I will say that I have noticed at different stores, the prices are drastically different per demographic areas. For example, I went to the store on Vets in Metairie and a family pack of chicken legs (drumsticks) was only $5 and some change. I went to the store in Algiers and they didn't offer the family pack of the same item, only 1/4 pack and the price was close to $6. I went to the Gretna store and their prices matched Vets prices. Very odd. In all the stores, I've been to, there's always one cashier and no self checkout stations except in Marrero. Overall, it's a pretty good place to shop for certain items but you're certainly not going to find your beloved Cajun foods or spices here.

Open daily, and you'll usually catch the same sweet older woman back there faithfully whipping out sandwiches like clockwork. It's something about that consistency and care that just hits different. They're under new management now and the space got a little upgrade, so I'm not sure if everything is exactly the same menu-wise, but my go-to has always been the one with meatballs--and I ALWAYS add extra pâté. That pâté? Don't skip it. The bread is exactly what it needs to be. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside... not too hard, not too soft. Perfect balance. He was kind, attentive, and informative, sharing his knowledge of how to cook certain vegetables and how his father had taught him to grow and strengthen social connections with the farmers to ensure high-quality crops. I bough an array of blueberries, cherry tomatoes, sweet potato, eggplant, and more. I also bought jars of apple walnut butter and blackberry preserves made by his wife and daughter. So, I went in today to ask if the greens are still $20 a case and he went off like a mad man. He yelled and said, "Ma'am, I know you never bought mustard greens here for $20 a case and I don't believe you just said that to me." With this loud and obnoxious voice, he kept running his mouth, so I walked in the back to talk to the more sensible person, his wife. I asked his wife and she said yes, they were $20 a case last year but prices have increased to $36 a case. That's all the idiot had to say. Everyone knows that Hurricane Ida all but demolished their establishment so prices were probably increased for repairs. A simple, prices have increased GREATLY from last year would've sufficed. But nooooo, he starts yelling at me, the customer. He ought to be glad I needed these greens for Thanksgiving or I would have just walked out. I accepted his apology but I'm never going back there. I ran across this cute little market called Rouses Market and I went in to grab some water. It's the cutest little market servicing the residential portion of the French Quarter and they have just about everything you would have in a typical bodega-style corner market. While looking for the water I ran across the famous Sno-Balls I kept hearing about in New Orleans and I had to grab one. The employees in the market were very friendly and showed me where I could grab my water as well and after paying for my two items I was on my way. Quick and easy. For those who haven't had a Sno-Ball in New Orleans-they are just wonderful and really do the trick to cool someone down when that heat and humidity team up to wear a person out. I really enjoyed it and wished I had found this market earlier in my trip as I'm sure I would've went to this great corner market more than once. Great little market.
