I give two stars because of the bananas I recently purchased. It looked amazing from the top that faced me. I didn't know (until I got home) that the underside was dented from being pressed onto the edge of the corrugated box that it was sitting in. It must have been in that position for a while because the "dent line" was dark with a "sap-like" liquid leaking from it. In fact, some of it leaked onto the passenger seat of my car. I encourage ALDI to check the condition/quality of the products on display on a regular basis. Aside from this mis-hap, ALDI does offer extremely cheap prices overall. If you are not picky about came brands, this is a great alternative. For me, I'm good with buying non-named brand tortilla chips. read more

I just walked into my trusted local Aldi to find that they have changed everything. The sections are all in different places, I couldn't find a single thing that was where it used to be (just last week!) or where I thought it might be. I absolutely HATE when stores abruptly change the organization of their shelves and products, it is stressful and useless to the customers, and takes way more energy than it's worth to navigate a whole new arrangement when I'm just trying to get some dinner items after an exhausting day at work. Were the customers polled about this rearrangement, and for some reason all voted for it? Is it supposed to make more money for Aldi?? Or are they just trying out a fun social experiment because in the year 2025 they've got literally nothing better to do??? I hate it. I really, really hate it, and now I have nothing for dinner. I have been a regular customer of this location for some time and within the last four months or so the availability of basic products has gotten worse and worse. It is to the point now that I can no longer depend on anything ever being in stock that I used to regularly buy. I even went to the trouble of filling out their "survey" to let them know how bad it has become. I don't know if it's an issue of not getting supplied or not getting stocked but either way I'd advise trying another location if you still need to shop at Aldi or shopping at another chain altogether. read more

A frequent customer to this chain location. Sells produce, dairy, meat, and non-grocery, seasonal items. Food appears in great quality and smells fresh. A quarter to rent out a shopping cart and quarter is returned after cart is placed back. Plenty of parking in this lot. Next door to Best Buy, bank of America, 5 Below. Right next to the blue line train, and located between the busy streets of Belmont and Kimball. Also a bus stop. The downside is the aisles don't have category signs of items to purchase. Depending on the time of day, there are long waits and employee burn out. Sometimes customer service can be mouthy and often improperly placed or passive aggressively placed in grocery bags. Customers have to bag items, so be prepared to use stock cartons or bring own bags Plastic bags are 7 cents or for a bit extra for an insulated bag. I am late to the Aldi party but so glad I discovered it! I was very skeptical about shopping here, thinking that since the groceries were cheaper, it'd bring in more of a sketchy crowd. I live in Chicago and have a tight budget and regret not coming here earlier! It's surprisingly a large store with so many more options than I was expecting. I cook almost every meal of the week and tend to spend around $150 on groceries at Marianos, which lasts me 2-3 weeks. My latest haul from Aldi was only $80 and will probably last me 2 weeks! I loved bringing in my own bags [had to learn that the difficult way the first time but just bought some reusable bags at the checkout for future trips!] and being able to bag my products the way I want to. I love to make smoothie bowls and the produce is twice the size of other grocery stores and fresh! The only "problem" I had with the fruits and veggie section was you can't buy individual onions or potatoes, so I'll have to run to a different store for that stuff! They have so many gluten-free and organic options! I recently switched to pasteurized eggs, so I will have to go to a different store for that as well, but overall I'm super pumped to return to Aldi for my main grocery shopping trips! read more

I'd like to dedicate this review to the memory of my late father, a notorious skinflint who knew about Aldi's lure many, many moons ago and who suffered merciless fun-making for it. I'm sorry, dad. Were I able, I'd pick up some off-brand Whoppers just for you. This being my first voyage to Aldi, and the first day this particular store was open, I walked in and was immediately just a little skeptical. Things like Cheeri-ohes, Starmerks coffee... my brain flew into involuntary spasms of Simpsons references in stores like the Try-and-Save, etc. But lo and behold, inspiration. Cereal for $1.75? Coffee for less than $4? Frozen pizzas for $2? How is this NOT the dollar store? Where are the dented cans and week-old bread? How does this place exist and more importantly, how have I never known of its glory? I walked around the aisles admiring the fresh produce, packaged meats, various ethnic items, dairy, cheeses, cleaning products... mystified. Transformed. Sanctified. This is a much larger Aldi than I'm used to. It's pretty neat and organized, as far as Aldi's go. The thing that tipped the scales here from 3 to 4 stars is the fact that they have beer and wine at this particular location. The exact products they have vary somewhat with each visit, but you can expect really great prices and incredibly fast check-out. If you are worried that Aldi sells sub-par products, or some other negative trait: don't. Every Aldi store that I have been too has been great, and busy. They might be a little short on customer service, as the employees are usually just flying around rapidly filling shelves and coolers, or manning the registers, but really the store is easy to navigate and I've never had a bad experience with any of the products that I've purchased. Fruit and veggies are fresh and of good quality. The only thing is that the store is very no-frills: no fancy displays, for the most part no big-name brands, etc. Again, don't take that to be a negative thing. If you haven't shopped here before or were holding out for some reason, you should give it a shot. I'm sure that you will not be disappointed. read more

I love Aldi as a company, so amazing. This specific location, however isn't the best choice in the city or even the very immediate area. Trust me, you can see my Aldi list to verify my expertise. ] I used to always stop at this location on my way home from work, until over the summer when my car was tagged with a giant swastika while I was shopping. The location just a little bit west at Milwaukee and Pulaski has more of the Fit and Active brand food if you're interested in it, has more of the newer higher quality deli products and is generally in a little bit better shape. The prettiest Aldi's in town, and you don't have to find an empty box if you forgot a quarter for a cart--that's right, BASKETS!!! I was here today, the second night they were open, and got a lovely, HUGE, reusable cloth shopping bag. The only non-pathetic item I bought was a 17oz package of gnocchi for $1.79, but I assure you, there's plenty of gourmet stuff here! Oh Aldi, how I wish to loathe you. While I am greeted by super friendly people at your sister company Trader Joe's, you find it your corporate motto to tell your staff to be 1. Rude 2. Make no eye contact with customers 3. Heave items into the carts at checkout, including bread and eggs 4. Only speak to each other, not customers 5. Torment old people who wish to use the bathroom. 6. Try to force customers to "slide" their debit cards early before the total is rang up 7. Only have one lane open unless it absolutely necessary. And the list goes on. But I keep coming back because you are so darn cheap!! While some of the stuff you sell is not really all that great-produce especially, the pre-packaged goods? Same stuff as Trader Joe's in a different package. But would it kill you to tell the staff to at least acknowledge a customer who is staring the checkout woman in the face while saying "helllo?" Yep several times, I have been to this Aldi, said hello to the checkout person and no response.....she just yells to her co-worker. It is alike they don't see the customers at all. And my last visit the security guard, who I know works for a vendor of Aldi, and is not an Aldi employee-but still-was so down right rude to an elderly man who needed an emergency visit to the restroom after he was shopping. So Aldi has adopted the Walmart business plan, and we know how that worked out for them right? I'm not going to lie, I used to be a grocery store snob and thought Aldi was all prepackaged, high fat , high sodium junk food and nasty generic cans. Maybe it used to be, but it's not now. They have mastered keeping the prices low while the quality is still good. This location is new, it's clean and the employees are friendly. Now, they still have some of that high fat, high sodium stuff so you have the be kind of picky and watch your labels but honestly there are a lot of healthy choices here and the prices are fantastic! So, what's good here? Cheese Deli meat My little salad bar fixings Frozen shrimp Frozen berries Frozen chicken breasts condiments paper goods Produce is a little sketchy, usually good but you have to eat it relatively quickly. Dairy, especially milk doesn't seem to have much of a shelf life. So those items might be better bought somewhere else. Remember to bring your own bags, and a quarter for the cart (which you get back) and you're good to go! Besides, all the money you save can then be spent at the Discovery around the corner!! read more

Here us my history with Aldi. I went here the first time and was totally confused and thought I was in a weird convenient store. I bought a box if crackers And left. My coworker convinced me to go back after explaining the Aldi theory. So here it is: Aldi us owned by Trader Joes, so like them most items are their brand. Aldi products priced VERY low and most are much better tasting than leading brands or Jewel brands. Between Aldi and Costco I get all my groceries. Here us what us good at Aldi; Canned veggies Alfredo sauce in a jar Yogurt Enchilada sauce and the canned retried beans(really!!) Flour, sugar, honey, etc 75%fruit preserves Frozen veggies and fruit Their idea of a lean pocket. That being said. I still by meat, gourmet cheese and breads at Costco. However, I have had some good precooked chicken breasts and lunch meat from here. All in all, Aldi will save you TONS of money! read more

Aldi is owned by the same German billionaire that owns Trader Joe's and another large European chain, which explains some of the important commonalities that Aldi's and Trader Joe's share. First, both stores focus on offering products at low prices. Second, both stores provide private label or off-label brands of products, as opposed to the many familiar brand names you see in most American grocery stores. By offering only one brand of, say, cream cheese, instead of five brands, the store saves on shelf space, and, thus, rental costs, and the savings are passed on to the consumer. Aldi's is great for buying snack foods, although the selection of produce and meats is certainly adequate, it seems like the produce purchased at Aldi's tends to start browning a little sooner than produce purchased from the huge grocery chains. However, the produce at Aldi's is much less expensive. The W. Belmont location often has red bell peppers for sale at fifty cents a piece - a fantastic price. And they are all fresh and in great condition. Sometimes the price is lowered to twenty-five cents each. Aldi's also has two pound bags of clementines for three dollars, and usually has four pound bags of navel oranges for two dollars. The meat section has a fine selection of well-priced meats, although the meat section is where you find the most price similarities with the larger chains. So, again, I shop at Aldi's mostly for food items that I want to be able to store for longer times, and these items are all much less expensive at Aldi's. For example, I love the cinnamon flavored graham crackers that Aldi's sells for $1.70; these normally sell for closer to $4.00 at regular grocery chains. I also buy a lot of cans of chunky chicken noodle soup, which are roughly a dollar less expensive than what you find at the large grocery chains. And, to me, the soup I get at Aldi's seems to taste better. One thing lacking at Aldi's is the Fresh Market concept that has become ubiquitous at all large grocery chains. There is no deli section to buy freshly sliced deli meats from, nor are there freshly baked bagels or other sweets. However, there is absolutely no shortage of sweet things at Aldi's, and deli meats and cheeses are sold pre-packaged. I only discovered Aldi's two years ago, but now I do 90% of my shopping there. And the selection continues to improve, so the shopping experience should continue to improve as well. read more

i'll be the first to admit that aldi isn't the first grocery store on my list of regular shops to stock up on food items, but it has definitely saved me during extreme cooking emergencies. i'll go here and find myself impressed each time, particularly when i discover they carry a random product (today it was guavas!) or that i can purchase essentials for a teenth of the price at other grocery stores. the produce isn't the greatest (i find myself sifting through entire vegetable bins to find decent, non-banged-up goods), and for whatever reason, this location doesn't have whole milk..but you can't have it all, right? if you're like my family, and like to send boxes out to family overseas, or if you just like helping shelters or food depositories (especially during the frigid months), this is an excellent place to get a lot of canned goods and non-perishables at beyond-reasonable prices. and it feels good to help those in need! read more

I just love Aldi's. I grew up with Adli, my parents shopped there because we were poor and it was more affordable than all the other stores around. We lived in a small town near Joliet so we would drive to Joliet once a week to get groceries there. As I have grown up and changed so too has Aldi. While still true to their basic economic philosophy and quality standards they have expanded to meet the needs of a wider and more selective audience. A couple of weeks back I walked in to find the entrance aisle filled with new gluten free items. I have a very close friend who has Celiac's desease and has been struggling, since she was diagnosed years ago, to find foods that are truly gluten free. I was so thrilled to see this that I texted her immediately from the store blocking other shoppers! My in-laws live a far more privileged life and are far more selective about where they shop, with gourmet food shops, Whole foods and restaurants keeping them fed. On one holiday visit when they came to our house for dinner I secretly opened three cans of Aldi's New England Clam Chowder, heated it up, placed it in my china soup tureen ans served it with fingers crossed. They loved the soup, cooing about how it was much better than what they buy and asked where I'd gotten it. "Just a store int eh neighborhood" was my honest reply. Admittedly I am not a gourmet chef and only a barely passable cook, if that. Aldi keeps us fed with their many prepared foods like the Cranberry Almond Chicken salad, bagged garden salad, hummas and salsa. I like the great selection of cheeses, both chunk style and sliced. I threw a party and bought one of each kind of chunk, cut them in cubes and it was an awesome array. The selection of fresh fruits and veggies isn't as good as Chicago's various fruit markets but in order to eliminate a stop they have nearly everything and the prices are very competitive with the produce only markets. We are extremely fussy when it comes to meat. I shop at a real butcher and use their guidance in my selections and cooking. In the 50 years I have been shopping at Aldi the only thing that I have ever returned was a marinated pork roast (BTW they have a double your money back guarantee on anything that you really don't like and feel the need to return. How "we REALLY" stand behind our stuff is that?!?!). The sauce that they used was way too salty and for us was inedible. I steer away from buying their raw meats in general but do buy their fresh ground turkey and fresh ground chicken to use in Taco Salad or Sloppy Joes and it's fine. We have bought their packaged sandwich meats and they are a bit too salty for us. The flavored bacon (maple in particular) is really good quality and tasty. We get at least two pounds a week which my hubby cooks up on the grill all at once and keeps in a container in the fridge to add to sandwiches, salads or to grab and go. Their fresh bread section is hard to resist even for a non bread eater. The Onion rolls, though seasonal, are divine and the pretzel rolls are still competition for the ones at Costco and you don't have to buy as many. We often buy the garlic bread loaves to turn into pizza bread in a pinch. Which reminds me, they have fresh thin crust pizzas for $5.99 that are a great quickie meal to throw in after a long day then hitting the store on the way home. Some people find it annoying that they have to "buy grocery bags" but it does help to keep costs down and I always keep totes in the car for any stop at Aldi planned or spontaneous. Then if I buy more than I have totes for I grab a box and just toss it in the recycling when I'm home and unloaded. Also from chatting with the people that work there, they apparently pay their workers pretty well and take care of them. They all do all jobs and so there is no jealousy of one person doing all the easy stuff and another working their butt off. The hours are 9-9 so good for going after rush hour on a weekday if you have to work day. The stores that I go to (Belmont and Kimball, Pulaski just north of Lawrence, off Pulaski South of Diversey, Clybourn across from Menards and Clybourn South of Wisconsin) are all kept clean and well stocked. Living in the city is a blessing and a curse in that they tend to sell out of any great special items fast and that there are other stores to check if it is already gone at one. I like Aldi. I am probably catagorized as an upper middle class DINK and I do not feel that Aldi is "low rent" or "for the poor" as I have heard friends/coworkers comment. My response is always "Have you ever tried shopping there? I shop there all the time. That ____ you had at my house was from Aldi". Even if I were a Bazillionaire I would still shop at Aldi. They have what I like and I really like their prices! P.S. My absolute favorite item that they sell is the Chicken Corn Chowder canned soup .LOVE IT!!! read more

This Aldi is magical. Grocery bills miraculously shrink by 40% when you fill up your big quarter-fueled cart. The house brands here are similar to what you'd find at Costco, and are of equal or better quality than the national brands. Seriously, the ice cream is better than Breyer's and about 1/3 the price. The produce, spices and meats are top-notch as well. Just try to get past your brand-snobbishness and you'll be fine. The service here is fast and friendly, and the employees seem to actually like their jobs. Novel concept, no? Just don't forget a quarter for your big ol' cart, and try to bring your own bags. Y'all, this is my new jam. To say I was skeptical at first was an understatement - this Aldi is only a few blocks away from us and we avoided it like the plague because we had heard horrible things about Aldi selling expired merch and being dirty. And then one magical Sunday we stopped in because we were desperate for cheese to make baked mac and cheese and our grocery fate was forever changed - this Aldi is super clean, has tons of produce, and carries boatloads of organic goodies that cost twice as much anywhere else. This Aldi has become my go-to spot for produce and pantry staples. Our favorites have been their effervescent lemonade ($2.29 for a liter in a flip top bottle, which will be making an appearance at our Labor Day wedding), organic strawberry popsicles, coconut chia seed granola (recently discontinued, much to my heartbreak), and an ample supply of mangoes for $0.50 each. We generally eat tons of fresh fruit and veggies and not very much in the processed department and have seen our food bill drastically decrease since I made the switch from Mariano's and Trader Joe's (who Aldi owns) because their produce at Aldi is so much less expensive. I can't always find everything I am looking for (no strawberries today, rats!), but I am always happy when I check out and see my total ring up. Pro Tip: Make sure you have a quarter handy when you get there for your cart and to bring your own reusable bags. Also note that they accept debit but NOT credit cards. read more
