A spontaneous drive through the east side and the wind led us here…read more Though visible and right off the freeway, the price point does not see the traffic like the clustered tasting rooms do, which makes it a more tranquil experience without the tourist breeze. Inside is delightfully spacious! Chambered ceilings with walls of barrels for a vintage feel, plenty of room for everyone, tables to accommodate any group. The decor 'pairs' well with the fun flights to make DW a pleasurable tasting experience. Our service was friendly and courteous, respectful to have us enjoy our reservation at our pace. Overall menu a bit steep... perhaps more than a bit steep. A vineyard destination set apart from the others, this venue is a beautiful setting for a relaxing afternoon.

We arrived near the end of the day so we had the whole space to ourselves. This was great because we have a toddler and I love being able to explore the space and snap photos without worrying about disturbing other customers. The host was super new to town and the job. Trying to order took a long time because she'd walk away to a far away space (kitchen?) to check on each question. "Can we still order food?" Walks away. "Does the charcuterie plate have any goat or sheep cheese?" Walks away. "I'd like the x tasting and the charcuterie platter." Walks away to put in the charcuterie order (instead of pouring the first wine). I wish she could have texted someone or used a computer/tablet to communicate with the kitchen... or had an experienced person there to provide guidance/training. Eventually we got the snacks and wine. They were each... okay. The wine tasting was a bit awkward because she was reading the descriptions (for the first time??) and seemed surprised by some of the flavors/notes mentioned. I can see us visiting again if we're for some reason in town for an event and the event happens to be here, but I'd rather explore other wineries if it's just us or a group of friends exploring Prosser wine tastings.

Martinez & Martinez Winery - the winemaker

So it was just another lost Saturday I thought. I was headed off to visit local wineries in the…read moreTri-Cities until I realized that Catch the Crush is not for another weekend. Luckily my friend told me that there is a group of wineries out in Prosser...all within walking distance of eachother and all open fridays/sat/sun for tastings...so off I went. I was happy with a lot of the wineries but one of my favorites was Martinez Martinez. It was located at the building that houses about 5 or 6 different wineries tasting rooms. When I went in their tasting room I was instantly in Mexico. They had a cozy little room with some laid back spanish music playing and the wife and husband were there to greet my friend and I. They were wonderful people and told us all about their winery and that this is barely their first year in business. Their son who is the winemaker was even around to come out and take a pic and tell us about his wines. I tried three of their wines the first was named after their grandson and is a blend of different reds named "Cesar" which was tasty. The second was a unblended Cab Sauv which was deep and robust...not too complex or overworked, just the grapes at their finest. The last was the show stopper and it was their Rose of Cab Sauv (I believe it was called, they just bottled it). They told me the residual sugar content and I closed my mind off saying I woudlnt like it and that it would likely be too sweet. Imagine my surprise when I sipped the chilled wine from my glass and was instantly swept away to a sunny day at the end of summer....sitting in a comfortable chair with friends, drinking the chilled sweetness of various ripe summer fruit. The sweetness of the wine is by no means overdone and goes off your tongue almost as soon as it was there. Its balanced well with the fruity flavors that give it base so you arent just drinking sugar. This wine was amazing and I wish I could have bought a few cases of it. If you are looking to support a wonderful up and coming winery without sacrificing quality of the wines this is it! Make sure to go out there on an open afternoon and spend a few min getting to know them and their wine.
