All of their seasonal produce that I've purchased (corn, onions, garlic, peaches, melons, cucumbers, tomatoes) have all been delicious. They aren't always the most organized on meat and the prices are a little higher on everything but you're actually getting local farm produce. (I've noticed a lot of places supplement with commercial foods for convenience and that seems duplicitous when they don't identify which is which!) My wife and I ordered the Old World Italian hoagie along with a hot roast beef and gravy grinder that was running as a special. While we waited, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and we took some time to browse their butcher case. Everything looked fantastic, and we ended up leaving with several packs of house made sausages that were too interesting to pass up, including a chicken crab cake sausage and a brisket cheddar. The Old World Italian was exactly what I hoped for. Piled high with Italian meats and cheeses, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers, and prosciutto, all served on a sturdy yet soft seeded roll. The meats were perfectly layered so every bite was balanced and flavorful. No dead spots, no overwhelming salt bombs, just a beautifully constructed hoagie. What I saw was disturbing. I am a white woman living in Harford County, Maryland, where the store is located. I saw an older white woman employee at the exit on the grocery side acting strangely. Specifically, I observed the woman approaching black customers and overly scrutinizing their receipts, but did not do the same to people of my race. The employee would violate the black customers' personal space and go through their baskets as if they were stealing something; the behavior was apparent. This continued over and over. When I exited, the same employee gave my receipt a cursory review and waved me on. With all of the tensions going on, blatant racism only causes more division and makes things worse. Walmart should be ashamed of itself for contributing to societal problems. If people do not stand up to wrongdoing and evil, nothing will change.
