It's essentially my "I need this specific thing ASAP" spot to shop, especially since it's open fairly late. Since I'm never here to do a full grocery run, it's admittedly hard for me to judge exactly how "well rounded" Shop 'n Save's options are. I'm very confident in saying that they sell more than the basics, but I'm less confident in declaring where it falls on a scale from "a bit better than the basics" to "an amazing and comprehensive store." I can say from my speed runs that the baked goods section is solid - and by solid I mean it's extremely tempting! They also always at least have basic produce options. I can't comment on the deli and meat sections as I haven't shopped for those items yet. I have, however, grabbed essentials such as toilet paper, bread, eggs, and milk with no trouble. (Granted I haven't popped in and looked for those items right before a snow storm yet!) All in all, Shop 'n Save is a decent shopping option for me, particularly because of their hours and location. I'm sure I'll be here again soon.

On Sunday, 7/26/2026, a deli worker told the other right in front of me and others that I COULD NOT AFFORD MORE THAN 1 PIECE AND THAT I WAS POOR. I said how rude she was and she tried to say she was sorry after trying to humble me in public. Up front I yelled so loud the whole store heard me and the front end manager would NOT bring the store manager to me. I'm turning them in for discrimination as I shopped there for over 40 years and only for their products their staff is horrible at least most of them.

It appears a nice sum of money went into sprucing this place up, but honestly, I do not expect an Aldi's to be pretty and have accent lighting. I liked the prices they way they were and the no frills that went with it. The updates did provide a larger entryway and smoother, navigational aisles, but overall I think it only created a bottleneck to the main arteries of the store. The produce and dairy sections are the most popular, but seems to have less space available for multiple shoppers. New isn't always better, nor is change widely accepted, but overall they still carry the same products I have come to love. I just have to look for them a little harder for awhile.

If I had a lot of bags I'd take the T home. I recall many a day getting a good aerobic workout lugging a 50 lb. backpack plus extra bags of food in both hands up that huge hill! I loved walking through picturesque Dormont Park. Our mother used to live near the top of McFarland Rd. so I'd often walk to Kuhn's for her and then walk back. Kuhn's is much smaller than some of the gargantuan supermarkets like the Brentwood Giant Eagle (which is now our home store) or Costco, but they have just about everything you need. Their seafood is fresh. I love their homemade specialty hoagies, so fresh and delicious. Shop 'n Save used to carry similar hoagies but stopped making them. At least the Carrick one did. Kuhn's deli is excellent. They are one of the few stores to carry the delicious Boar's Head brand deli meats. I like Giant Eagle's brand Dietz & Watson, but I prefer Boar's Head. Their aged provolone (picante - slightly sharp flavor) is wonderful. I must also mention Kuhn's ready-made fried chicken. It is my favorite out of all the various stores chicken. I have fond memories of shopping at Kuhn's. We still go there once or twice a month. Give them a try!

When I got to the register she said oh the chuck roast is on sale for 5.99. I said I didn't see a sign, she said there isn't one, you just have to bring it to the register and then we'll take it off. I said and how am I supposed to know it is on sale? she said its in circular when you walk in the door. Who reads those if you're not an avid Kuhn's shopper or if you're just coming in for a few items? The prices were no better than giant eagle. Not only is there such a wide variety of tasty food at the Whole Foods buffet, but you actually feel healthy eating it, and you can make it highly nutritious. You can get excited about the salads, or the roasted vegetables, or the orange chicken, or even that herb feta that you can quite frankly put on anything and everything. The way they make their orange chicken is honestly my favorite. I'm not usually someone who gets excited about orange chicken, but the way they do it here (it's just amazing) and hard to beat. I also love that I can mix together a bunch of healthy salads at once, and I really appreciate the flavor profiles and the freshness (it just elevates the whole experience). I'm honestly forever inspired by this place. It makes me want to look up recipes, learn how different flavors go together, and experiment on my own. It's as much a learning experience as it is a health experience. Anyway, I know it's not cheap, but for me, it's still really worth it. It's consistently something that makes me feel "renewed" so I'm going to keep it as a part of the routine as long as I can afford it. Another cool perk is that if you're a Prime member, you get 5% back if you use your Chase/Whole Foods/Amazon setup. And honestly, the customer service at Chase Bank is the best, and Prime is convenient, so it all just goes together; and while I realize they're kind of taking over the world right now (they are), they're doing it in a way that works for me, so it is what it is. Also, the kale salads (people really need to understand how good kale can be when it's done right) are nothing short of life changing and it can give you the inspiration you need to make it yourself. In addition to the hot bar, they also have specialty items I can only really find here (like Pacha bread, seed crackers, unsweetened coconut yogurt, broccoli greens, organic baby kale greens, and a bunch of other unique, healthy options that are honestly really exciting). That said, baseline prices are definitely high. For example, tart cherry juice at Whole Foods is literally around $14, whereas at Target (across the street) it's more like $5. So it's one of those things where you kind of have to go back and forth and be strategic about what you buy where. Let's face it, Whole Foods is not leading the world in cheap prices. Because it's pricey, you do have to be real and shop at other grocery stores when you can, but every time I go, I can't help myself from getting at least a little bit of the buffet food if it's open, because that's really where it's at.

They only carry Ultra-Pasteurized Organic Milk, which doesn't taste as good as plain pasteurized. The only benefit to Ultra-Pasteurization is to increase shelf life. Also, I recently bought a container of Cole Slaw from the prepared foods bar. The container was only about 3/4 full and the price was $9.47, which is ridiculously overpriced. The Cole Slaw tasted horrible, seriously, the worst Cole Slaw I ever ate. Lastly, I hate those yellow sale signs. They are so deceiving because you think you are getting a sale price, but when you get to the register, you pay a higher price if you are not a prime member. Ever since Amazon took over Whole Foods, they just aren't as good as they used to be. Meh, No Cheers!

The shelves are stocked (but not overcrowded) with this like, jellies, dried fruit, spices and seasoning mixes. Many of the items are bulk broken down into smaller packages, so not everything has all nutritional information. If you're counting calories, carbs, vitamins, etc. this might not be a good store for you. The store was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Bulk items, baking/cooking ingredients, pop, Lancaster chicken pies, ham loafs whoopie pies and more are available and always in stock. They also carry (one of my favorite things) Raw Milk! In addition to groceries, they sell decorative plants as well as garden plants along with outdoor furniture! And, as always, they provide fantastic customer service.
