This is really a hub for creativity, whether it is for artists, businesses or events. No matter your venture, you will be welcomed here and looked after. The crew at Tenth & Gibson went out of their way to help me out with my event. No matter my enquiry, they found a way to assist and support what I needed. What I do love about this space is that it is well priced, open, well sized, funky, colourful and you can pretty much work the space you want it. There is nothing to navigate around; and there is great acoustics and lighting. There is some pretty cool street art on the walls and the decor is really funky and eclectic. So, you don't really need to do much to dress up the room. It already looks really great. The other bonus is it is just outside of the CBD and there is free street parking! Your guests will love that! If you need it, you can make great use out of the photography backdrop. You can project onto it or use it for your own photography for your event. It was a brilliant backdrop to my photos of guests. If you do have a catered event, there is a space to the side of the main Venue room you can use with easy street access. Speak to the staff about using this. I was absolutely delighted to have used Tenth & Gibson for an event. It is by far one of my favourite venues in Adelaide and I recommend it to anyone looking for a space for large or small events.

I wouldn't necessarily call it classy, but it has an atmosphere of being a place for semi-special occassions. Mind you, it is pretty popular, and a little pricier than what you would expect.

As the trend for pubs which look like fancy bars and fancier restaurants continues, its nice to walk into a pub with a solid wooden bar, well worn chesterfields in the front bar and fairly simple wooden tables in the restaurant expect the traditional as well; chicken schnittys, fish and chips - the works. The Duck Inn also has a great range of beers and ciders. Adelaide Hills cider has been on tap here since you could tap their kegs and their local range is superb for a small pub. Like most pubs, the Duck Inn does have pokies, but you can't hear them in the restaurant and the noise level in the bar is minimal. I'd opt for the Duck Inn on a lazy day and to sit in the Front bar next to the fire on the big couches with some beer and chips and spend your day doing not quite a lot.

Rather Partridge House is a beautiful old community home, originally built in 1899 for a Mrs Elinor Varley. The house is today set amidst stunning gardens and grounds and is used these days predominantly as a venue for weddings. Partridge house can also be hired for all sorts of events and is home to various community groups and organisations. If you're looking at hiring the venue, it will seat 80 people for a sit down function or can take 130 for a cocktail party. Take special note of the fountain in front of the house as a location for you photos. It was donated to the owner by former Adelaide Mayor and state pollie, William Townsend back in 1877. Fast forward a hundred years or so to the early 1970's, in fact around the same time TV's The Partridge Family was making it big, and there was talk of demolishing Partridge House and using the land to establish housing. Thank heavens, the then Glenelg Council decided to buy and restore the historic site instead. The beautiful gardens and grounds are open to the public every day, but the house is closed.

The prices are incredibly reasonable with lunchtime mains costing from $9 to $14. This means that you could potentially have a three course lunch (including a drink) for $20, which is probably the best price I have come across (this includes the free soup of the day as an entree). They also have a small (but nice) salad bar that has a soup of the day special, small bread rolls, garden salads, potato salads and fresh vegetables (no pasta salad unfortunately but the other salads made up for that). When I went for lunch, I had a lamb shank, it was very tasty and was served with a nice creamy mash potato. Vegetable sides could also be grabbed from the salad and vegetable bar. For $12, the food is around what you expect however is quite pleasant and was seasoned and prepared well. I also had a $6 dessert afterwards, which was an excellent chocolate cake. The cake had incredible flavours and was presented very well. They also have a nice soup of the day available from the salad bar. The soup that was there on the day was very nice, in fact I would go as far as to say one of the best mushroom soup's I have ever had. The staff were also very attentive, easy to talk to and the atmosphere was excellent. I have also been here on a night time where they have the same sort of menu and tried some chicken from their stonegrill menu (this menu is excellent and I would highly recommend it). They also have entertainment on the weekend with a stage and a dining hall. Overall, a good dining experience and the function center remains a great spot for a good feed without opening your wallet too far at all.

They are major supporters of the Adelaide Fringe, and host their own Fringe program over three different venues, including the two theatres at their Holden Street base, up to six different performance spaces in the Adelaide Town Hall and one at Thebarton Theatre. The director of the theatre invites international acts to the Fringe to create the Director's Choice season. They also support local and Australian performers. Alongside their huge Fringe involvement, they support the South Australian Writers Theatre by providing a venue for regularly staged readings. The company also runs a yearly Graduates Season for recent graduates from the AC Arts theatre courses as well as from the Flinder's Drama Centre. Graduates can apply to stage a performance at their theatre and be granted support. The theatre's busiest time is around the Fringe, and their performances are always worth checking out. They're also on the perpetual look-out for volunteers to help during the Fringe, and will thank you with free tickets to their shows!

A particularly interesting venue situation is the Holden Street Theatres, with a couple of venues in the same little complex. Directly beside the Hindmarsh Stadium, these theatres are inside old church buildings from years past. I have seen some very interesting shows here, and also some dreadful tripe. That's the chance you always take when it comes down to it. Going out to the theatre can be a great experience or it can be a bit of a dull dud. You may end up with a dull bum sitting on the less than luxurious seats at either the Holden Street Theatre or The Arch, and you may get a stiff neck in The Arch because neither stage or seating is raked, meaning it is all flat and not always comfortable to see depending on where you are and who is in front of you. There is also the lottery factor of local theatre; many local actors suddenly appear in one person shows or shows that are really a little far out of their reach as performers as they attempt to capitalise on the festival by throwing on a show, and they may as well have stayed under the rock they crept out from in the end; but there are some wonderful shows that come and go. Many of them here at these very theatres, so if you feel like the gamble, and usually it's around the twenty dollar mark, try out Holden Street. If nothing else you'll have an amusing adventure that hopefully will leave you inspired.
