Positive: Nice casual Italian restaurant off of Wells Road. I had the seafood pasta which was a great deal for $25 and was delicious. Sauce had a bit of a kick but wasn't too spicy. Husband had the lobster ravioli in a cream sauce that was also very good! Both meals came with garlic knots. Service was good and helpful with menu since it was our first time there. Negative: they are having a/c issues so it was a bit warm in there and I was a bit disappointed at it being an "ale" pie house their taps are not working. They are apparently waiting for a part to fix it. We would definitely come again and try the pizza as it looked amazing! read more

I'm gonna preface this review by saying that this is a restaurant that was in Jacksonville for a very long time over off St. John's Avenue. They recently moved over to Orange Park on Wells Road. I didn't get to post this review immediately because life got busy for me. But when we went they were still getting settled in and were still trying to get the landlord to fix the air-conditioning unit so it was a little warm inside. I'll be trying to go back very soon to see how things have changed and update my review, but I am not taking into account the temperature and the fact that they may not have everything you expect them to have as they do advise you of that right away as to what's available and what's not. Food-10/10. I've tried a lot of places for Chicago pizza in the area. I can honestly say that from my short time living in Chicago none of the ones down here have really felt like they've come close. So I've unfortunately been disappointed many times when trying to find something comparable. This is the first one I have found that has satisfied that craving. The crust was perfect. A nice crunch outside without being overly hard, and a soft chewy interior, and a cheesy, cheesy, cheesy goodness that I delighted in. The sauce was wonderful not too acidic not too sweet. Just a lovely balance of tomato perfection. My son had the chicken pesto pasta and he loved it. He may not like a lot of herbs, but he loves a good pesto. I didn't even get a garlic knot but my son said they were quite good. I definitely will be coming back soon to try another deep dish loaded with veggies this time, but for my first visit, I just wanted to taste the basics of it. Service-10/10. I'm very surprised to read some of the other reviews about the service. Because when I went in, it was a very hot day in early August and there was no AC running despite that the staff was constantly checking back with us even though we had sat farthest from the counter. They were welcoming and thoughtful. The owner came over and talked to us and apologized about the heat and thanked us for visiting. He explained the situation and that they hope to have it remedy very soon. So I felt that they were very hospitable and service oriented. Atmosphere-10/10. This restaurant is located in a small strip mall that is obviously an older strip mall on Wells Road. I think they do very well with the space they have and you can see that they are continuing to decorate. I personally like the darker interior as it feels like those small cozy restaurants you would find in Italy. Overall, I think it's definitely worth a visit. Obviously, they have some issues that are still being worked out with their transition. I feel like they probably had a lot to go through with suddenly not being able to continue their lease because costs rising astronomically over where they were and losing some of their staff to being much farther away and them not being able to travel to this job. But I'm glad this restaurant has taken steps to overcome that and remain open versus just close up and leave Jacksonville entirely. read more

Odd experience. It's called "Ale Pie House" but they didn't have beer, only wine. The place seemed like it was trying for a more upscale/wine bar vibe but the first word is literally Ale, so we were expecting something a bit more pub-style/casual. The pizza was good, nothing spectacular. The menu seems way too big for such a small place. Better to do a few things (like the pies you're named for) really well than a lot of things mediocre. The ratios were good though and I appreciate the diced ham. The a/c was out on 7/24, so it was probably 80 degrees inside. I hope they figure their stuff out. read more

We had eaten at the old location of Ale Pie House but this new location is easier and quicker to get to! One can tell the bread is fresh and the pizza dough; the owner came out later to talk to Sarah about the margarita pizza slices she had wanted but they don't make that pizza for slices but next time he'd make her a small margarita pizza...very nice of him. A lunch special 1/2 sub and salad was $13 and the salad was huge (i love Salads) and the Philly-cheese sub was warm and crispy with onions, peppers, meat and cheese..yum! They need two servers and one remain behind the bar. Pizza was undercooked and they didn't give up plates To put the pizza upon Texaco asked a server a question. Twice I got just a minute. Omg! This is truly incredible place! We ordered pizza- caprese pita bread-tiramisu- banana cake. All incredible! Pizza was thin crust and nicely baked, definitely very close to authentic italian restaurants! Caprese pita bread came with chicken tomato and mozarella- so tasty, full of flavor and filling! Tiramisu was the first one in a restaurant that i did not regret ordering! Definitely authentic but also relaxed ambiance! I did not try the banana cake but it disappeared from the plate very quickly so i assume it was great. Overall stop by and try definitely worth it!! P.S. They are now on Wells road. . I was a little disappointed.my wife had the Philly steak a minestrone soup lunch special . The roll she was give was as hard as a rock. Her sandwich was not very tasty a she had to ask for mayo. I had the Italian sub a salad lunch special . The salad was ok I had the Irish dressing it was the cream style. The sub was ok but the bread was over toasted. My daughter had a small pizza with chick mushrooms goat and feta cheese it was good but not excellent. This place is one of my go to for pizza and wings, especially takeout or delivery. The BLT pizza is delicious, but even their cheese is very good. Lots of cheese on that one. Also, the wings are always crispy. When I get them delivered, I asked for the sauce on the side so they arrive crisp and they are so amazing.! But I've also eaten there for dinner and enjoyed their chicken Parmesan and my wife likes the penne à la vodka. The grandma's meatball is a big hit with the kids, it's enormous. I was looking forward to this visit because of all the hype about them reopening.. Tonight's experience was poor at best. My wife and I ordered separate pizzas. She ordered a White Pizza which was good, but not great. I ordered a Meat and Vegetable Pizza which was soggy and limp. It appeared to be made with pre-packaged ingredients instead of freshly prepared. The staff couldn't decide which table ordered what which led to poor service.. I visited Ale Pie House with a group of 4 others. We made a reservation online just to be sure we'd be easily accommodated on the weekend. There didn't seem to be a need to make a reservation based on the super low crowd level but it is nice that they have the option. The people in my group ordered a variety of things including house salads, pastas, and other appetizers. My meal was the chicken Parmesan and it was a large portion. The salads were pretty good starters for the meal but I was thrown off by the super, extreme sour pickled vegetables throughout the salad. I love pickled things but these were INTENSE and I did not expect to find them in a garden styled salad - not my favorite. Service overall was quick and easy. We did not run into any issues on this visit. Ale Pie House has been around a decent amount of time, I wouldn't say it is the best in town but it is a decent italian restaurant with a large menu showcasing pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, appetizers and more. read more

I ordered on Uber eats and I was a little disappointed in my order. I really just wanted pizza but they have a minimum order amount so I paid more than I was expecting. The pizza was good a standard slice that hit the spot. I got the kids spaghetti and meatball that didn't really have any flavor. The way it was packaged was also not secure and the sauce spilt over the bag. I also got the pita caprese which was very good although I felt the pieces of chicken were too big and the pita was a little flimsy. Overall an okay experience. read more

We went for lunch. We were greeted and seated right away. They have a nice variety of booths, tables, bar, and outside seating available. Our server was Tina who was wonderful. She was attentive and helpful. I ordered the lunch portion of the alfredo amd added sausage. Don't let the word "lunch" fool you it was a large portion. It came with 2 garlic knots. The sauce was creamy and the sausage was delicious. My husband and toddler shared the 14" Ale White Special Pie (ricotta, fresh garlic, mozzarella, romano, parmigiano, fresh tomatoes, and fresh spinach). It was so delicious. They both loved it and even shared a slice! The one thing we would have asked for next time was to have it just a little more crisp, but that is just preference. We tried the new location in Orange Park. The food was just as good as it has been for the last 8 or so years at the Avondale location. From the Cheesy Garlic bread to the pizza (regular crust and deep dish) to the chicken fingers our granddaughter got, everything was great. We had a large group (family) for dinner tonight. I think maybe 15 people. Our server (Stephanie) did a great job taking care of all of us. I had the Lasagna tonight. It was the first time getting it here. We usually get pizza but I wanted to get something different. I thought the Lasagna was very tasty and I love the meat sauce they have. It tasted like they used just a little bit of wine in their sauce which was excellent! I also shared a salad with my mom and wife. We LOVED the Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing! Wow it was delicious. My wife got something different as well. She got the Mediterranean Calzone. It was so big she only ate half. She said she loved it! We love Ale Pie House and definitely recommend them!!! Trying to find another place to eat lunch by Riverside and found this place. We were seated immediately as the restaurant was not that crazy busy. We ordered bacon cheese fries, meatlovers Chicago style pizza and bbq chicken pizza. We were surprised how large the servings were. One of the kids for 2 slices of cheese pizza with a drink which is one of their lunch special under $10. All of our orders were delicious and not greasy at all in comparison to some pizza places we have tried. The food was really good! We got the chicken Alfredo and the portion was huge and came with two huge garlic knots. I also got the bruschetta appetizer and it was fresh and delicious. The only reason I am giving three stars is our server wasn't very friendly. [Updating an old review.] The reasons I liked Ale Pie House no longer apply. There were unfortunate changes change in ownership/management or staff. The results eliminated the reasons I liked Ale Pie House. I thought I try it again, until I read the newer reviews. One review described staff mistreatment of a disabled customer with a service dog. I have a service dog now. Other places in Avondale and Riverside serve delicious food and the staff accommodate my service dog without any hesitation at all. The food was disappointing and didn't seem to be made with high-quality ingredients. Given the mid-range pricing, I expected a better overall quality than what was served. We were celebrating a friends 30th birthday and he wanted pizza for dinner so we came in. We were seated quickly as usual. It appears that they have gotten new menus since we were in last and the font is SO TINY with so many things trying to cram on the page it was almost impossible to read. I always order the same thing but for our friend who has never been there it was a lot for him. They do offer vegan cheese as an add on topping but honestly for the cost (i think $4) there were only like 10 pieces of the cheese that we could see on the pizza. maybe it disintegrated in the hot pizza open but it seems not like a lot. Lunch specials are so delicious and reasonably priced. There are different options and combos. I really like their house salad with their Greek feta homemade dressing. The service was great, but the food just left me wanting more? I'm not sure if I just ordered the wrong things or I was there on a bad day, but I just didn't enjoy eating here. I ordered the breaded mozzarella as an appetizer. While the cheese itself was good, the breading was grainy and would fall off the cheese. I feel like this issue wouldn't have happened if the cheese was fried longer. I had the chicken & avocado melt for my main dish. Again, I feel like it wasn't pressed long enough. The avocados were ripe and delicious. But the chicken was dry and the rest of the sandwich lacked seasoning. My husband and I came here for the first time a few days ago. We ordered the antipasta salad and two pizzas. The antipasta tasted good, but PLEASE chop up the toppings for the customers instead of throwing the meat and cheese on top of the lettuce. It was very hard to cut it up with a butter knife and took time to do so. I ended up asking the server for a steak knife. Toppings should be cut up in an antipasta salad and distributed throughout the salad, not slapped on top and uncut - so that was very annoying. The pizza was decent. read more

Ale Pie House is absolutely phenomenal. I've been once before and gotten pizza- it was good but not nearly as good as their entrees. I got the Ale Clams Pasta but they were out of clams so they substituted mussels- and I would not have it any other way! The mussels were incredibly tender and fresh, such a soft bite, and no fishy flavor whatsoever. The butter and lemon sauce it was in paired perfectly with sauvignon blanc. We also got the shrimp piccata and fettuccine carbonara which were both delicious. Everything about this dinner was perfect and the service was wonderful.
