Good: Love the location as it's across the street from Trader Joe's and Smart Final. I stop by for certain items such as produce, cheese, and charcuterie. They have great prices, and much cheaper than grocery stores. Bad: I wish they would bring back the self checkout option! The lines are pretty long now with usually one person working checkout. So unless you stop by when they first open, there's a long wait. read more

This has to be one of the worst Aldi locations in Orange County. The store itself is OK, but the staff is just awful and it starts from the top with management. It's a sad mix of poor attitudes and incompetence. They are incredibly rigid and unwilling to budge to help their customers, so if you have any issues, good luck trying to sort it out. The daytime manager with short blonde hair and trashy faded tattoos is particularly unpleasant to deal with and really sums up the experience of shopping here. I would avoid going here if possible, try one of the other locations before shopping here. Unfortunately, it's the closest store to me so I just won't be shopping at Aldi for now. read more

If I could give zero stars for the management here, I would. I've shopped at Aldi for a long time, but I had a glitch at the register recently where I was charged multiple times for one order. I ended up with over $400 taken out of my accounts for $200 worth of groceries. When I went in to get it fixed, the cashier Gabriel was nice, but the manager, Heidi, was a total nightmare. She clearly didn't want to be there. She complained about her shift change, acted aggressive, and refused to actually look into the problem. She looked at my receipt for two seconds, told me it was "my bank's fault," and wouldn't help me anymore. I'm a manager myself, so I get that it's busy during the holidays, but her attitude was dehumanizing. She had absolutely no grace or patience. If you shop here, watch your bank statement closely, because if they make a mistake, Heidi definitely won't help you fix it. read more

Bring a quarter if you would like to use their shopping cart. You get it back once you return the cart. It's a little inconvenient but their shopping carts are always available and never get left in the parking lot! : ) I wish I knew about ALDI sooner! Their prices for organic foods are the best in town! I shop regularly at Albertsons/Sprout/Amazon Fresh but the prices at ALDI for organic items are really affordable. Plus their Italian noodles, Italian meatballs and pasta sauces have better and "normal" ingredients compare to many others produced here in the US. Parmesan cheese is great too! Yes, I only eat Italian noodles/meatballs/sauces here at ALDI. Not to mention their coconut ice cream! Few easy to understand ingredients and actually taste like ice cream! Coffee creamer Barissimo have ingredients I can actually understand! Their vegetables and fruits are fresh and well kept as well. The only thing I don't like here is the meats section. The good: Overall still the cheapest prices in town Lots of seasonal variety of reasonable priced package goods (candy, snacks, whole bean coffee, honey) - including those imported from Germany Aldi finds aisle has surprisingly good deals The bad: Sometimes very long lines at checkout The checkers don't bag your groceries Still the cheapest prices on most goods especially packaged goods like snacks, canned goods, and many home essentials. A bag of potato chips that's always $2.99 here retails for about $5 in the supers. Breads are cheap but their expiration dates are short compared to supers. Their $3.99 sourdough bread BB date was 2-4 days away (check the trays under the one on top for sometimes fresher batches). The San Luis brand sourdough bread at Albertson's is $6 with BB dates as far as 7 days away. Egg and dairy prices are lower than supers. But you have to like generic non national brands to take advantage of most savings. My favorite fruit, mangoes, are now 89 cents compared to supers usually at $2 or more. Quality sucks generally this time of year for mangoes because they are shipped green from South America. But other produce like bananas and small avocados (80 or so cents) are super cheap. Also the tariffs have only slightly raised some of the imported goods. Meats are hit or miss. I have found some well marbled thin rib eye steaks for $10 a pound, but sometimes not. Their chicken prices are cheaper than the supers. I bought a whole chicken for $1.89 a pound. Bacon, pork ribs, and sausages are lower than supers. But youtube bkoggers have criticized their gound beef and other meat items. Their Aldi finds aisles are great, those rare finds from kids clothes, to low grade treadmills to kitchen appliances and seasonal goods. The best find for me were the bare root roses bought around March last year for around $11. The varieties didn't have much smell but they bloomed better than the ones from, Home Depot that I bought for over twice as much. Have also enjoyed their extra large place mats from a few months ago at $8 for four, laundry baskets for $8, less than at Wal Mart, and steel hydration water bottles for half off the supers. But don't expect these to be at Aldi, as they now have the seasonal items detailed better in some content creators on you tube. I used to love shopping here because of their self service kiosks. It was a fast way to check out especially if you have just a few items. But they reportedly lost a lot of money on customers that would not scan all their items- according to any employee I spoke to. So you have to tolerate sometimes very long lines of shoppers with many items. I had to put all my items back on the shelves and walk out. They have an unusual check out. The cashiers work quickly to scan and dump your items in an adjacent shopping cart. You need to fish them out and put the items in your cart, or your bag if you don't have a cart. It's little clumsy for some if two shoppers are fishing them out. There are a few homeless people that sleep in the alley beyond the pet store that sometimes hang out in front of the store. read more

No frills grocery store where prices are generally lower on a regular basis. They keep their costs down by having mostly generic items and not needing cart attendants. Carts require a quarter deposit, and you can only get your quarter back if you return the cart. They usually only have one cashier working, and encourage customers to use self checkout lanes. You also bag your own groceries. Overall, they have pretty good produce, and they are a steal if you focus on sale items. But even regular prices are very reasonable. They are usually well stocked in the mornings, but if you come late or on last day of the sale, they will be sold out of the great deals and won't provide rain checks, so plan accordingly. read more

This store is weird. Their checkout line is odd. They won't touch your shopping bag, like it has cooties or something. And the cashiers sit on a chair. Maybe the chair has nails on it because the cashiers don't smile. They put your items in a shopping cart next to them, you need to fish them out yourself all the while they are processing the next person in line. They push you and the cart out of the way. Are they in a speed contest? Your receipt will be handed to you, IF you are quick or they just drop it down and start scanning the next customer. Their prices are ok. We go for just a few items. This is my favorite place to grocery shop. It's always clean and fairly organized at this location . You have to be familiar with Aldi's though or you might be confused? There aren't as many people working like most grocery stores. You'll most likely self checkout but there's usually at least one person to assist if you can't. My husband and I save a lot of money here. I'm actually writing this before going in for some shopping. Oh! I guess I'm more of a closed minded American than I thought because I really don't like the German/Euro grocery shopping experience. First time at an Aldi and will be my last. The item selection was unusual and small. I guess Aldi fans like that but I like choice and I didn't like the few choices that were there. Also not a fan of the quarter requirement for shopping carts. I never carry change with me and I shouldn't have to be inconvenienced because Aldi doesn't want to pay for cart attendants - a task they easily could have any employee do. It's funny because I saw 3 employees at the front standing around but of course there's only 1 cashier and no self check out which meant there was a long line the entire 15+ mins I was there. Finally, the presentation of the store was off putting imo with items displayed in shipping boxes and messy aisles with items scattered about probably due to "low" amount of staff. I love Aldi, this location is good, neat clean, newer. I know it's not a store for everyone, but I definitely think it's worth a try. I eat healthy, lots of veggies and fruit, so that's what I buy most of. I have found that the brands are different from name brands but everything except saltine crackers, we have loved. Love the small size of the store, love the 25 cent cart program, carts are not all over the lot. Excited to see Aldi opening up, and it's interesting to find that Aldi is just around the corner of Grocery Outlet in Tustin with separate parking lot entrance. The shelves were nicely stocked, and workers continued to fill the shelves with goods. However, there were many brands that I wasn't familiar with. There were two STAR items in the shop: 1. $1.49 dozen cage free eggs - best price in town and limit 3 dozens per person 2. 50% off bread with short expiration date (4 days or less), discount taken at register The bread section had a variety of choices from rolls, sliced bread, brioche, and artisan bread; the regular price is fairly reasonable. At 50% off $1.79 for a bag of sliced bread, it's a sweet deal (less than $1 a loaf) to feed hungry kids or buying for a large party. Can't get better that that! Overall, the price and the feel were similar to Grocery Outlet; if you're shopping close by, can hit both Aldi and Grocery Outlet for maximum bargains. read more

I hate this store, starting with the robotic cashiers that have no personality, they never smile and always seem pissed off that they have to be there. They toss your stuff in the cart then proceed to toss the next person's stuff in the same cart before you have a chance to take your stuff out! They practically throw your change and receipt at you and rush you out like cattle. They act like they are doing us a great service by just ringing up our groceries. I used to go there often when they had self-checkouts, but they took them out and now they have 1 cashier or 2 on a good day, and lines going down the aisles. If you have 1 item, you're screwed because you have to wait behind 10 people with their carts completely full. The tattooed manager is a loud mouth who needs to train her staff on the importance of customer service. The prices might be a tad bit cheaper there, but I prefer Trader Joes or Grocery Outlet where the staff are friendly and engaging and seem happy to be working there and all the registers are open. read more

I used to love this store but it has been really hit or miss lately. I already knew they ran on a skeleton crew, however, it has gotten really bad lately. To the point where there is absolutely nobody upfront. So if your cart is full you will have to self check out with your 30 items and then load it back into the cart to bag it. Good luck if you make a scanning error as you push the button for help and there is nobody nearby to assist. Someone will eventually come from the back area after they get done stocking whatever shelf they were working on, but there is absolutely no sense of urgency. I'm not sure who the manager is but there is one employee who is quite rude. Female, 50s, short blonde hair. I know it probably happens with so many companies, but beware of buying the frozen sausage patties. My child been into one and write into a piece of a metal blade. This was the first time anything like this has happened so I chalk it up to bad luck. They have a great return policy, however, are you really going to run back to the store to return a two or three dollar item? The parking lot is huge, never an issue there and everybody is really good about taking their cards back and reclaiming their quarter. Third star is for prevention of door dings! I'd definitely give a higher overall rating if they could figure out the staffing piece and keep their shelves stocked. Love coming here for the deals and the variety of cheeses. Though I must say it was shocking the type of service attitude, this individual had. This is not the first time, but I was able to get pictures of her. I've never seen someone be so rude and inpatient to customers. The elderly man was dismissed by the blonde short hair lady. She was bothered by questions and not helpful. Used a very harsh tone. I took pictures and maybe management can do some coaching on how to treat your customers. Good store to shops at. I like coming weekly to see what ALdi finds they have. They sell produce, frozen foods, fresh bread and alcohol as well. They always have good deals on their eggs. Sometimes it is less than $1 for a dozen. I'm really into their frozen chicken breasts and when you air fry it tends to taste like the chicken breast from a chick fil a sand which. This location has self checkout so it's really convenient. Staff is quick with restocking and cashier check outs. They can do price checks and price adjustments all in one and they are pretty fast. However, during our trip tonight, we noticed that they took advantage of the situation with eggs to double the price of eggs overnight. I just recently started shopping at ALDI because my local grocery store has become quite expensive and I was looking for an alternate store to shop at. Well, ALDI has a good selection of produce and some are cheaper than your typical store. Some of their generic brand are much cheaper too. You just need to shop for the right items. I just LOVE ALDI! I had never been to an Aldi before it opened here on Newport Blvd and was told by friends how great it is... so glad I checked it out. For those who don't know, Aldi is owned by the same company as Trader Joe's and the concept is similar. There are great deals on fresh fruit and vegetables, today I got a bag of Cuties for $2.50, a nice bag of green beans for $2.75, large bag of Bartlett pears for $4.35 and some tasty "Aldi" brand calzones that are found in the produce section for $2.50/each. I feel the produce is even better and fresher than Sprouts. I adore the bread aisle and they carry imports as a regular staple... Brioche and these Croissant Buns that are made in France and are a little taste of Heaven! I love the whole grain bread and it's always been fresh and hearty. The Aldi brands of sauces and condiments are signature and tasty- again, think Trader's style... little touches that are internationally inspired and offered at great prices. I love to check out the "Aldi" specials on meat and today got a whole Butterball Turkey for $7 and a Chuck roast on sale for $11. The frozen foods are also like Traders and they have some cool, heathy options that make life and eating good easy. There's always a couple of sales in the frozen section and I find myself stocking up when I see them. They have these frozen Pretzels imported from Germany and gosh... they are at a different level of yummy!!! Three layer gelato was on sale for $2.20. Today I spent $120 and can't believe the haul I got! They have cute holiday items also and today picked up some heart shaped cheese, pop tart Valentines and truffles. Cards are $1.50. The cart thing isn't so bad, just bring a quarter-return your cart and get it back. You can self check but there are checkers too... you do bag yourself which I like. I came here to check it out after the crowd dies down. Came on Friday 11am and it was dead. I will still get my groceries at Walmart in Irvine but if I don't feel like driving, I would come back here again. I recommend coming during quieter hours to explore & get to know the cart quarter system. They are well stocked and the groceries looked fresh. I really like that they have a sale/clearance section of seasonal goods or of home goods, I was able to snag a Sequence board game for $9 instead of $14 elsewhere. Lots of new brands I've never come across & familiar brands. Pricing is close to Walmart groceries but Walmart is still better in terms of wide range of groceries. I was in the area decided to stop in and grab a few things, we'll never go again. Wait 15 minutes in line. They have about eight self checkouts but at 7:30 on a Friday none of them are open. So I had to sit in line today while there was one check stand open, and there was a security guard there literally leaning against a self check out on her phone the entire time I was in line.. not sure what is the point of having security if you're not gonna allow your customers to use the self check out registers. In my own opinion, the prices at the store it's not worth the customer service they provide. I'd rather spend a couple dollars more and get in and out of the store read more

Aisles are wide, they are fully stocked, and you could never tell that we are in the middle of a turkey shortage because the freezer bins were full of them. The set-up of the store is a bit different than most, but they will work that out. The very first thing you see is the produce! My fave, but I'm used to walking to the back for it in older stores. read more

The market is very competitive. Where we live there is Smart & Final, Trader Joes, Grocery Outlet, Whole Foods, Albertson's and Ralphs, plus Aldi. So, with all of that all within a mile or two of each other, you need to be better than everyone else. For Aldi, it's just harder to shop there. Whoever thought it was smart to require a quarter to just get your shopping cart? What a dumb idea. So, you have to figure out how to get a quarter and then return the cart to get your quarter back. Why? So, they don't need anyone to chase after your cart when you are done. Essentially, a non competitive way to make it harder for you to shop there. Way to go Aldi as this is how you differentiate yourself in a negative way. It doesn't even generate any revenue for them. Just makes it harder to shop there. But, after that, I smiled at their thinking. They have no baskets either. So, if you don't want to engage with their shopping cart policy, you have nothing. No small basket to carry around for just a few items. WHO DOES THAT? Every market you go to has a small basket to carry around. Not Aldi. Somehow you either have a quarter and agree with their cart approach or just nothing at all. So, we just bought what we could carry in our hands. Just super dumb. After that, there is just nothing compelling about the rest of the store. Nothing unique or special (like Trader Joe's). So, why bother go through the effort? Finally, when we checked out, no checkers either. Just self check, which is fine. But, I'd like a choice. read more

I've been hearing so much about Aldi, so I was excited to check it out of the first time. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with my first visit. Although the exterior of this newish location in Tustin was nice, the cleanliness overall inside left more to be desired. Boxed food products were damaged/crushed, the layout & general "flow" was confusing, produce & other items seemed carelessly tossed around, & some of the employees during this visit were not very friendly nor helpful. I found myself just wandering around aimlessly...& then walked out. Maybe I visited on an "off" day, but it was a bit of a disappointment. read more

I am always on the hunt for Vegan Only choices. I am looking for really good tasting Vegan Food; not just mediocre.

I have been coming to this location ever since they opened. I usually use do the self-checkout rather than the regular check out due to change of policy of items required for self-checkout. I am very diligent about my grocery bills. I bought produce that was pre-packaged with the price already weighted out. So I know what I should be paying. However, when I finished checked out checked my receipt, I realized they over charged me when scanned! The price was different than what is stickered on the packaging. I let the employee know right away that they over-charged me. I did not want to wait in line again for few cents refund. I just want to let people know that obviously they do NOT calibrate their scale or they know they over-charge on purpose! When I calculate my grocery bill, basically this Aldi over-charge me close to 10% over! That tell me for every second customer comes in and buy any product weight by the pound they get charged 10% extra! Is this where should your hard earned money goes to!? They are making extra Millions yearly with this kind of practices! I am actually livid about this! This definitely need to report back to the Corporate office! read more

I really like the Tustin Aldi store. I really do. It can be a bit quirky but as long as you know what you are getting into, it's all good. I find myself going to Aldi first with my shopping list to see what is available and what is not. I will then go off to the other stores to pick up whatever Aldi didn't have or didn't have in the right size/flavor/quantity/brand. I wish that I could give them a 5-star rating, I truly do. But I can't for the following reasons. Their lack of selection overall and things that are there and then gone. Their prices are fantastic on what they do have overall, which is why I go there first. Whipped cream cheese, 8oz tub. About $1.00 cheaper than Albertsons or other local markets. Same for Mexican Crema. Their house brand chips are under $2 for a standard bag size. It can be cheaper at the other stores if they are using them as a loss leader, but for your day to day, Aldi has the best price. I find that every bag that I fill with groceries is $5-$10 cheaper per bag than the other big-name stores. I usually shop and get 6-8 bags worth so I'm sure that you can see that is a significant savings for me. PRO-TIP- Their frozen pizzas are outstanding as well as their flatbreads and their prepared items like Hawaiin Chicken. When you first walk in the store, look to your immediate left and you will find them right there. I got tired of Friday delivery pizza being $60 for two extra-large pizzas. These pizzas are huge and only about $8.00 each. I might throw a few extra items on them before I get them in the oven, but by choice, not necessity. Be sure to bring a quarter to unlock the carts (or ask the cashier for one if you forgot) and get to shopping. They won't have everything or every brand, but they have more than enough to make this your first place to shop when you need to.
