My high school daughter and her boyfriend had a 6:30 PM 8/8/26 reservation at Alexander's on 30th. I personally dropped them off right in front of the restaurant at exactly 6:30 PM. Unfortunately, they did not receive their food until 8:12 PM, almost two hours after their reservation time. I understand that restaurants can get busy, especially on a Saturday night, but waiting nearly two hours for food when you have a reservation is unacceptable. What disappointed me even more was that they are both high school students, and I felt that they were not given the same level of attention or service that adult customers would expect. I would not recommend this restaurant for younger diners going out on their own based on the experience my daughter and her boyfriend had. Visited last night with a large group of 15+ people on what already be a very busy night ($8 pasta night) and our server, I believe his name was Jesse, was absolutely WONDERFUL! We did make this reservation very far in advance for a birthday celebration, but we were seated promptly, every staff member we encountered was beyond friendly, and the food was delicious! What's as most impressive is that everyone's food came out essentially at the same time , all of it hot and it all looked fab! I picked a pasta with the vodka sauce and a couple additions and truly enjoyed it, the spicy Caesar was also delish! We sat down pretty instantly which was great. Our waiter was friendly and explained everything on the menu pretty thoroughly. He mentioned pizzas would take about 40min which was fine. We ordered a few appetizers: the Brie and bread, bruschetta and the garlic bread. Those came out sporadically and tasted pretty good. Now for the pizzas. I took a bite of mine and it was like chewing cardboard. It was so hard and overdone that I couldn't even eat another slice. These slices were also tiny and thin so you'd figure it shouldn't be too hard to eat. I looked over at my friends and unfortunately two of them felt the same way. We just kept chewing and I felt like I was getting a defined jawline with all my chewing lol. We then lost our waiter for a good portion of the dinner. When we tried to pay we gave our card to another staff member since we couldn't find our guy. When our guy came back, he gave us the check we paid since we wanted to leave but then we had to chase down the initial staff member who we had given one of our cards to. I personally prefer Pasta Night. My favorite dish is the Lemon Ricotta Signature Pasta. They also offer deals on select appetizers and salads. I highly recommend trying the cheesy garlic bread, Rustico Salad di Casa, and the beet goat cheese salad. Words can't describe how much I love Alexander's! It's my favorite place in San Diego and I've been coming here for the past 10 years. I decided to celebrate my birthday here with my girl friends since it's an intimate place! The servers were so nice and friendly. We sat on the patio on Monday where they were streaming Legally Blonde! The food was perfect and by the end of the night they brought out a large cutting board with an assortment of desserts. Really enjoyed our anniversary dinner here! Came on a Wednesday about 20 minutes earlier than our reservation time and got seated right away. We were able to find easy free street parking no problem about a block away around 6:30pm. The host and our waitress were lovely. We received complimentary garlic bread to start. With an appetizer or two, the two pizzas were enough for our group of six. There are no reservations on Monday and Tuesday for pizza and pasta nights so the wait was about 45 minutes but if you plan to walk around North Park for a while or get a drink elsewhere while you wait it can work out fine. Floors were covered in food debris from night before. Forks were dated, filthy, and not proper size for a semi-upscale place. Salad and dinner forks were same size. I got food poisoning from the penne in pink sauce. Yay. Tasted like the Heavy cream was expired. Server was nice and that's about it. Got to listen to staff in back cussing and gossiping. Not a pleasant experience. Paid $100 for food borne illness. I'm sure this place was great once upon a time, but needs a major overhaul in management, decor, and cleanliness. One Tuesday I tried to be a walk in and I was surprised that the reactions were so far out, and they could reserve my spot at the podium, I had to go online and check every single Tuesday individually until I found a Tuesday with an open reservation. The customization was fun but I wouldn't say it was too much cheaper. The one thing that did stand off out to me was their beet and goat cheese salad! I loved how big the beet chunks were and it was so refreshing, highly recommend it. The ambiance was fine, they lit a lot of candles so the restaurant was pretty dark. We decided to try our luck as a walk-in party of 3 right after they opened. Thankfully, we were 3rd in line upon opening and got a nice corner table in their outdoor patio next to a heater. LOVES: Baked Vodka Bolonese, house bread, service (Riley was our waiter), $5 house Cabernet, Tuesday night Pasta menu, Tiramisu, and restaurant's ambiance. LIKES: Lemon Riccota Créma, Caprese salad, and minestrone soup DISLIKES: Reservation difficulty, parking difficulty, restroom could be cleaner, toilet seat doesn't stay up (meaning men will use it standing w/ seat down), and restaurant is too big for one unisex restroom. Even if you come for their Tuesday $8 movie and pasta night, they still offer their full dinner menu if desired. Food and service was excellent! During the winter, an indoor table would be preferred despite how beautiful the patio was, but you'd probably need a coveted reservation for an indoor table. Can't wait to come back... read more
