Dave at Security Insurance is definitely a character. I moved to Boston in 2000, got a car, and…read moreneeded insurance. Called around, got several quotes, all sounded decent. I liked Dave though- seemed like he knew the business very well, and would not mess around or nickel and dime me.
Note to everyone reading this, Dave is a unique brand of friendly, definitely a character even for Boston standards. If you walk in thinking your new "best friend" will treat you with coffee and cookies, you're mistaken. You will walk in, he'll quickly want to know what you want, he'll give you a good deal and take care of you QUICKLY, and you're done. Don't even expect a "hello" or a "goodbye", ever. I found this treatment awesome. He doesn't mess around, which made me feel comfortable my insurance was in great hands.
Another thing, if you stop and try to make conversation, he'll talk your ear off. Hates the government. Hates lawyers. Loves plants!
What I really loved about Dave were two things. First, he remembers EVERYONE. Whenever I call, I swear he recognizes my voice or my caller ID number before I even speak. He often knows why I'm calling before I even tell him, and when I have a question, he gives me the answer quick. I think our average phone conversation lasts about 10 seconds.
I was horrible at paying my bills on time. Dave *ALWAYS* called me and let me know my insurance was about to be cancelled, and I was able to give check info over the phone to avoid a cancellation. Whenever I failed to answer the phone, Dave kept calling and calling until I answered. Talk about a guy who cares. In 10 years, I never had my insurance cancelled or any issues, knowing Dave was taking care of me. (Dave, if you're reading this, thank you!)
Ten years of insurance with Dave, and I couldn't have been happier. I recently moved from Boston to Austin, moved my registration, and his insurance is not valid for a vehicle registered in Texas. Sadly, I am leaving him as a happy customer. Sending the MA license plates back to Dave today, and I'm sure he'll return them to the RMV for me.
I have recommended Dave to many friends over the years, and all of them have been happy. Even one friend who accidentally let his insurance expire with non-payment from another company, and needed new insurance to get his car out of impound. Dave took care of him, granted he needed 1 year of insurance payment up-front, but he took care of all the paperwork and most of the hassles with the RMV, so my friend could pick up his car that day.
Dealing with MA car insurance can be a pain. I do recommend an agent that goes out of their way to help you when you need it, and I strongly believe this is the best place in the Boston back bay area.
