Hubs and I were looking for fresh homegrown tomatoes. The ones in the grocery store are tasteless…read more I checked Yelp and S&J Produce Farms came up. I read reviews and we decided to check the business out. The store is located near Clift Farm in Madison. Highway 72 can be rather crowded so be prepared to ensure stop and go traffic. The business is easy to find. It's across the street from the Target. We plugged the coordinates in and made the journey there on a Monday. Upon entering the business, two doors were open and there was a breeze. Against a wall there is a fan blowing so be prepared for dry eyes if you wear contacts. The selection of tomatoes was pretty good. There were red and green ones. We picked up a basket with 5 tomatoes for $8. The onions were fresh and we picked up a basket of 7 small onions for $3. I saw pickling cucumbers, bell peppers, okra, squash and more. The bell peppers looked old to me and I prefer my okra and squash to be much smaller. Outside there were some hanging baskets, $15 for 1 petunia or two hanging petunia baskets for $25. I saw a couple of ferns but didn't see a price. My experience here was good and I will return again soon.

*GROSSLY MISLEADING AND OVERPRICED*…read more Great location, unfortunately not what I was hoping for. PRODUCE IS NOT LOCAL--bought from a distributor--and is of average quality. Limited selection of produce that is prepackaged in baskets. They discourage picking and the man who slowly rings everybody up actually replaced some of my cucumbers with others he chose without asking. Everything is about 1-2 dollars overpriced. Example: $9 watermelons, $7 jams, $5 wilted turnip greens. Go to Publix or Wholefoods and pay less for organic. I'd also like to add that while the folks are friendly, they are clearly new to retail--disorganized, chaotic, inefficient and can't seem to handle more than 2 customers shopping at once. I'm shocked at the 5 star reviews on Facebook, BUT with every transaction they do give you a lengthy spoken guideline of how to give them a FB review.

Today, 9 May, at 2:45 pm I walked in to this business ready to spend $30-$50 on a bowl of fruit…read morewith my 2 twelve year old boys. As I was looking at the menu, the boys knew what they wanted so I sent them to the cash register to order. While they were at the cash register, one of the boys was touching a gift card display that was next to the cash register. The owner approached him and got really close to him and asked "are you going to buy one" and he said no sir, then the owner said "then don't touch it, put it down". We left and will NEVER return, Never. I would give a ZERO stars if possible. I'll drive to City Bowls in south Huntsville before going to this place, even if I just finished watching a trash pandas game. Horrible owner.

As a lover of acai bowls, I have to say I'm pleased but a little surprised at how many of them have…read moresprung up around here in the last few years. Playa Bowls is one such option, located near Toyota Field. I visited a couple of weeks ago for a quick lunch before going back to work and had a very nice time! The inside is tropical themed and very cute. I will say I'm ALWAYS hot and even I found it a bit chilly in there, but I guess that makes sense -- keeping all the bases (acai, pitaya, etc) cool and such. You order at the counter and employees call your name when your food is ready. Everyone I interacted with was perfectly pleasant and working hard. This particular chain offers a good many more combinations than many other fruit bowl competitors, which I think is mostly a good thing, though the menu can be a little overwhelming! In addition to bowls, they also offer smoothies and juices. Bases (in other words, the smoothie-like substance that forms the bottom part of a bowl) can be acai, mango, pitaya, oatmeal, or a green, coconut, or banana blend. Again, a little overwhelming, but fun to have so many options. I settled on the Electric Mermaid, which has a pitaya base and is topped with granola, pineapple, mango, kiwi, coconut flakes, and honey. Sadly, they were out of kiwi when I visited, but the employee was kind enough to offer to substitute another fruit or to double up on one of the fruits already in the bowl. I did double pineapple because it's my favorite. :) Overall, the bowl was yummy and well-balanced. All the fruits were perfectly ripe, not too mushy, not too cold, etc. It ran a little on the sweeter side thanks to the honey, but overall, I'd eat it again! There isn't a Playa Bowls particularly close to me, but I'd be happy to return and continue to try out some of their other combinations. If you're an acai bowl fan, I don't think you'll be disappointed here.
