This was a great place to stay when coming up to Grand mesa. The prices were reasonable and the cabins were nice and clean with a great location. Go to their cafe for coffee and wifi 8am-9am and a yummy Polish breakfast! The cabin kitchen is stocked with pans and baking sheets, soap, sponges. Bring your own food, butter, salt and pepper. Bathroom has towels etc. We'll be back! read more

This was a beautiful stay! We stayed in the viking room. Very comfortable beds and very nice shower. We stayed with children and they loved the theme. Very close to lakes for fishing. The staff were very friendly. The food at the lodge was good. There is also a close walk to a small general store with great sandwiches. Got to see great wildlife! Alexander Lake Lodge is by far the nicest location for cabins on the Grand Mesa. Sits on Lake Alexander with many evergreen surrounding the cabins and lodge. The onsite owners and operators take great pride in their operation. They offer breakfast and dinner menus to both resort guests and the general public. Dining options on the Mesa are very limited, so the historic Alexander Lake Lodge was a nice surprise. Highly recommend a visit. read more

We were in Cabin 4 last week, and enjoyed a lovely stay! The cabin was clean, and comfortable, and we didn't need for anything. Anna and her family are friendly, pleasant and accommodating. Should you be hungry I recommend an order of the pierogis, and a cold polish beer. I am really confused by the negative reviews on here. We found the entire experience to be delightful, and the dogs enjoyed the coziness of the cabin too! Looking forward to our next visit. read more

We took a drive yesterday in the snow and decided to have lunch at Alexander Lake Lodge on the Mesa. We got out and started walking in when the owner asked if he could help us. We told him we drove up from Grand Junction to have lunch. He was very agitated and told us he wasn't even sure if they were serving lunch. He said to go in and ask his wife. We went in and didn't even get in the door and the wife told us she was cleaning and could we shut the door! Wow! We asked if she was serving lunch and she said all I have is sausage and fries or pot pie. She said it's not their fault the delivery truck was late... I would have had no problem with what they had but they have such a poor attitude that we will not go back!!!! We did call before going and they said they would be open both Friday and Saturday. read more

Just returned from a stay at Alexander Lake Lodge. I didn't expect too much from the place and I guess it met my expectations except for the fact that the people working there were not at all friendly. Also they are petty and apparently lazy. The website makes it look like they have a lodge and a restaurant, but I don't think they really do. Every time we inquired about food they said something about asking "Her" if she had something she could make. I don't know who "Her" was.... That's okay. I thought it might be like that and we brought plenty of food. The cabin was clean enough, but not immaculate. some cobwebs in the corner don't bother me much. they have a placard in the unit that says if you try to turn up the heat or your dog gets on the bed that they will charge you $250! The place is slightly on the cool side as they have the thermostat set, but that was fine. I just wore some warm clothes and a hat. The hot water for the shower barely did the job. mind you I have camped out over 100 nights on some years. I am not a lightweight for discomfort. So, despite the misdirection over the "Lodge" facility , the way the staff looked at you like I wasn't welcome every time I interacted with them, the punishment-threatening placard in the room, the dog shit on the path that predated our arrival (which I finally picked up), etc......I just chalked it up to a quirky stay in a quirky place run by a quirky family. The kind of memory that we could laugh about later. THEN we got home to find out that they were charging us for the dog being on the bed! The dog never got on the bed. It was way too high for him to sit on his own and we certainly didn't lift him up there. They said that they had to run a lint brush on the sheets? Do they NOT wash the sheets? Eww! We had used a bit of toilet paper to sweep up some hair, the kitchen was as clean as when we arrived. All it needed was to wash the sheet, vacuum and wipe a few things down and it would look as good as when we arrive. For accuracy: They didn't try to charge us $250. The charge was $52. I don't know why it was that amount. I think that we were exemplary guests, but this pissed me off! read more

My favorite cabin to stay at almost every year but only near or on Fall. Summer, not so great with mosquito season and too hot in cabin and the screen was broken so couldn't open window but that was ONE experience. Me and my son love it there. This is a review for the restaurant part of the lodge. We saw that this place was packed during the weekend, so we stopped in here for lunch on a weekday after a hike. The place was deserted, so we were seated quickly and picked where we sat. The man who greeted us and was our waiter was gruff and a bit unfriendly at first, but warmed up over the course of our time there. The interior is nicely done and seems pretty new. The menu had a decently wide selection, and we got burgers and the pierogis. We had to wait a long time for the food, especially given that we were the only ones there, but it was fresh, clearly homemade, and delicious. The fries were especially good! Prices were what I would expect. Overall, a pretty good experience, and I think we'd go back. read more

I noticed the other ratings on this restaurant, but did not see the previous reviews. Not that it matters. Our experience, for lunch today, was very enjoyable. Starting with the setting, near the Grand Mesa Visitor Center and about a mile from the Scenic Byway (Highway 65). Alexander Lake is off to the right and we were seated with a good view of it. I would say the only glitch was that the anticipated delivery of foods, etc was late. So, rather than have the nachos I would have chosen from the menu, I enjoyed a freshly baked Chicken Pot Pie with a salad and very tasty fresh coffee. Louisa enjoyed Pulled Pork and Fries. The service was prompt and courteous. When I asked whether they had "good" coffee, he offered to make a fresh pot of it for me and yes, it was very good. The pricing was pretty much what I expected, given the location, 16 miles from the nearest city or town, Cedaredge to the South and Mesa to the North. The tab was $19 and I added our usual 20%tip. I just returned from my stay at Alexander Lake Lodge and the cabins were nice and comfortable to stay in. I was NOT happy that the towels were not white so I knew they were bleached and they were very old and worn. While staying in the cabins I did not appreciate that the management was watching us and continued to yell down to the cabin such things as 'shut the door, your letting in the misquotes,' and telling us to turn off the outside porch light when we had just gotten up in the morning and were walking around. When I rent the cabin it is up to me which lights I leave on and what doors I leave open. The owners/managers were also very brash when you when attempt to talk with them and anything. The "complimentary " breakfast is from 8:00-9:00 ONLY just so you know in advance, even while we were in there still eating (because I arrived for breakfast at 8:50 ,being in the mountains I wanted to relax and sleep in a little), they came in and began clearing everything away. The scenery is breathtaking and the stay was refreshing. Having no cellphone service was amazing, however, if you go to the lodge I was told that they will give you the WiFi password (????). The hubby and I went for an impromptu drive on the Grand Mesa last night when we realized it was getting dark fast. We decided to stop in at Alexander Lake Lodge Restaurant. We just waned to get a drink and maybe an appetizer. While we were impressed with the lovely tavern, the 'Supreme Nachos' were most disappointing! I have had better nachos at my sons t-ball games. Maybe using 'real' cheese would be a good place to start since your charging $10 for them. And we also agree, the waiter was a bit "unfriendly" at first with us too. Needless to say, these locals wont be back any times soon. read more

My wife and I rented a cabin for two nights as part of our honeymoon trip. The customer service was great and the cabin was well maintained. Incredible service and would highly recommend for anyone who loves outdoor recreation and an establishment that is available but also respects your privacy. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary with a weekend in one of this establishment's cabins. The first part of the stay was lovely other than the room being very cold when we first arrived (and they didn't explain how to use the new heater, which was not attached to the obvious thermostat on the wall). We had to ask for one of the staff to come to the cabin to assist us in getting the temperature bearable; this was done less-than-graciously. The heater worked well that night and the next morning, but that afternoon, it began shooting flames out of the firebox into the room each time it lit. We again sought assistance from the staff, but the problem didn't repeat while they were there watching for it. Unfortunately, the fiery problem and the staff's attitude regarding it (they couldn't believe their new heater was doing such a thing) ruined our visit. I knew if we stayed the night as planned, we'd just be concerned about the heater all night and wouldn't be able to sleep. They did offer an electric heater, with the understanding that it would be noisy, so that didn't seem like a great solution either. We opted to leave, as it was just after 7 pm and would be easier to leave then than to wait and see if the heater was going to continue to be a problem. They didn't offer to cut us a deal on the charges, so we paid for both nights in full. The bottom line is: Would we go back? No. read more

We rec ntly spent 3 nights at the Alexander Lake Lodge (our 3rd consecutive year at the lodge) and was reminded why we keep coming back. There's nowhere on th Grand Mesa that you will be mad more welcome! Anna, Jan, Sylvester (Sly) and the entire staff endeavor to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Anna even gave my wife a jacket to ware on a cool evening, yes she Gave it to her to keep. Don't miss the Polish dinner on Sunday evening. Be forewarned. This place charges you a 50% deposit for each night of lodging at the time the reservation is made. On the receipt for the deposit it says you will be charged the cancellation fee which is your deposit amount, if you don't cancel 2 weeks in advance. Nowhere on their website does it mention the cancellation fee. Having made my reservation less than a week out, I had no recourse. You have been warned. read more

One of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. Nice and friendly owners. However after reading some of the previous critical reviews I would like to ask all of us one question: 'Are we really doing a better job that we expect from others?'. Some of us critizied the work of people running the restaurant. A place with elevation of 11,000+ ft, where only a handful of people live and you are lucky if you find anyone willing to work extensive hours 7 days a week. It's not a fast food restaurant in your city, where multiple people prepare the same burgers day is and day out but a place where you came hoping to find something else than a burger. Please enjoy what is really unique in Grand Mesa and share with people you meet your excitement and just say 'thank you, that you serve me a food so that I don't have to carry it with me all day in a heavy backpack but can enjoy my hike'. Just walked in to buy a drink and use the restroom, owner rushed me and my stepdad out faster than we stepped in saying it's closed and no public restroom, practically yelling at us. Not friendly establishment at all. Unfortunately it's one of the only restaurants on the Mesa. This happened on April 7, 2018 at 1245pm, just so owner will remember us! We came up to the Mesa to have lunch. Our favorite place was closed so we went into Alexander Lake Lodge for lunch. When we walked in we were notified that they were out of most items on their menu. While looking over the menu trying to figure out what they had left my honey needed to use the restroom. When she came out of the restroom we decided to find another place to eat because of a lack of menu items. It was at that point the owner started to become verbally aggressive with us saying the restroom was for customers only. I tried to mention to her that we were going to be customers but they were out of most items on their menu.The owner continued to verbally berate us as we walked out the door. Stopped in for lunch. Over a 30 minute wait. 1 order came out- polish dog & the bun was cold. Another 5 + minutes till the second order arrived- bread also cold. Underwhelming! Lack of basic ammenities- rugs, paper towels, snow shovels, heaters, chairs, plates and silverware- the staff seems to have a total disregard for safety as they didnt clean off the steep steps that lead to the "cabin" after it hailed over 2in, following this lack of cleaning off my mother fell on the stairs injuring her knee, we would have cleaned them off ourselves; however, there was no device to do so. Remember to bring your own plates, chairs, heaters, paper towels, silverware, towels- because their colored towels cannot be bleached leaving you to wonder how clean they actually are- snow shovels, and ice, if you decide to stay. WARNING: stay away from Anna -the owner- worst customer service I've ever witnessed, very unpleasant and unaccomadiating to basic demands, she even goes far enough to attack my family and reaurch us trying to discredit your claims, saying my mother has "balance issues," and my father is trying to get money. As a "local" who spends a lot of time on the grand mesa we have seen several incarnations of the lodge's management/ownership. At first I was encouraged by the new owners being a family that would be running the place and not someone who was "leasing" the property from the owner. With promises of a new menu and dependable operating hours I had high hopes. I knew there might be some growing pains as the family figured things out but the same old problems are still there. My first experience came during the summer time when the mesa is busy. They had run out of food and had a very limited menu by the time we went to eat at 7 PM. again I thought just growing pains. I had family in town and had thought it would be nice to travel there for the Sunday polish dinner they offered on there menu. we got there walked in and after being told to go into the other room we where told that we would not be given menus and the "server" proceeded to tell us that "their food truck had f'ed up there order" and they didn't have almost anything on the menu so he was going to tell us what they did have. after speedily rambling off a few things he left. this brings me to my other problem with the place. the staff has a very crude manor, not welcoming, and seem almost bothered when you come into there place of business. I understand that this is a hard place to make things be profitable with logistical problem and such but these things must be dealt with and overcome to make it work and being known as undependable and or rude is what has brought down all the others that came before and they seemed doomed to follow. read more
