The frame was bent and cracked after I had to force the door open (long story involving my dogs locking themselves in with my phone and laptop ). I sent him photos, and he quickly quoted a fair fixed price. He showed up on time, worked efficiently, and fixed everything perfectly - realigned the frame, patched the drywall, sanded, and painted so it looks brand new. I'm Alexi's newest, extremely satisfied customer here in Daybreak/SoJo/Herriman! We recently moved into a new rental home with no door between the Main BR and the attached en-suite. We received approval to install a "barn door" with the caveat it could not be a DIY job. I found a "non-barn look" door with a hidden track, now I needed someone with excellent reviews + demonstrated skill. My search led me to Alexi, whose large number of 5 star reviews from customers detailing his work ethic, his "meticulous" work on a range of projects, his fair, hourly pricing, the fact he's licensed + insured in UT, and his communication caused me to contact him to discuss this project. Within a day, on a Saturday, he texted me to confirm the details I provided in my "Request for Quote". He asked questions showing me he was paying close attention. We arranged for him to come by the Monday of Christmas week, after he was done w/his other customer. He showed up on time, ready to discuss the project, looked over the product we were going to order and discussed his approach. He stayed for an hour & when I offered to pay him, said "not necessary". It was clear he was very thorough and cared about doing a job correctly. We set up a date in mid-January allowing us time to order all the items to have on hand. We confirmed our appointment via text & showed up on time with the necessary tools to get to work. When I saw other reviews mentioning he was "meticulous" or using other words, I knew that's the kind of person I wanted to work on this rental home to ensure this addition was done correctly and professionally. I can attest that he definitely measured "twice" and cut "once". Since the door opening was tall and narrow, he took the time to ensure he hit studs and used his laser level. As I checked in on the progress, he was always deep in concentration, but asked necessary questions along the way. We had neglected to purchase some additional lumber, so while we did that, he spent the time cleaning up. He was always working, I never saw him take a break, was courteous when asked a question, but preferred no chit-chat, which I appreciated because I was paying him hourly. Afterwards, it was clear he was pleased with his work, and so were we! We had purchased a soft close option, suggested by the website, but did not work with the item. He quickly found a product that would work with our door, explaining to us how we could install it ourselves. We asked if he could do that & he agreed, kindly offering that he has a two hour minimum project. We appreciated this detail and considering having him back to install it + add some "tweaks" I've decided I want to add to the beauty of this door. He charged accurately for the hours he was here & took Venmo. We're thrilled with his work process and finished work and know whatever he works on will be done right. I think I asked for too much with the project I had. It ended up looking fine, but it took a really long time. It took over 10 hours to put up 8 pieces of plywood. It did take some cutting out slats to avoid rafter beams, but that still seems excessive. For that price per hour, it should have happened a lot faster. If it was going to be so hard, he should have brought help. When he was finished and told me how long it took, he forgot to say that he took a lunch. It was only when I called him on it that he said he did take lunch, then he tried to say it was shorter than it was. He also told me he was going to be here the day before and didn't let me know he wasn't going to make it until I messaged him 3 hours after he was supposed to be here. He said he got the days mixed up. I would suggest that if you have a very small job, he may be just fine. However, if you have anything that may need two people to get it done in a reasonable amount of time, look elsewhere. I should of known it was going to be trouble when he asked if anyone was going to help him. No, that's why I'm paying someone to do it. I know people need money, but they should also have the integrity to turn down a job when it's beyond their capability to get it done efficiently. read more
