New block of cheese that Ashley refused to get and complained about it.
Juan D.

STAY AWAY from this place. Subpar customer service and Manager Elijah is truly a clown with no management skills. I go there because i live nearby and it is convenient in distance. Here is my experience from today. Picked up a few items as it was on the way home. At check out Gerard L took care of me and scanned the Passion Fruit pulp from Goya. It came up to $4.39 and it was $2.19. I know this is an issue there as the cashier do not know the difference between sour sop, mango and "parcha" (passion fruit). I told him the price was incorrect. He started questioning me and i said you can just take it off. He then left his cashier station and go get a price check. When he came back Jackie (liquor attendant/manager) asked him to not leave his station without letting someone know. At this time Elijah came to the register and started treating Gerard as an idiot and ignoring me. He adjusted the price but was seriously bothered by it. During this visit i picked up some muenster cheese which i love and eat regularly. I asked Ashley (deli and cheese department to get me 1.5#. She was having a bad day and told me they did not have it. I pointed it out to her as there was a new block of cheese. She then started complaining on who decided to put the cheese that far and hard to get. She sliced the cheese and at gave me a bit under a pound which was perfectly fine. I left the store a got home within a 5 min time frame so no chance of the cheese or anything going bad. I opened the cheese and ate a slice. The cheese had a stench and overpowering taste of rancidness. I took it back to the store. Went by the cheese department and asked Ashley if she could swap it. She said i needed to take that up with the Front Manager. I could tell she was annoyed. I asked her why couldn't i get an exchange. She said bc that meant she would have to open a new block of cheese and get in trouble. I went to the front and told Jackie. She gave me the order to go and tell Ashley to exchange it. See where this is going wrong. I went back to Ashley and she started giving me why she would not do it and why she would get in trouble. At that point i got a bit annoyed and told her that Breaux Mart procedures and discipline regulations is none of my business. I needed a pound of new muenster cheese. She asked me to go back to Jackie and i told her i was not an employee and that they needed to communicate and get a resolution. She went to Jackie and started having an argument on procedures and becoming confrontational with Jackie. Jackie called "the manager" Elijah. He came out and tried to figure out what happened. At this time i am wasting my time hearing what their procedures are in this scenario between them. I am very annoyed and told Eliyah to make a managers decision. Get the cheese or my money back. Keep in mind that i don't care for the money as it was $7.91. Eliyah started talking back instead of giving good service and telling me that they were not arguing among them. Ashley said she had never tried that type of cheese but she had a piece and it tasted fine and nothing was wrong. Eliyah opened the cheese and started smelling it. All of this over less than a pound of cheese. Eliyah told Jackie to give me the money and that was not the outcome i needed but was not going to waste my day over opening a new block of cheese. Jackie told Ashley she did not have to throw away the cheese. I guess to sell it to someone else or to keep it as proof for the "horrible top manager or GM" which apparently everyone feared. I assume this bc nobody will make a big dela to exchange the cheese and use a new block. The old one could be analyzed or tasted or use as justification for why they gave a customer such a bad time. Eliyah, you need customer service skills and Ashley needs to be less confrontational. This review may mean nothing to them but i will do my part so ppl are not treated w disrespect over something so basic. Again, stay away and go to rouses, whole foods, etc over this garbage of a place. Side note: Muenster cheese is very similar to a port salut, creamy, with a not so pungent and moldy taste. The cheese i ate was more on the stinky cheese, rancid and overpowering.

Its local. Out of all of the cities I have lived in, all of the states I have lived in and all those that I have traveled to, there are not that many local grocery, and this is one of two major local chains in the area. Impressive. This location could use a good cleaning, and the customer service could use a tweak or two. During peak times, they keep a careful eye on the parking lot to ensure no one is parking here and doing shopping at other stores in the area, which could be a bad thing if you park here, go to another store, and try to come back to pick up what you needed from here. Items are high quality, and each location seems to take on some qualities of the neighborhood it is in, which is nice, I always like that. I will come here if I am in the area, but it is not a place I will go out of my way for at all. For more information about all of the local stores and their history, you can read from their website. http://breauxmart.com/

RACIST EMPLOYEE - SHE HUMILIATED ME! Don't quite know where to start. I walked into Breaux-Mart on Severn in Metairie around 245 p.m. The store was not busy at all; three cashiers up front with nobody in their lines and were talking amongst one another. I walked past one of them on my way to grab my groceries; I gave a good afternoon greeting and attempted to comment jokingly about the "storm" outside (the media sensationalized utter devastation due to a tropical storm and said storm did not materialize) and not a greeting or anything was said in return. After I retrieved my groceries, I walked up to Aisle 5 to check-out. The cashier, as indicated by the attached receipt was "Jennifer C." Upon walking up, I gave a greeting to Ms. "Jennifer," who is African-American and nothing was spoken in return I attempted again to make a friendly greeting, thinking perhaps the COVID-19 plexiglass barrier made it hard for her to hear me, but no, she definitely heard me. In response, she made a smug facial expression. While scanning my groceries, she turned her head and continued talking to the cashier in the next aisle. This cashier was also a black individual. Apparently, my walking up to spend money on groceries in their store interrupted their non-work-related convo. Now, she was all giggles with that cashier, but 100% smug and expressionless to me. I asked her about her storm preps and she said nothing. I said "Is there something wrong? I tried to talk to you" to which she responded along the lines of "my feet hurt man, I'm tired and don't wanna talk" and mumbled something, but I was unable to make it out. I responded curtly with "how was I supposed to know that. You are not very nice to your guests." Without saying a thing, she turned to her other cashier friend and started talking and dismissively gave me my receipt. I then left the building, humiliated as the person behind me, a gentleman of Latino descent, was to my immediate left. She was not wearing a mask nor did she enforce the other guy to wear one. As I walked away, I could hear her give the Latino gentlemen and loud and happy greeting! I am a white gay man. I had a necklace that is laced with the Pride colors. I felt discriminated against based upon my race (white) and sexual orientation (gay) as she was nice and polite to every other Black person in the vicinity and the man behind me, but to me, she spoke with contempt. In this day and age of racial reckoning within our country, should it not be reciprocal for the Black Community to offer compassion and civility to other races in the same we all are expected to do? If the roles were reversed, I would be crucified to the wall and labeled as a racist. Why is it OK for a black person (Jennifer) to act in a way that makes someone (me) feel less than. I definitely will be referring this to their corporate office........It was very hurtful and disheartening. Ultimately, it was isolating. Why can we not bury the hatchet and make an attempt to move forward? I thought the point in this racial awareness we are experiencing was to start this painful conversation about the biggest cancer in our nation's history? ONLY THEN CAN WE BEGIN TO HEAL!!! WHY DID SHE SEE FIT TO BE MEAN AND CONTEMPTUOUS? Breaux Mart, I cannot believe you condone this behavior. I, an educated person, cannot in good faith give my money to an organization with racists like "Jennifer" in their ranks! PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!

Since I have been going there a long time I have seen the meat department change under a man who just retired after over forty (40) years to a really good place to shop for meat. The presentation was really nice and he treated you with respect and always had a smile and a Hello for me. Well, it's just been a few days and already It's looks like a mess. I asked to have a large roast cut in half and was told by Steve working in the meat department that I would have to come back when the cutter was there (???). He might but be a morning person but, really needs to do better. He didn't seem like he wanted to help AT ALL!! FYI, Be careful when buying the reduced meat. I didn't mind purchasing some in the past because the previous guy would reduce the prices low enough that you didn't mind if it had to be thrown out because it was actually bad when opened. Now, in my opinion, the discounted prices are simply most of the other stores regular prices. I may as well buy elsewhere and not be treated rudely when asking questions or requesting help. I will get fresher meat at better prices by shopping elsewhere. Oh Well, A good butcher does really make a difference. I hope he enjoys his well deserved retirement. He will be missed. In my opinion, the new person (Steve) needs to do much better in the meat department or more customers will opt to buy meat at lower priced family owned local stores for a better, fresher, tastier more affordable shopping experience.

I mainly go just to buy fruit but I took pictures of other things they had. It's more like a healthier grocery boutique by a German based company. I will say that I have noticed at different stores, the prices are drastically different per demographic areas. For example, I went to the store on Vets in Metairie and a family pack of chicken legs (drumsticks) was only $5 and some change. I went to the store in Algiers and they didn't offer the family pack of the same item, only 1/4 pack and the price was close to $6. I went to the Gretna store and their prices matched Vets prices. Very odd. In all the stores, I've been to, there's always one cashier and no self checkout stations except in Marrero. Overall, it's a pretty good place to shop for certain items but you're certainly not going to find your beloved Cajun foods or spices here.
