Terrible, first time leaving a bad review.
I thought why don't I support a local mom and pop. My brother had gone once to change winter tires here for $80, so I thought what's the harm for a tire change?
Needed to change my winter tires to summer and I share one set of rims between the two. The past few years the cost for this at OTHER places was $50-80 for the same car. As you can see, I don't mind paying a bit more if it's convenient and easy. I take my car for maintenancem and service regularly at various places and never had this type of experience.
I come in around 930am and he said it would take 30 mins. Great!
He had a couple of customers come by shortly after me and he seemed friendly with them, so at this moment I felt safe leaving him to work on my car.
Being cooped up inside for 5 weeks because of coronavirus, I decided to take a 15 min walk after he started changing the tires. As I came back, he started telling me about some issues my car/tires had. I told him I didn't want to change my brakes just yet, I don't have time to do anything other than the tire change. Politely asked him to just switch the tires.
Then he started telling me my hubcap was missing on one tire and the other side is loose. I told him don't worry about it, I dont care about the aesthetics of the car, I just want to change the tires. I know that the car is running fine and doesn't have any issues atm.
He then starts telling me I don't have two correct tire bolts. I told him, that's fine, I've been driving with it all winter and used these same ones all these years, told him if it's fits and it's been working, it should be fine. I've also changed the tires with a few separate shops, and none of them had any issues with the two non factory bolts.
This man was just asking me wayyyy too many questions!
Over an hour and a half goes by. He says one more thing! He tells me he CANNOT switch my forth tire from winter to summer because the tire sensor is broken.
At this point, we go back and forth and I'm asking him at least 4-5 times, please just switch the forth tire as well. He refuses for safety reasons. Says I NEED the tire sensor to work. Tells me to get it from my dealership.
To get some movement, I call my dealership, it's closed on Saturday due to covid-19.
Call Canadian tire, in the end I couldnt get a tire sensor today. The mechanic refused to switch my forth tire due to one broken tire sensor, even after I asked him several times to just switch it.
I've been driving ALL WINTER and the tire sensor has not once popped up on my dashboard. No issues, I know I take good care of my car.
He tells me, just buy the sensor from your dealership and change your last tire with them too. He just wouldn't budge.
I gave up, he wouldn't change it no matter what I said, so I'm now stuck with 3 summers and 1 winter. The alignment feels off and I feel like an idiot. It's long weekend and I can't take it to another shop until Monday/Tuesday.
He goes to the cash and says I'll charge you for three tires, and says $105 cash.
............. MY MISTAKE. I made the rookie mistake for the first time in my life for not confirming the price with him before I accepted him to do the service. I thought mentioning my brothers name on the phone and in person would be enough for him to honor the same price he was given. I take ownership for not confirming that first. BUT $105 for three tires?! Really?
I'm not even THAT mad about the price gouging. What is absolutely upsetting is that he did not switch all four tires. What type of place would put on three of your summers and put back one winter?! My summers and winters are in mint condition. The one broken tire sensor is not a dealbreaker, check anywhere on google/yt/guy friends that are familiar with cars. He should have still switched it for me.
The other upsetting thing was that he wasted my TIME. My time is more precious than that little extra bit of money he scammed me for. What was supposed to take 30 mins took me 2 hours!
I felt defeated, he had the demeanor of a nice man, but I had been duped for the first time in my life. He saw a new, young customer and he took advantage.
Thought to share my personal experience with the yelp community or anyone online thinking about going to this place. Make of it what you will.
It seems like this small shop has a loyal following (he said he has 500+ clients), but I cannot ever recommend this place to a new customer.
I feel comfortable being honest about my 0 star experience because he has so many existing clients. It won't hurt his livelihood. He just lost what could have been a repeat client in me. read more
