. We chose an outdoor table with umbrella in the vineyard. So pretty. Great experience! read more

Alexis Bailly is such a fun, easy winery to visit, especially being so close to the cities. The setting is really beautiful and peaceful, perfect for a slow afternoon. There are a few different areas to sit and hang out, plus tables spread throughout the property. It's also dog friendly, which is a big plus. The wines are solid, and it's fun to try a variety, especially some of their more unique options. The staff was really helpful in making suggestions also and knew the history of the vineyard which was cool to learn more about. The only thing I felt was missing was more food. They do have a small section where you can grab items to build your own charcuterie board, but I'd love to see a few more food options added. read more

If you have a bday party or bachelorette party i do not recommend having a noticeable gear, decor or vehicle and make sure to call ahead as they are lowkey and technically do not allow. Alexis Bailey Vineyard was a delightful way to spend the afternoon. The setting was beautiful and an added bonus was a surprise visit from a neighbor's horse that had gotten free of it's tether and wandered over. How fun to view the glory of this free horse who came to show us its beauty. The owner was quickly called and she treated us to some equine background. The 5 year old horse named 'Sage' was a wild mustang from Montana and was slowly getting 'handled'...meaning it hadn't been ridden yet but would be pretty soon. If you're interested in getting away from the city for a little bit, consider Alexis Bailly for a glass of wine and enjoy the vineyard. They have the option to make reservations online but we ended up just walking in and they were able to accommodate us on the patio. Due to the pandemic, they are limiting people inside. The gift shop is open by request but you can order a glass of wine or buy a bottle right outside the front door. They are also doing curb side pick up and have picnic boxes available for purchase to go along with your wine. The wine overall is pretty good. I went with a dry white while my fiance tried the port and we both enjoyed our selections. The wine tastings are on hold for now but I am excited to return once they can bring that back to try more! Staff does their best to hinder the ambiance. I have been here many times and every single time I have witnessed the employee named TOM berating customers, whether it is for moving a chair, or being rude to customers while waiting, or in general being disrespectful to customers for no reason. The rest of the staff is always apologizing for TOMS crazed hangover behavior. Never has there been a time I was there and TOM was not in an incident with at customer, it is out of control and dangerous to have this person berating customers, especially the elderly that just want to relax and sip a glass of wine. His demeanor overruns the whole outside area. That is also reflected inside everytime I try to order a bottle of wine from the desk and keep being interrupted by the girl behind the desk. It is impossible to have a conversation with another staff member without her interrupting or correcting another staff member. Staff needs to be less controlling and let things happen. read more

Pack yourself up some snacks and get yourself a nice bottle of the voyager--(it was my favorite) you can really taste the depth of this wine it was the most full bodied that they offer other than dessert wines. If you like a very light drinkable perhaps have the country red or white. You need some special occasion wine you should pick up a bottle of the chocolate kiss---it is just like liquid chocolate and a little goes a really long way but oh--how delightful. This was a lovely unexpected day trip. The land is laid out really well. You can grab a flight (or a glass or bottle if you prefer) and choose from a variety of seating options. The very first Minnesota winery I ever toured way back when. After several years away I was fortunate enough to be in the area and decided to swing in to have a new look. Its still in the same tucked away spot on a gravel road just off of Highway 61 sough of Hastings. Very nice refurbished building (with a spacious addition since my last visit). Lots of space inside for tastings. They even moved the bathroom from its old space to a more accessible location. The wines are great. Always have been. The stars are the Voyageur (a red) and the Seyval Blanc. You can sample 7 wines for $10 so have at it. They put out a really quality product. Their price per bottle is higher than other places but its worth it. There are lots of tables and other seating areas outside (including a couple of really nice bocce courts) and some interesting art pieces sprinkled throughout the property. I've been to a lot of wineries and overall this is probably the best combination of wine and atmosphere there is here in the state. Get a couple of bottles and add your favorite food and you could spend a couple of hours here easily. If you have been putting it off you should drop in soon. read more

Alexis Bailly is located in Hastings and even though we often drive by the country road that takes us here, we calculated that it had been likely 8 years since our last stop here! There are so many great wineries and breweries to visit in Minnesota that's my excuse for not coming back sooner! Since we've been here, they've added an addition on to the tasting room that has bottles of wine for sale, and a small cooler of cheeses to purchase. As well, the addition includes a much nicer bathroom (from my recollection of its location back in the day). They have a decent deck and tables out in the yard, and long picnic tables located next to the bocce ball court. Since we've done the tasting a few times we opted for just going for a glass of wine and sitting out in the early spring sun. I had a glass of golden gris [La Crescent (90%) and Frontenac Gris (10%).] It was a lovely refreshing, sweet (but not too sweet), white wine on a gorgeous day. They have some random art in the fields surrounding the winery and it is a really peaceful place to be. It is even more gorgeous when the leaves all fill-in and the vines are full and the fruit in full bloom. I noticed the deck and picnic tables could use a good sanding down and staining. I know it is early in the season when coming out of winter, everything tends to look a little beat up, but they have seen better days. read more

Alexis Bailly is Minnesota's first winery, so it was very fitting that it was also my first Minnesota winery. The winery definitely did not disappoint, especially with their red wines. I had some terrific and unique wines here that I really enjoyed. It is definitely worth the 30 minute trek to get here. I always like to try everything in case there's something new to like, so I did a tasting of all 12. I liked everything I tried, although I definitely found some that stood out more than others. I'm more of a red wine fan, so I liked their reds a little more than the whites. The Voyageur was definitely fantastic and a little unique - the finish was smooth and dry on it. The GSM was also another favorite (and what I took home with me), with a great fruitiness and ultra smooth finish. I'm not a huge fan of sweet ports normally, but the Chocolate Reserve was crazy good and definitely dangerous because it did not feel alcoholic. We came on a Saturday when it was just starting to pick up. Still, service was great and Kevin, in particular, was so knowledgeable and passionate about wine. We also got to meet Nan, the winemaker, when we purchased our bottle. The tasting all 12 wines is definitely the way to go, but I will caution you that the pours are 1 oz on the regular wines and a half oz pour on the ports. Pace yourself if you're not sharing with a friend. As for the atmosphere, it's great. The bar area is a little small, but they have a good amount of tables inside. For warmer days, they have a patio outside and some picnic tables around. I can't wait to go sit out there when it gets a little warmer. Overall, great experience and some dang good wine. I will definitely be back sometime. read more

The grounds are beautiful, the staff is friendly and welcoming, the room is everything it should be - wood, bar, tables, casks, comfy and casual. I don't drink a lot of wine but the wine tasting makes all of the wines taste great. The progression that you drink them in changes the flavor. Try a glass of the one you liked before you buy a full bottle. It will not taste the same as when you had the taste. The store is small but has all the wines and a small selection of other related items. Dogs are allowed on the grounds. In fact, they actually have events for dogs. Um, ok, for patrons to all bring dogs while enjoying their wine. During the summer, there is live outdoor music on Sundays. A relaxed, enjoyable place filled with welcoming people. They stopped bottling my favorite, Isis, a sweet iced wine. But the place is worth the trip. I always leave feeling refreshed. read more

The grounds are lovely. So many places to have a picnic or just sit and have a glass of wine! The only thing is that I'm not used to having to pay for wine tastings. It's a common practice in Napa & Sonoma in California, but in other areas, tastings are free. Whenever tastings are free, I buy a bottle of wine... when they aren't... I don't. The service was just OK. There was some live music going on, so it was difficult to hear what the person behind the counter was saying. I kept a open mind about the wines in Minnesota, but they just aren't my taste and I did not factor that into my review, it's based on the experience. What? Decent wine in Minnesota? I'm not joking. There are a lot of sweet (and I don't mean good) wines in the midwest and few have yet to come up with a dry, full red that pleases me. Until Alexis Bailey! We have gone 3 times and done the tasting, its that good. it runs at $5 and you can try all 8. The dessert wines are extra, but worth it at least once. This place is so cozy- cabiny, warm. I could live here. Close enough to the cities its not a huge commitment, but far enough away it feels like a treat. For two months in the summer they have Sunday afternoon jazz and Sangria- its like time traveling. Last fall, when they were done harvesting their grapes, they gave out bags and shears and said we could take as many grapes home as we wanted. I made grape jam. They have a little shop with cheeses, crackers, olives, etc. for snacking and pairing. You can just wander the grounds with your glass of wine, exploring, lounging, playing bocce ball. This place is the vacation you need for an afternoon. read more

For many years I'd enjoyed this place, until yesterday.... A staff member refused us service because six of us showed up in a limo to celebrate a special day. I'm still confused about why it matters that we showed up in one car instead of two. They ask for the courtesy of being notified in advance for parties of 8 or more, which I understand. I've noticied in my last few visits that charm & friendliness has started to wane, but the rudeness with which we were treated was a completely different level. I'm giving Alexis Bailly 3 stars by averaging the experience (4 stars) and the wine (2 stars). Aleis Bailly has shirts that read "Where grapes can suffer." In fact, only 1 of their grape varities can be left out untouched during the winter without dying. Given the extremely short Minnesota growing season, they make pretty good wines but you aren't going to mistake them for a $40 cab from California or France. Their best wines are probably the desert wines, so if you like ice wine or port you might love their wines. All that said, I went to the Spring Festival with my girlfriend and some friends the other weekend and it was a blast. For $10 we got to try 7 wines and keep the etched glass we tasted from. (During a normal weekend you can try wine for $5 but have to buy the glass separately. The weather was gorgeous, the grounds were full of people picnicking, playing with dogs and drinking wine. It was a little slice of wine country only 20 miles south of the Twin Cities. I think we'll be heading back once a year or so to try the new wines and enjoy beautiful grounds. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised when we went to a wine tasting here. We went for a special tasting that including food pairings with seven of their wines. Not only were the wines much better than I anticipated, the food pairing choices were innovative and as enjoyable as the wines themselves! My favorite had to have been the teardrop peppers that were paired with their Voyager red wine. Absolutely wonderful! Also worth a mention is the Chocolate Reserve port. Normally, I am a purist with my wines and prefer that the flavor come from the grapes themselves or the aging process, however, this wine has a dark chocolate extract that has been added and I am now willing to make an exception. This was a wonderful wine and one that I would recommend. I can't wait to bring this out at my next dinner party and show it off. The only snag we ran into was with the pricing. The website clearly stated the tasting was $10 (no reservations required), but when we arrived we were charged $12. When we brought it to their attention instead of offering to adjust the price, or at least apologizing for the error, the woman behind the counter (Joan) was just plain rude. Considering that the rest of the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable we decided to just chalk it up to this person must be having a bad day. The grounds at this vineyard are also lovely. They have an enormous arbor covering a couple of bocce ball pits and a variety of tables and benches to accommodate those that want to take advantage of the beautiful weather while enjoying their wine. All in all I would highly recommend going for a tasting, you won't be disappointed. read more

But these hearty grapes make drinkable wine that you can enjoy on their beautiful grounds. My favorite wine happened to be the one sourced entirely from the north fork of long island but hey, who's comparing?
