    Chicken piccata, very good!
    Linda H.

I visited with a group, ordering the Chicken Piccata. My entree was very good, lots of flavor, but the sauce was a little thin for my taste. But I'm no piccata oficianado! It was full of capers and mushrooms, very enjoyable. But I have to say, the complimentary garlic bread stole the show!!! I would return for that, alone. I had a glass of Tuscan Chianti to round it off. Service was excellent. There was a romantic vibe to the place, I think it would be great for date night.

I came for their Tuesday $8 Pasta night and I highly recommend your next happy hour/girls dinner night here! $5 house red and white wine (Pinot Grigio was their house white and it was yummmmy) For their $8 pasta selection -- I ordered the spaghetti w. meat sauce and added mushrooms. The food was really amazing! I was nervous it wasn't going to be as good because of how good the deal was itself - but I highly recommend you to come and try it out! There are also appetizers that they have on the menu for $5-7 that are also worth trying! I ordered the caprese. it seems like it's pretty packed here so make a reservation in advance or get here early!

My friends and I came for Pizza Mondays with $2 beer, $5 wine, and $8 build your own pizzas with a couple dollars for each extra you add. It's a beautiful restaurant and has a very cute patio with heat lamps and string lights. The servers were helpful and friendly. We made two build your own pizzas and both were delicious. With an appetizer or two, the two pizzas were enough for our group of six. There are no reservations on Monday and Tuesday for pizza and pasta nights so the wait was about 45 minutes but if you plan to walk around North Park for a while or get a drink elsewhere while you wait it can work out fine. They included a 20% tip built into the bill, so check for that when calculating whatever tip you may wish to leave. Lovely experience, I'll definitely be coming back!

Angel hair with marinara, pancetta & mushrooms

Pretty disappointing. Came for their $8 pasta Tuesday night and ordered an ANGEL HAIR MARINARA with pancetta & mushrooms and then a RIGATONI MARINARA with chicken. Both were just lackluster sauce that tasted out of a can and the mushrooms were so huge and chewy. Also got their garlic bread to start and there was only garlic on the first slice so the rest was just bread. Glad I came for their discount pasta night and not their regular priced menu.

My son bought me a gift card for this place for Christmas and I hate that it's taken me this long to get there. Luckily, we showed up on a Tuesday pasta night and was able to sit at the bar without a reservation. It was probably the best meal I've had this year. I built my own pasta bowl with creamy pesto, sun-dried tomato, and Jumbo shrimp. This was 100% delicious. Do not pass on the beet salad. I love the open clean kitchen. You can watch everyone working hard and making every plate perfect.

Finally made it to Tuesday Pasta night! We booked on opentable, we just had to plan a month out to get a decent time. There were 5 of us and we were seated inside. The table was little weird for 5, inside was also pretty dim, but still manageable. Build your own pasta started at $8 and depending on the sauce was extra along with the protein and additional toppings, still cheaper than some of the ready made dishes. They also have $5 wines! We share some garlic bread and bruschetta. Everything was delicious and the service was great. It was fun to get together at the start of the work week. We definitely are looking forward to coming back!

We had a reservation for Saturday evening and were seating upon arrival. They had us sat with waters and fresh bread already waiting. The decor was simple but very cute! The food was delicious! I got their vegetarian option for pasta and it was great! They did have an option to add protein.

Came here at night and the ambiance was so cute. It's dimly lit and cozy, which makes it feel really romantic. Not overly pricey and the pasta was delicious. Service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and very accommodating. Great spot for a casual but nice dinner.

This is my 3rd time coming here and this time we came the day after Valentine's Day on a Sunday at 6:30PM. Had a reservation and got here around 6:15, had a wait a bit to be seated. Got seated outside and the ambiance was very nice with a movie playing. Service was a little slow, we had our menus for about 20 minutes. Only ordered the bruschetta at first while we were looking for dairy free, non-spicy, options; wasn't very much to do with one vegan option and slight substitutions. Got one of the bruschettas with no cheese and they were delicious. Complimentary bread with balsamic and oil were very good as well. After getting the bruschetta is when we ordered Theodore's pizza and a pasta. Big portions, took most of it home. Good food overall just a little slow but understanding since it was busy because of valentines weekend.

Perfect place for date night. The ambiance inside is quaint and outside is romantic with the lights and old school movie playing on a projector. They have heat lamps and a fire pit as well. Besides the vibes being on point, the food is also great. Came here for their Monday pizza night and had the pesto and the pepperoni. The pizza is thing crust and a good portion (2 people can share pizza). Their red wine on special was decent, and the apps were also delicious. Going to check out their pastas next time.

    $5 Argentinian red wine
    Grace L.

I've been hearing a lot about Alexanders on 30th's Monday Pizza Nights, so my friends and I scheduled a girls' night. We started off with the house baked buttered garlic bread ($1.95). This was good, but definitely messy to cut ourselves. We each got a glass of $5 Argentinian red wine which was tasty. The four of us decided to share two pizzas: -The Parker is a signature pizza ($15.95): which comes with evoo, mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, pear, walnuts, arugula, and honey. This was tasty, and I loved the contrast between the sweet and salty flavors. I would highly recommend this one. -We also created our own pizza. The base for building your own pizza is $8. Then we added vodka sauce (+$2.95), buffalo mozzarella (+$2.95), pancetta (+$3.95), and maui onion (+$2.95). In total, our pizza came out to $20.80. This was tasty and hearty. While the food was delicious, the only downside is that it was a very long wait. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes before our pizzas came out. It was still worth it, and I'd definitely still go back!

My wife and I are visiting from the Seattle area, and a friend recommended we check out the North Park neighborhood. After looking at a few dinner options, we decided on Alexander's. The dining room was fully booked, but they were able to seat us at the bar without a reservation. The restaurant is beautiful, and the staff were friendly and attentive. It turned out to be the best meal we've had on this trip. We started with the Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms, and they also brought out some fantastic bread. I ordered the Cappellini Pomodoro with shrimp, and my wife had the Chicken Piccata. It looked like our meals were ready, but the server caught an issue (possibly missing the shrimp). Although my plate came out a few minutes after my wife's, it was clear they remade it from scratch rather than simply adding shrimp to a dish that had been sitting. We enjoyed both and finished up with a large portion of Tiramisu. Overall, it was a great way to wrap up our stay in San Diego. I'd recommend Alexander's for both the food and ambiance.

The space has housed a couple of short-lived entities after a longtime rice bowl eatery closed its doors a few years ago. The small plaza had limited parking with about a dozen spaces for the customers of the tenants. The business was not fully up to speed yet during my visit so this feedback is mainly for a sandwich. The grocery aspect was in full view as there were shelves with dried goods and displays of refrigerated products. I was told that pasta dishes and other food offerings will be added to the menu which only comprised of several sandwiches available from 10:30 to 3:30. The prices ranged from $15 to $19. I chose the Americano which consisted of asiago fresco, prosciutto, genoa salami, coppa, bell peppers, and lettuce on focaccia. The sandwich was sliced into two square halves and wrapped in foil. I liked the variety of deli meats included, however the size was small for $18. A spread of some sort would have also enhanced the flavors of the ingredients as the product was a bit dry. I will come back to try the pasta and whatever other hot dishes they may have. For now, I gave a three star rating for Gusto Deli & Bistro.

It's always popping up as one of the best burgers in San Diego. The vibe in the place was cool. Bustling and music blasting. I look around for the menu. Not easy to find. I guess it's one of those "if you know you know" but then I saw a small chalkboard that listed the burger and a tiny printout pizza menu way in the back. I order a burger and coke. So pumped to try it. I ask for no onions and the guy at the register immediately cops a huge attitude like I ruined his day. He points at the chalkboard and says "no substitutions". I reply "no biggie! I can scrape em off or something" dude looks pissed and says "they're hard to scrape off" I know reading this I may sound unreasonable. Maybe dude was having a bad day. But the way he was looking and speaking to me made me want to walk away from the counter not bother ordering. If you are great at burgers but not customer service maybe stay off the register and stick to the grill. My friend with me goes "not very friendly for a place called the friendly" so it wasn't just me. The burger comes out. Honestly I'd bet on a good day it's great. But today it wasn't. Overly greasy. Ironically all of the onions slid right off so I'm not sure why he feels it would be too difficult for me to remove myself. The burger could barely stay in the bun it was so greasy. The aioli spread was all on one side of the burger and it was a mess. I'm not sure if maybe this place used to be great and since has declined, or if the staff was just having such an off day that it reflected in the effort of the food. Or if the guy just had some issue and felt like taking it out on us today. But needless to say. There's plenty of amazing smash burger places in San Diego. Excited to try somewhere else.
