I moved to the NYC area from Appalachia, and from the NYC area to the Boston area. You wouldn't think that spending only a few years in the NYC area would make me a pizza snob, but oops, it did. That said, it's damned difficult to find decent pizza in Boston. This stuff they call pizza isn't pizza, it's very nice flatbread with fancy toppings. That's NOT pizza. Pizza is a crispy crust (or a soft, bready crust) with good sauce and greasy cheese and toppings and FLAVOR, for the love of god, flavor. Alexander's is the closest thing I've found to that. It's greasy and delicious, good toppings, good crust, good price. The crust under the sauce and cheese (that is, not the exposed thing at the edge of the pie) leaves a bit to be desired, it's kind of soft and chewy, but whatever, this is the best thing I've found since I moved here, I took down half of a large in one sitting (I'm not a very big person, so half a pizza is a big deal for me) and have no regrets about it. Biggest complaint is that they don't deliver. Which doesn't matter because they're close enough to my commute for me to pick up a pizza ... which does then matter because I commute by bike so the pizza'll be cold by the time I get home. By far the best steak tip dinner I've had at any Greek pizza shop. Instead of putting the salad inside with the steak and fries, they put it in it's own container. That pretty much doubled the size of the steak and fries compared to any other I've had. The steak was medium rare, cooked to order and the fries were big and crispy. In Lexington many places are too expensive for blue collar people and the food isn't that great. Alexander's is a hidden gem in Lexington; the prices are reasonable for this town and the food is good. The pizza is great when you eat it fresh but I personally like the salads the most, especially the Greek salads. It comes in this huge box with a lot of feta and it leaves you stuffed. Also, it comes with a piece of pita bread which I absolutely love love love. The fries are great, especially with the cheeseburger club. Lately when I order it though the bread doesn't come toasted but I'll ignore it for this place. Ordered a chicken kabob salad and water was charged $11.70 when inquired that the combo menu says 9.64+ tax was told I specifically have to say combo or they don't give you combo price. Owner was rude and did not appreciate my business and said he doesn't need my business and will be here if I come back or not. Officially, the worst food I've ever had. Not only they forgot to put cheese in my "Steak & Cheese" sub, the meat was so dry, it was nearly impossible to eat. I actually made sure to otder EXTRA CHEESE, and there was not an ounce of cheese in the sub. The staff is unfriendly and not helpful at all when I called to complain about the food. Stopped for lunch while passing through Lexington on our way to NH. My daughters split a blt, my husband got chicken parm and I got a homemade meatball sandwich. They all came with a pickle and small bag of chips. The sandwiches were very good, he didn't skimp on the bacon in the blt. The parm and meatball had a spicy house sauce that was great! Sandwiches were a great size for a small - everything was just enough. Owner was very friendly and definitely appreciates his customers. He even bought us all an ice cream novelty from the freezer and 2 drinks for the kids!! More businesses need to take a note from this pizza shop, they value and appreciate their customers! The sauce and dough have changed and it is for the better as of 2011. Best pizza around, at least for me. I prefer the current Alexander's over Bertucci's, Upper Crust and any other local comers. Try their steak kabob and chicken kabob dinners and salad too. Last review as in 2009 Good solid Greek pizza. Long time staple with a great steak or chicken kabob any way you want it. Recent pizza sauce blend is not as good as prior stuff. Great supporter of local sports teams and antique car collectors. Not what it used to be. Sadly, the best thing to write about is the atmosphere and service. The workers are frinedly and appreciate the business. There is a lot of retro car stuff on the walls and always a newspaper to read while you wait or eat. They have Cruise Night once a week in the summer with some great classic cars. However, the food isin't what it used to be. Still OK, but nothing worth traveling across town to. The 7-day pizza special still drags me in on occasion (2 slices, 20 oz. coke for under $4). But with so many other places to choose, Alexander's seems less attractive these days. I'd still check it out if in need for a quick meal. read more

This is hands down the best pizza in the area HOWEVER once again the service disappoints. We are so close to not ordering here ever again which would be a shame because the food is so good. We ordered 2 pizzas at 415 today hoping to have them within the hour since we live so close by. We stated that we lived in bedford but right off hartwell and asked if that was an issue, they said no. At 525 someone calls lost, says oh no we read the address wrong, and she was am hour way on the arlington side of lexington. Now we have half an hour before going out trick or treating to scramble 8 eggs for 5 people. Yum hope we don't starve. 'cmon folks, this a typical eastern Mass. Sub and Pizza joint. No more, no less. They are all pretty "average". I've lived in Lexington since 1989 and been here dozens and dozens of time. It always comes out about the same, no matter what is ordered. This isn't gourmet food, nor should you expect first class service. Whether I order on line, by phone or in person, I always get what I wanted. The "not even close" comment is incredulous. Maybe the author should think about how well he or she communicates also. People make mistakes, and they don't hire rocket scientists. They only started with delivery service a couple years ago. Unlikely they can hang onto drivers. Just go get it yourself. I'm not an apologist for them, and they are not a "favorite", but I know I can go just about anywhere in the metro area and get the same thing, good or bad. Most of the shops are owned by Greeks, so that explains some of it. Agree with the minimal seating at a counter, and it's not at all comfortable in the winter as the cold wind blows right onto the counter. The owner is a big classic car buff and he'll do one or two drive-ins per year with a dozen pretty cool looking cars. Lunch time is big with the trades and police. I go there, I don't expect a lot. But it's damned cheaper than most of the restaurant$$ in Lexington, and there are not a lot of choices for something fast. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in here after visiting the Hanscom Air Force Base. We were both starving & came across this place. We both got a steak and cheese sub & split a order of fries. It was honestly the best steak and cheese sub we both have ever had. It the perfect amount of seasonings on the steak & the cheese was perfect. The fries are to die for! After we had sat down it started getting busy & a lot of people were getting pizza which looked delicious! The service was great. Everyone was friendly and attentive. My food was cold like it had been sitting for an hour. (yes that cold).... also the website prices reflect another price than whats reflected in the actual shop. Couldn't give this place a decent rating in good conscious back in 2011 due to several disappointing showings in a row, but I have to say that Alexander's is back. I gave it a shot while in a pinch working in the area. I got a large tuna and was surprised they now serve subs with a small bag of Cape Cod potato chips and a deli pickle. The restaurant is also remodeled and very clean. It appears they have really begun to take pride in apperance again. As I remember from the past, the service is friendly and the value is good. Great pizza, but you have to get it fresh out of the oven! I don't know what the deal is, but the quality degrades faster than any other pizza after it sits around for awhile. I've only had a couple subs here, but they were both subpar. Turkey was decidedly meh, and the steak sub had weirdly marinated peppers and onions. I hate to say it, because I like patronizing independent businesses, but I have to go to D'Angelos in Bedford for a half-decent steak and cheese. I've seen the staff be inattentive and rude in the past, but actually, lately everyone has been consistently quite nice. Alexander's is pretty well known around Lexington. Seems like they've been around for quite some time. For a Greek pizza place I'd say they're about average. If you like greasy pizza, I know some do, you'll like Alexander's. Good flavor, just too greasy for my taste. Gyro's are good here. I have to say I'm not as big a fan of their subs in general. Alexanders Pizza is a gem, The owner Billy and his brother Jimmy are great not only that but everyone there is super friendly. The food is excellent I've slowly been eating my way through the menu, they have great steak and cheese amazing pizza and calzones even better salads. They are a small place but they've always got sports channels on for whatever game your into. This place gets packed and for good reason, so although you may wait for your food a little while it's totally worth the wait. The pizza by the slice is great if you are running short on time normally at its prime during lunch time weekdays. So nasty and so basic. The first time i ate here i got a chicken cutlet, when i tried opening it the bread was so soggy it stuck to the aluminum.. i have never had bread stick to aluminum ever.. anyway i brushed it off, and ate it, it was so basic. The sub had zero flavor and the chicken was clearly frozen and reheated. I then decided to give it another chance, a few days later i order a chicken ceaser wrap... the worst i have ever had. The wrap was dripping out of all sides with ceaser dressing in excess, it was EXTREMELY over dressed and tasted like straight pepper, the wrap it was in was dripping wet... i couldn't even eat half it was that bad. While I'll admit I haven't tried *anything* else on the menu, I have little desire to stray from the focal point of this place - the 7-day special. Yeah, sometimes the pizza sits under the lights too long and is meh, but for 3.75 incl. tax for two slices and a soda? You can't go wrong with that. Also, look around for a coupon for an $8 large cheese pizza because that is one hell of a deal as well. The peeps behind the counter are pretty cool too, and the only reason I'm deducting a star is due to their newspaper choice.
