I cannot believe the things that Dr. Dembo-Smeaton said to me at my appointment today. I have never…read moreheard so many dangerously outdated comments and recommendations. 1. Upon hearing I have two little kids, she said, "Oh, so who helps you with the children?" When I replied, "My husband - he's great and has a flexible job so he takes on a lot of the kid stuff." She replied (and this is pretty darn close to verbatim): "Oh yes, it used to be that women could stay home and take care of the children. But not anymore. That was better." [This was especially confusing to me since Dr. Dembo-Smeaton obviously works, so I'm not sure why her bias against working mothers?!?!) 2. I asked for a referral to pelvic floor therapy since after my second delivery I had had the common issues with leaking while sneezing/laughing. She said I shouldn't be running at all and I should stop lifting heavy weights (I do the Body Pump class at the Y - not exactly Olympic bodybuilding). I told her that these are things I love doing, and I want to get treatment so that I can go back to enjoying doing the things I love without worry about peeing my pants. She looked at me condescendingly and said, "Well the important thing is that you have two beautiful children." And I replied, "Of course I appreciate my kids, but I also want to not have pelvic floor issues, and I want to run and lift weights ..." and she just doubled down and said, "Well after children things change and the important thing is that you have your family." or something like that. I was completely aghast. Are women not allowed to have a life and hobbies and be active post-delivery?! I couldn't believe how she just blew off my desire to exercise with a simple command to stop running and just appreciate my kids. 3. I asked for an updated birth control prescription now that I had finished breastfeeding. She asked what forms I'd used in the past and I said the ring and the pill, then she immediately said, "OK I will get you Nuvaring." When I replied that I wanted the pill instead, she said, "But the Nuvaring is so much easier!" Not sure why she needed to argue with me over MY preferred method of bc. 4. We were discussing losing weight and she advised, "if you want to lose weight you really need to just focus on cardio." This is such outdated and WRONG advice - it's well established that weight training is healthy and good for weight loss and good for preserving bone density, among other benefits.

I was referred to Nourish by a friend. I browsed their web site and read over the 'Providers and…read moreStaff' bios to try and decide which doctor I wanted to see based on my needs. Honestly, it was a bit of a shot in the dark. Prices of visits vary depending on who you see. I called to make an appointment, and was disappointed to find out it was about 3 months before I could get in. I was called and offered an earlier appointment when someone else cancelled, but I couldn't make it, so I stuck with my original appointment time. The front desk staff were always pleasant when I interacted with them. You have the option to visit in person or through an on-line virtual video visit. For my first visit, I decided to go in-person as I wanted to make a connection with the doctor and for her to really "see me". The office is very clean, modern and upscale, although not 'cold and clinical'. The decor colors are welcoming and serene. There is a waiting room and then you're called back to your doctor's office and you walk through a common area with a large table. There's a small restroom and a phlebotomist's room. I left after my first visit (which was about an hour) with my head spinning slightly as I felt like I had some 'homework' to do before my next visit. This included downloading an app, through which to order supplements and ordering said supplements. Organizing getting bloodwork (which, after some research turned out to be less expensive through a 3rd party lab, not through the Nourish phlebotomist), ordering a prescription through a compound pharmacy and purchasing and utilizing a continual glucose monitor through another retail outlet. While wearing the monitor, I had to enter any food consumed and any exercise activity into the glucose monitor app. Communication with your Nourish doctor is done through a 'patient portal'. Any messages I sent were usually answered within a couple of days. I also called the front desk a few times with questions. For my second visit, I chose the convenience of meeting virtually on-line to save the commute time. This visit was about 40 minutes, done through the portal. The doctor I chose was professional, knowledgeable and pleasant, but not particularly warm and bubbly. She didn't smile much. Not a lot of pleasantries like , 'How was your summer?' or 'How was the drive here?' or whatever, just strictly down to business. That's OK, but I like a little bit more of a friendlier/interactive bedside manner. Between two visits, some bloodwork (outside my provider network), several supplements, a compound pharmacy prescription and mail delivery, plus purchasing a glucose monitor, (also out of my provider network), I spent just over $1,100. After my second visit, it kind of occurred to me that the operation relies a little heavily on the recommendation of supplements which you order through a portal they suggest -- obviously they make a commission. (I was told by the front desk to 'Not order through Amazon'!) I didn't feel like the first set of supplements had done much, so I decided not to order the second set that was suggested. I felt I was given very minimal nutritional advice. I'm glad I gave Nourish and naturopathy a try and I was pleased that I was tested/monitored for things that my regular medical provider wouldn't bother testing for, however, ultimately I didn't feel like it solved much for me. I showed up Jan 14. They told me "BY" means "ON" Feb 12. It doesn't. The dictionary says that "by" means "not later than." Then they said "by" means a hard date." It doesn't. ChatGPT says that "BY" means "before a given date, which is usually an expiration date." Simple. So here I sit continuing to fast and get hungry and thirsty and unhappy and sit and sit and sit waiting for the busy doctor to re-enter whatever info the lab thinks it needs, in their special language, so I can take my tests. The order was written months ago, btw , so their misinformation is especially baffling. Approaching my 2nd hour+ here and thinking This is a terrible introduction to Scripps lab.

She's one of the few osteopaths that still does osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT). She has been so supportive of me as I recover from an injury. Dr. Myers also did not push SDSM's PT service. 5 stars for Dr. Myers. I'd call the staff average. Being nice to them does help. Their billing department and referral departments could use some work, though. I got overcharged, and it took them 5 months to resolve what should have been very simple. Meanwhile, the referral department can be very slooooow, and inflexible. I had requested a different provider, and my PCP agreed to the change. The referral department would not accept the substitution, claiming the doctor did not send them an official referral request. Of course, I don't find this out until after several months after I started with my provider that we didn't have a "legitimate" referral. I still recommend them, but with those caveats.

I appreciate that Dr. Koretoff respects my concerns and refers me to a specialist when my medical history and/or symptoms warrant doing so. It's clear that he wants his patients to be healthy and have the best quality of life possible (even if it means having to engage in a prior authorization fight with an insurance company to do so. Additionally, the staff here - from x-ray tech to clinic staff - are friendly and treat me with respect. Thank you for keeping me healthy!
