Generally love Aldi but this location is small. Parking is really tight so just be careful if you have a large suv. It's kind of hard to get in and out of the parking lot. I have come during peak hours especially after work and the lot gets full fast. The store itself is pretty clean and new which is great and most items are in stock which is wonderful especially for the weekly deals! There's more self check out stations here than other Aldi's. I'd come back here in a pinch just due to parking. read more

New location of Aldi that replaced a Rite Aid. It's not easy to get into and out of the parking lot, depending on which way you're going. And it's not a huge parking lot either, so peak times will be a challenge. I'm used to Aldi, because there are 2 not far from my house. This location probably gets really busy, because I don't think there are any nearer than Mira Mesa. When I went to this one on the way home from work at 4pm, it was really understocked on a lot of items. Aldi primarily stocks early in the morning, so late at night can be limited choices. This location us newer, so it has self-checkout primarily. Neither of the locations in Escondido have that, so it was a change from my normal routine. But I've been to a few locations before that utilized it. read more

This is a fun store. They offer a wide range of options for you to choose from. Stuff you could not find anywhere else in San Diego. The price points are most favorable, and you can buy small amounts; the exact opposite of Costco. A fan for your bedroom, perhaps, or a heater for the living room, butter, cheese, or milk, all lower than most places. They have a wide variety under one roof, lots of good parking, friendly staff, and unique food items too, for you to choose from all over Europe. Such a simple location. It's not the largest and it's absolutely doesn't carry a ton of products as others but it's always bustling. Came here on a Tuesday at 2pm. It was good energy for it being the middle of the day. But with that good energy, a lot of products I was looking for was out and they either hadn't stock them yet or they had to go back in the back to grab them. One of the aisles that was home goods and seasonal products were completely out. They brought out the boxes to restock but they were still wrapped up. Store was super clean other than that. Half the employees were great. The other half just seemed overwhelmed. It was quite odd. Parking lot wasn't great. Didn't check the back. Maybe there's more there? It was a miracle I found a spot. It's a small one, but it is stocked really well. I like the one in La Mesa a little better. The parking here is completely bananas. I get anxious just thinking about it. It's ok if you are in the area and want to grab a quick bite, few yums, whatever is working for your mood. I love ALDI, it's a cool place to grab some really yummy stuff for a good deal. I had a good visit at this Aldi on Balboa Ave. in Clairemont. The store was well stocked and the employees were friendly. I was pleased that they had almost everything in stock that I wanted to get. I picked up frozen Ahi Tuna steaks, hummus, love their hummus, organic multi-grain tortilla chips, fresh garlic, cheddar cheese slices., and among other things. All prices were very competitive and affordable. I check out at the register with a real human. It all went very well. The parking lot is smaller than others I have visited. read more

I miss shopping at Aldi's from when I lived in the Midwest. I was pretty stoked driving by this location while in construction for what seemed over a year!! Back in the day, Aldi's used to be cash only. I was surprised they now took debit/credit cards. I am so happy for that upgrade!! Aldi's offers groceries name brands to other unique brands we're not used to. It's a nice perk to hunt for something new and different. Aldi's is a smaller grocery store. They offer fresh produce, meat selections, dairy products, cereals, teas, coffees, breads, pastas, candy, drinks, frozen foods and much more!! Like any other grocery store, they have weekly ads so check that out for your discounts. Yes, their prices have gone up. You might be able to pick up something cheaper especially if it's on sale at a larger grocery store. However, I believe every single grocery prices have gone up!! You'll have to choose the items that fit your budget. Aldi's uses a quarter system for the return of their shopping carts. All carts are daisy chained together. A quarter releases one and returns the quarter when you put the chain back in. Cool concept to encourage shoppers to return the carts!!! Overall, a nice small store with ample inventory. A shared parking lot with other businesses. The parking situation can get tricky during peak hours!! Oh! The cashier scans all your food items. They do not bag it. I love Aldi, as long as I have a quarter to spare. The prices can't be beat and this location is pretty clean. The produce section is often missing some stock, but I am able to get the basics I need. I especially love the imported chocolate options they have to offer. I get this dark chocolate bar that is just so smooth and delicious, not bitter, but not too sweet. Definitely something I always stock up on when I make an Aldi trip. read more

In the first place they have a cart corall that you have to put a quarter in to gain access to a cart. REALLY??? Who carries a quarter with them unless they expect such an ordeal. My guess is that you get your quarterback once you return the cart . Still I don't like it i almost walked away. I did need some vegetable juice so I felt I could go in get the juice and look around. I didn't believe the prices were low enough to entice me to be a regular. Don't worry grocery outlet.They won't be stealing this customer from you One redeeming quality they had is that they had chocolate bars with chili and some with raspberry. I didn't know the brand, and they were a bit more than I'd pay at a discount store and since they didn't have vegetable juice, I walked out empty handed. I used to come to aldi for the cheaper prices.But it's not worth it.If the products are terrible. I will never come here again because I have bought a fan that cost forty dollars a big industrial style fan. IF I bought it at home depot, they last me five years.I bought it in august.I tried to return it with a copy of the.Receipt in november and they refused because they said it was past the ninety day.Electronic products window. There's never enough people working here.Their service is terrible.I recommend not to come to this store or any Aldi stores. I'll pay a little bit more if I go to food for less or to my local produce.Stand but at least that will give me good service and they would treat me with respect and realize that their product should last more than 90 days. Prices are much more affordable than Vons across the street. They carry the staples that I need for daily essentials. So glad it's open now! :) Pro tip: don't drop in after 7PM expecting to find what you need in the crispers. They DO sell out of vegetables and fruits. I don't see what all the hype is about. Shopping here feels like looking through items at a thrift store warehouse. The prices on many items are no better than other discount-style grocery stores, such as Grocery Outlet, Walmart Neighborhood Market, etc. Perhaps if it were closed to home I'd re-visit, but it's not worth going out of your way for. read more

Don't waste your time! Always out of items. Checking stock online is a sad joke. This place never seems to keep their store stocked with basic items. Even if you check online (for the particular store) and it explicitly states, "MANY IN STOCK", don't believe it. I went there today after confirming online the item I needed was in stock. When I got there, I was greeted with an empty shelf. I asked an employee about the discrepancy and they went to check to see if the item was in the back. No luck. I guess in Aldi-speak "many in stock" actually means "don't waste your time we have no clue whatsoever" Never had this problem with Ralph's or Von's, so I guess I'll be giving them my business from now on. read more

Well came here to see how it compares to the others and this is very similar to like a Smart and Final store . It gives me that same feel . Carries what all other grocery Store have but this location is located on a corner of Balboa and Genesse and as for Service it was busy and the associates were busy stocking the shelves and did not really attempt to ask if I needed help . Well there is an Self Checkout and I just walk around and as for prices here it is decent and some things are really not that low but overall I shall return and hopefully it is not as Crowded and the service hopefully improves !! read more

Avocados 49 cents, bananas 29 cents per pound, and mangos 99 cents. These are the pieces of produce that stood out price-wise. I don't know if these were sale prices, but I didn't see a sale sign. Much of the produce comes packaged for bulk purchase. I thought the Vons nearby might be in trouble, but they will be fine, even though they switched to compostable produce bags that don't keep the produce fresh! Get there early because lots of people shop there for their good and comparable pricing versus Walmart and Costco. Although limited in the selection and variety because of the limited space, we always find mostly if not all we need for the week. read more

WECOME ALDI TO CLAIRMONT! Aldi opened their new store on the corner of Balboa and Genesee today, November 21, 2024.. Been looking forward to this because I'VE GROWN DISSATISFIED WITH THE NEARBY VONS. The new Aldi was sparkling clean and the shelves were fully stocked with all kinds of interesting items at attractive prices. The store was full of shoppers, as lots of locals had been looking forward to the opening as well. I wish the store was 3x larger. Also, I expect my groceries to be bagged - and the bags need to be at the end of the line, not towards the beginning. Other than that, I was very happy to finally have an alternative to Vons, Target, and the 2 large Asian markets nearby. Let's see if they keep up the inviting smiles and cleanliness. I'm very thankful Aldi is now an everyday choice for me. read more

We were super excited to have an Aldi nearby and the selections are definitely an 8/10. Can definitely find decent priced produce, meat, bread, etc. But, unfortunately we will not be coming back. To whoever is the manager at Aldi you need to really train your employees especially this one lady who has the worst attitude ever. She truly made this store a 0/10. For a new store with tight quarters, the staff are certainly doing their absolute best to accommodate people in such a busy area. Kudos to them all for their patience and hard work (mind you this isn't the most pleasant part of Clairemont). The prices are fair and you will occasionally find good sales and great things in the Aldi Finds section. There was a particular situation where the cashier was doing their best with a family that was trying to use their WIC card. He did his best to help, but Aldi didn't have WIC (if they did, there would be signs on the doors and windows as you enter). Despite the family giving an attitude and acting rude (understandable that they were frustrated, but it wasn't the cashier's fault), the cashier was so kind, apologetic, and did his best to help them with their remaining groceries. The assistant manager is also a quick paced but helpful to the customers, always resourceful to help people learn about where the items are located and how things work there. To anyone that has complaints about the staff, if you treat these hard workers with respect and kindness, you'll receive the same. Even when customers are frustrating (not just for the workers, but to other customers as well), the staff here is still amazing. read more

I was excited when this Aldi finally opened. They have good prices on some items. My biggest complaint is that the self checkout is 15 items or less and every time I go there are shoppers with full baskets using self checkout. No employee monitoring this. Take down the 15 items or less sign if it won't be enforced. Plus they only had two self checkout registers open and both women had at least 30 items. They also run out of items, especially produce by 11:00 am. Not as convenient as I hoped it would be. I'm still shopping at Vons. read more

Watch out the food sold was spoiled. Cashier was rude and shamed me. I was only reporting the issue and a possible replacement . I had proof of purchase. Quite uncomfortable situation, Wasn't going to go there just for that, so I waited my next trip for it. No replacement or refund was provided. Didn't feel like arguing over it, thought it was a formality. She needs training and some courtesy training she had no clue and didn't seem to care. Great job! Won't go back. LOVE ALDI's. HATED the way I was TREATED. Me and my fiancé are a young couple and I happen to also bring my autistic teenage younger brother with me. Due to my anxiety, I usually go to the self checkout line to avoid any panic attacks. At self checkout, I like to organize my cart so that bagging would be simpler (boxes, meats, canned foods, breads, etc.) HOWEVER, my family and I were rudely accused of stealing by an older lady with glasses and short white/grey hair; giving me a major silent anxiety attack. I understand that my autistic younger brother can look suspicious at times, however I found it extremely disrespectful and degrading. This situation could have been handled in a less humiliating and more respectful way. Never had this issue at any other Aldi's. Not coming to this Aldi's location again. This location is not anxiety or autism friendly. read more

Beware of the older female cashier, glasses, who sits at the register. She kept yelling at people in self checkout if you had more than 15 items. When it was our turn, we had exactly 15 items but she still kept yelling at us (I counted around 8x). It was truly demeaning and my family wanted to leave our groceries behind and just walk out. I love Aldi. I would make a detour to the store anytime I was up in the Mira Mesa area. When I found out they were opening one on Balboa. I was beyond excited and kept watching for when it would open. Sadly, it's a terrible store the aisles are always empty, it's hard to get in and out of the parking lot and their customer service is awful. They had a sign that pineapple was on sale, but when I went to the checkout, it rang up as a higher price. The girl told me it had expired the day before, instead of giving me the sale price since the sign was still up. She expected me to pay the regular price. I have been chastised for going through the self check and being told it's for 15 items, I had 12. I have been chastised because I left my bag in the shopping cart and was scanning and then putting the items into the bag. I have seen them shame other shoppers as well Unfortunately I'm gonna have to go back to the Aldi in Mira Mesa. The shocking part is that Aldi and Trader Joe's are owned by the same brothers. This store has extremely rude customer service. The first time I went about five employees completely ignored me when I had a question. There was a older lady at the register that sitting on a chair and she completely dumped all of my groceries out of my bag and started aggressively scanning my items and then told me to hurry up when I started to bag my items. I assumed that the employees there were just having a bad day that day and decided to go again two weeks later and unfortunately I was met with the same hostility and aggressive behavior as before. I read raves about Aldi for years before we had the stores in San Diego. Prior to the pandemic, we finally were able to shop at an Aldi for the first time while on a wine-tasting trek to Temecula. We liked what we saw and bought a few things. I continued to read glowing reviews and insider tips while waiting a long time for the Aldi to open on the corner of Balboa and Genesee. Recently, I made a list of all the current specials, loyalist favorites, and regular Aldi products I wanted to try, and we eagerly ventured to the Clairemont store. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement. We found none of the specials, only 1 or 2 of the much-touted Aldi staples, and only 1 common item on my list -- a plastic bag containing about 1/4 of the amount of "fresh" cilantro typically offered at Vons or Ralphs. Plus, the vaunted customer service couldn't have been worse. When I asked a passing employee where I could find a certain item, he pointed toward the other side of the store and kept walking (we never found the item). Because the only other employees on the floor were checking people at the cash registers, I called to a couple of guys stocking stuff in the back and asked if they could answer a question. They literally ignored me, then one of them pushed a large stack of items through the swinging doors, brushed past me without a word, and set up right where we'd been looking for things, blocking access. I asked him where I could find something and without looking up he muttered that they were "Probably out." I never got the sense that anyone cared whether they did any business or whether new customers had a pleasant experience. Perhaps the new Clairemont store is the sad exception to the Aldi norm, but we won't waste our time going back. read more

She was very helpful and patient. She was helping me, customers who mistakenly would try to use the self checkout (like I did but had too many items).
