SHOP SMARTER This affordable supermarket's location isn't our go-to, but it still deserves some love. With Nichole C away for a long weekend, I had some grocery shopping to handle before she returned. Although the ALDI in Melrose Park is the one that normally receives our weekly patronage, I felt like mixing things up and venturing out to this Northlake spot on 12/7/19. Bold move, right? The layout totally threw me for a loop. Entry/exit doors were flipped and the whole store was almost nearly a mirror image of what I'm used to (that's not in any way their fault, though, we're just creatures of habit). Check-out was painless; the girl at the register was friendly and lightning fast. I also bagged my own groceries in record time. Overall the store was pretty clean, despite the people being weird(er than usual). Some crazy lady -- who looked EERILY like Mama Fratelli from The Goonies -- used her shopping cart as a discount battering ram on more than one occasion. She also spent a solid few minutes shouting to no one in particular about the cost of green beans. * TL;DR * I used to think ALDI was targeted at penny-pinching older folks, mostly because my only experiences at ALDI were with.....wait for it.....penny-pinching older folks. Now that I'm wiser and buying foodstuffs on a routine basis, I realize it's just more economical to shop here instead of, say, Jewel. I've little else to say about this location that's exactly 3 miles west of our typical store. It's not likely we'd come back again since it's well out of our way, but I'd recommend for those in the area. Not too shabby. read more

ALDI - This ALDI in Northlake isn't too shabby (though there's another one 3 miles east that's just as good) - Grocery Near Me - Northlake, Illinois

This is one of the Top Tier ALDIs. I went an hour before closing, yet everything was still stocked. Their produce is GREAT!! Usually when I go for an Aldi run, I get pantry items and basics but go to a jewel or supermarket for meat and produce. Any time I go to this Aldi, I knock out grocery shopping in one trip. They have all the good frozen foods, a variety of meat, the store is so clean and just has good energy. Everybody there is so nice and welcoming. Way better than Melrose Park and ESPECIALLY Schiller Park location. I filled my entire fridge and pantry for 100 dollars and I couldn't be happier. read more

First time at this location. You can tell it is an older store based on the size. Much smaller than the newer ones, but it is very clean and well organized. They do have a liquor section as well as organic foods, if you are into that. The selection of "finer" foods isn't like other Aldi's I shop at, but for the staples, they are good. They did have some speciality coffees that I snatched up and can't wait to try: Bourbon and Maple Bacon. Got a lovely rack of lamb there for $21 and it is making a lovely meal for dinner. Cashier was very nice as well as some of the customers. Had a lovely chat with a gentleman about Hebrew National Beef Franks (on sale for 1/2 price). Since it was a cold and rainy day, we were both on the same wavelength about chili cheese dogs, fries, beer for him and bubbles for me...comfort food for a rainy day. Produce looked good..bananas not so much. But I am not going to put that on Aldi. I have noticed of late at all of the stores (Jewel, Mariano's, etc) have something going on with bananas this year. This location is a little farther away that the other location on North near Winston mall, but it's quiet and I was in and out. Will stop back in for more rack of lamb read more

I love that Aldi, but for the past two weeks no heating at the store... Really Aldi and employee are working and me as costumer it is freezing just by shopping for 30 minutes and employees have to work from 8-8pm ... not nice Aldi so wrong .. read more

Remember when we were kids? "Why do you gotta be such a cheap ass, mom?! All the kids at school moms put name brand fruit snacks in their lunches! I want f%#*ing Gushers!" For many, those opposing feelings toward off brand products subside when you realize you need to save some cheddar. Albeit, there are some things from Aldi to avoid. For example, their frozen hamburger patties and produce sucks. And I'll always be loyal to name brands when it comes to things like mayonnaise. But most other things are fair game. I prefer this location over the one closest to my crib. They have a more ample selection and the store and parking lot doesn't feel so cluttered. And no, I don't need any bags today, unhappy cashier lady. I shall willfully let everything roll around in my trunk on the off-chance nothing breaks. Again, some things taste as cheap as they cost. But the fact remains. Overspending at Jewel needn't be with Aldi being an essential part of our well-calibrated schemes to saving money. read more

I worked for A&P and Nation Tea companies and know how a store should be run. This Aldi store might be a little small but I don't care- it keep the prices down. I think they are doing everything right and most of the time my bill comes out to less than I thought it should be. The place is full of treasures if you know what to look for. I really don't care for fancy building and special display cases- all this is overhead. I try and stock up on a weekly basis at this store- I love it. I always come out thinking I got a deal. What more could you ask for? In my interactions with the staff I have never had a negative experience so far. This place is a diamond in the rough. read more

My mom has been shopping at Aldi for years and I was never sold. The whole put a quarter in to get a shopping cart and having to buy grocery bags just weirded me out. However, this Aldi just opened by my job and I think I've finally become a convert. Being a brand new store, this location is spacious, well lit, and clean. I come during my lunch hour and it's always fairly empty. Best of all, it is DIRT cheap for staples. Milk is $1.99 a gallon and eggs, sugar, butter, etc. are equally well priced. They've got wine for something like $3 a bottle; I picked up a bottle of the Winking Owl Cabernet Sauvignon (aka, "the red one") but have yet to crack it open. There is a lot of processed food, which I don't really buy, but there's also a pretty good selection of fresh. I bought a bag of small, individually frozen salmon fillets for something like $6 that were great. I've never tried the produce (I go to Family Fruit Market for that), but my family swears by it. The staff is also shockingly friendly, which may wane the older this store gets. As I was buying my Winking Owl one of the cashiers told me conspiratorially "my friend says the blue one is the best" (referring to the label color). I guess when you're buying $3 wine you refer to it by color rather than varietal. I can work with that. Oh, and the 10 cent Aldi bags? Best bags ever. Mom really does know best. read more

Worst experience ever. Employee got in my way purposely and didn't move cause she was stocking had to reach over to get what I want. All 3 women were rude and not one person greeted us. Cashier did not move the belt until I put my cart full groceries out. Instead went to stock until I was done. Horrible. read more

This is a really nice Aldi. It's a newer one. It has a higher ceiling and has a higher class look / layout than older stores. This one sells alcohol and flowers -so it's the perfect place to stop for a "make up" gift for the missus! Ha! I jest -but on a serious note -going to a dinner party? The perfect place to stop for flowers and a bottle of wine. The bouquets are $3.99 each and are very, very pretty. The wine is all under $10. This is a nice store -it's close to work and I often stop here on the way to after hours events to pick up my libations. Cashier Janeen is a sweetheart and very helpful! read more

This Aldi is nice. It is never too crowded and people are friendly. The prices are great and the selection is actually pretty good. I have always been able to find most of what I need here. I appreciate the cleanliness and the ample parking. There Fit and Active brand is really good too. read more

A wonderful brand new clean Aldi Foods that is exactly what Melrose Park needed. I love it, the whole quarter in the cart is to cut cost which is wonderful cause the prices are great. Soy milk for 2.00 who can complain and it is good stuff and great products. Everything is good for super cheap and it is of quality. The only thing I never bought was the meat which I did see people buy the meat plenty of times. The fit and active products are excellent as well and I will keep coming back for more! read more

Clean, well organized store. Love the prices of course. Wouldn't necessarily buy produce here but a great place for snack items and beverages. Great that there's no funky Aldi smell as some of them have this weird rotting poultry stench to them. Nonetheless, not my favorite place to shop, but it sure impressed me enough to give it 4 stars! read more

This is my favorite Aldi. Clean, ample parking, and doesn't have that funny "Aldi" smell. Good produce, but sometimes got to pick through it. Meat's decent if you get the Tyson brand. LOVE the coconut popsicle! Oh yum! read more

Very nice Aldi. Cashiers are friendly and I just started going there because I was shopping full price before and yikes! my grocery bill was too high at name brand. Some of the customers are eccentric. I got to see an argument and once the police had to come out because a hobo was causing trouble. But mostly its old people shopping and quiet. I wish they kept their corn tortillas stocked. For that price they move quick. Green peppers were fresh and canned chili beans are a good deal.Onions were fresh and eggs are a good deal. The bread is good as well. Aldi had helped me lower my bills. I do notice a lot of able bodied people shopping and buying one / two piled high cart loads of food and paid with a link card, wish I could eat like that! Im jealous! (And yes they were shopping for themselves. I overheard them). Able bodied Mom and dad with a baby shopping around 12:00 a.m. They even had snacks and ice cream. But I am on a self pay budget and buy only a few items.Store is clean and please just stock a little more. Love you Aldis! read more
