I've stayed here a couple of times now and can wholehartedly recommend this hoteI. I would emphasize a couple of features: the room size, the location and the spa facilities. The rooms are extremely spacious, even by European luxury standards (for non suite rooms). Closet and storage space is more than I've had in some of my apartments. And there is very adequate desk space with accessible power outlets for my laptop (the free wireless provided is good and fast).
This hotel is the sister hotel to the opulent and more expensive Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa located lesss than a 10 walk away. I had access to their spa and health club facilities. But what was especially nice was the ability to book a massage through that spa, but have the massage at my location. There is a nice room on the ground floor of the Alchymist Residence explicitly for massages. This made it very convenient. And the price of the one hour massage was not outrageously priced.
The location is excellent, not only because the proximity of the Charles Bridge, but also because there are so many of Prague's best restaurants nearby. Just around the corner is "The Blue Duckling" (U modre kachnicky) which serves excellent duck. One block further up the street is Café de Paris, a lovely casual bistro that serves a very good Parisian entrecôte (don't miss the frites). And for a truly exceptional meal, try Coda in the Hotel Aria, a few minutes away. Located on a rooftop, it offers the best al fresco dining with nice city views. And the food is London/New York City gourmet quality. The ambiance of all of the above fall in the category of 'romantic dining'.
The Alchymist's own restaurant can, on a balmy summer night, offers both good food and a romantic setting. Outdoors and across from the hotel, the nicely appointed candle-lit setting can make for a lovely and intimate dining experience.
One thing to be careful about is the confusion between this hotel and its sister hotel. Twice during my first trip car service drivers took me to the Grand Hotel and Spa despite my clear specification of the Alchymist Palace. One driver even had to ask a bellman where this hotel was located. Also, don't be put off when you drive up. The street view of the hotel, which is tucked away in a back street, is far from palace-like. Fear not, once upstairs in your room, it is opulent and comfortable.
