I'm sorry I didn't read the previous reviews on Yelp regarding Alberto's Jewelry Store. I brought my vintage Movado watch there last month and paid upfront for a replacement crown and stem. The next day the crown fell out and the stem could not be used to adjust the time. When I called to inform the store of my problem, I was told to bring my watch back for additional repair by the same "expert" who had failed to do the job originally. Then he hung up on me, having charged me for a service he didn't supply. A family member, who had been a customer of Alberto's for years, was present during this interaction. Today she no longer does business with Alberto's. Nor does anyone else in our family. The 2nd mistake I made was not calling my credit card company to stop payment on the repair charge. Moreover, if you want to purchase jewelry from this establishment, I'd take a jeweler's glass along to examine the merchandise. And even then I wouldn't buy it. Finally, anyone needing a Movado repair should go to the authorized Movado Repair Center at Willowbrook Mall in N.J. The Repair Center stocks all the original parts for Movado watches and offers two-year warranties on parts and service. I came in here to do a watch repair for my Citizen Eco-Drive. It took 15 minutes to get someone to come over to talk to me when there were 3 people working there. One which was actually working another talking to what seemed like a friend otherwise it was a bit cavalier for a customer. Once someone actually helped me i gave them the battery and they insisted I had broken it and that it needed an overhaul. The eco-drives have a pin soldered onto the battery for connectivity; regardless i told her I would just like a replacement battery and ill fix it myself. So I bought the battery which i was informed was the exact battery that was in the watch. While i was waiting for her to put through my credit card I read the packaging and it explicitly said that this battery was not meant to recharge and would leak acid if it was, the eco-drive is a solar powered watch! When i told her this she scoffed and said it was the same size it should work. I requested a refund and left. I don't think I'll ever come here again. There are so many jewelers around that I don't need to waste my time with people who either don't know what they're doing or care enough to do their job. read more

Should have listened to the reviews about horrible service. At first, things went great. One of the employees named Lori was fantastic. She sat me down and we went through different engagement rings and she was able to find the one i was looking for without being able to discribe it well. The best part was it came with a matching set and I would get to pick the main diamond so I went with them. I was thinking I was doing something good. I found the ring i wanted and I was supporting a local business. After proposing to my fiancé, she was looking at the wedding band and found a minor defect on it so we brought it back and they said no problem we will remake it. The first two attempts were not even close, yet they tried to convince us it was. After the third attempt it was about 60 percent right. When we said this both of the men working, both of the owners from my understanding, got very upset with us and said there is no way they will make another ring and that my fiancé was being too knit picky just like his ex wife...at which point I tried to calm them down but also explained that his ex wife has nothing to do with this. I also tried to explain they I paid for a set and that it was identical the first time with just a minor defect so it's hard for us to understand why you can't do it again. They explained that if they made it like the first time then the side stones would fall out. We ask then why did you make it in the first place? With no answer and them refusing to remake it again we left, with my fiancé in tears and me about a second away from going to jail. Moral of the story is don't deal with these d bags. They have no idea what customer service is or how to do their jobs. We were just glad they didn't touch the engagement ring to make it a matching set. read more

I visited Alberto's to have engraving done on three silver spoons. Two letters each on three spoon. The very pleasant salesperson said five dollars per letter. When I returned two days later, the bill was $300 -- $50 per letter. The engraver was unapologetic; the owner unconcerned. read more

Came in for a simple watch repair, to re-set a loose component. The staff was rude and discourteous and ended up scratching my watch. When I notified them of the damage, they lied and insisted it was already there. Don't let these people rip you off. Go to a reputable shop, insist on a receipt/ticket, take a photo of your product beforehand. TL;DR - Came in for a simple repair, ended up incurring $100s in additional damage to an expensive watch. Second time coming to Alberto's, the first was in 2016 and an older gentleman helped me. i was so thankful for his honesty and kindness. From my good experience, i was hopeful to have another. I called about resizing a Fossil watch and they said the jeweler needed to see it. The watch was in a had all link removed but one because my experience from Kay Jewelers i had knowledge on how to remove the pins, but that one was stuck. As soon as i walked in, we got attitude from a man i had never seen. Everything my boyfriend said, he was told was wrong. Apparently we "destroyed" the watch. After getting constant attitude he went back, had it done within a few minutes. Now knowing how this place has been to me before, i wasn't expecting a charge, but since he had attitude i asked. He laughed in my face and said "this isn't a charity." I was blown away by how rude the comment was. I paid him the $10 he asked for, and i asked him if he's the guy who is always there. he did not respond to my question but asked why. i told him i've been there and i've never received attitude, and i told him he must be having a bad day. He was caught off guard by me speaking up, and he said "it's not a bad day sweetheart" and i walked out. The least he could've done was give me back my $10 for a job that was pretty much done by myself. The ladies that work there did not seem surprised by my comment or his attitude. They were very nice on the phone but had to ask him all questions i had. The associates seemed miserable because of him. Overall, the store took a big downfall over the past two years. I went from having outstanding service to being treated like i'm stupid. By far worst experience i've ever had, i don't plan on going back. My boyfriend and I were disgusted by the guy treating us like we're not knowledgeable and dont know anything. I am only giving a two star review because my past experience was a positive and good one. No matter how bad someone's day is, they should not take out on someone else, especially a customer. read more

Honest business, funny owner. I did a special order on a Dimond which I got 2 weeks later, the owner told me it was $560 less because the Dimond price was less than when I ordered. I was wowed, this place earned my business and my full family business for Manet years to come. read more

Terrible customer service. There was no one in the store when I walked in inside a bustling and busy mall. I can now see why. I asked the young salesman to help me. Not even 5 minutes later the older sales man shooed him away and told him not to show me anything. He then accused me of "playing" him. Stay Away. Worst customer service! Never going back! My fiance and I went to have my engagement ring resized, as well as pick up his wedding band and exchange my wedding band . First, I was dealing with Alberto, the owner, who was very rude when we didn't understand why he insisted on making it smaller, then if too small, he would make bigger. Most people would think, go a little larger..you can always make smaller?? He didn't have much patience. I then wanted him to check the diamonds in the halo around my main diamond, as I felt there were imperfections and needed to be spaced more close together and more evenly. You can tell he got annoyed and was insisting I was wrong. (I can see these imperfections with the naked eye). They would say I was wrong, yet say they will do what they need to do to make me happy....but they wouldn't fix what I wanted fixed. They just said it needed to be cleaned. I remained calm and kept quiet. They totally disregarded what me (the customer) wanted to make me happy. With that, Alberto got upset and went to hide in the back room bc he didn't want to deal with us anymore apparently. We then dealt with a women (didn't catch her name). She was just as bad. I was trying to find another wedding band to better match my engagement ring, while all this women kept saying is "It's fine". "It's beautiful". I wouldn't exchange it. I think I heard this about 8 times, until I had to open my mouth and still in a calm voice say, I'm glad you like it, but don't I have to like it? I'm the one who has to wear it. She walked away and rolled her eyes. My fiance then was given his wedding band...which was too big. He was there and was sized when he bought my ring. Now we have to wait another couple weeks and go back to this place again. Totally dredding it. At the end of all this, Alberto asked me to step away so he can talk to my fiance. My fiance told me afterwards that he didn't like the fact that I was "talking back to him". I never "talked back to him". I am a customer who was hoping for some better customer service. When someone is paying thousands of dollars on such an important milestone items, you should expect nothing but top notch service. There is no such thing at Alberto's in Rockaway, NJ. I went to Alberto's for a watch battery replacement after my awful and distasteful customer experience at another store in the mall and received very quick and adequate service. Only cost me $10 dollars for the replacement battery, did not have to wait, and gave me a warranty in case the battery died. It was very quick and simple and I am happy with the results. read more

Look elsewhere. Poor service and craftmanship. I had them modify a gold diamond ring and they butchered the thing. Were suppose to remove some gold around stone to make ring a flat band. Received ring back with big gouges in prongs, file marks and uneven band thickness. When I talked to the owner, Alberto, he got very defensive, raised his voice (apparently he didn't like that my wife was starting to cry) and said I would have to speak to his partner, Rocky, who did the job. He eventually calmed down and said we could work out a deal on a new band. Next day I came back to see Rocky and told him that we would like to get a new band since he dug too deep into the prongs and sides were uneven. He tried to tell me not to look close at the ring and if you move your hand around while wearing it, you don't see. Really?? Keep your hand in motion for you don't see the terrible finish. If I wanted scratch marks and uneven finish, I could have done that myself. A jeweler should be professional, both in skill and customer service. This place has neither. I received a ruby/diamond ring and a ruby/white sapphire bracelet from my dad for my birthday. The items were purchased in Macy's, but when I went to get them resized in Macy's, I was told they couldn't resize them. I decided to bring the items to Alberto's to have them resized. When I entered the store, the owner greeted me with a big smile, and was more than happy to help. I showed him the bracelet and he measured it to see how many links needed to be taken out. Then I showed him the ring that needed to be resized and he helped me to determine the new size for the ring. I was told to come back in 30 minutes for both the ring and the bracelet. When I returned, the man who had originally helped me was nowhere in sight. There was an older woman and a younger girl behind the counter and a man working in the back room. I presented my ticket, and after several minutes the young girl explained that my bracelet was done, but the man was still fixing my ring. She brought out my bracelet, and I was very upset with what I saw. The two rubies in the clasp looked different (darker) than they originally did, and the white sapphire looked dull and yellow, not the bright white stone that was there originally. The underside of the clasp was black, not the bright sterling silver color that it originally was. When I questioned it, the older woman appeared annoyed. The clasp was also not latching, so the safety latch was swinging open each time I tried to close it. She told me that I had to latch it harder. She did that, and it held securely. I decided to take the bracelet off, and try it again myself. Once again, when I clasped the latch tightly, the safety latch swung open and wouldn't latch securely. The jeweler was called out, and he tightened the latch, making it too tight. Eventually he fixed it so that it would latch properly. When I asked about the black underside of the bracelet, he told he it was from the heat, and he took it in the back to polish it. When he came back, the underside looked better. Then I asked about the white stone. He claimed it was the same stone, it just changed in the heating process. I was told the rubies looked darker due to the lack of light coming through the back of the clasp. I also questioned why there was a missing stone in the links that he gave back. I received 4 links back. Two of them had rubies, one had a white sapphire, and one link was missing a stone! He claimed that sometimes the stones break, it happens. I originally thought the bracelet had diamonds (as the ring did), so I asked him where the diamond was. He brushed off my question, telling me it wasn't a diamond, it was a cubic zirconia. When I later checked my receipt at home, it was not a CZ, it was a white sapphire. The white stone in the clasp is noticeably smaller and it appears to be a different stone! Then I asked for my ring. I was told that two rubies had fallen out when he was working on it. He said I could wait for it, but he couldn't give me a time frame as to how long it would take to fix it. I opted to come back the next day. When I went back, the original man who helped me (the owner) was there. I gave him my ticket stub and asked for my ring. After looking for my ring for a few minutes, he came back and told me he couldn't find it. He then called his partner (the jeweler) and I was told that his partner had my ring in New York!! I asked why my ring had been taken to NY. He told me that the jeweler had broken two of the rubies, and he was taking the ring to NY to match the rubies. I told the owner that it didn't give me a good feeling to know that two of my rubies had been broken, and that now my ring wasn't even in the store. He got very defensive, and began to say, "What do you want me to tell you? Do you want me to lie to you? These things happen. Just like when you go to the doctor for a blood test and you find out that you have cancer. It happens." When I tried to talk to him, he cut me off, yelling at me telling me that it happens. I was told to call after 4 PM the next day. I explained that I live a distance from the store and it would be an inconvenience to now make a third trip to the store for my jewelry. My husband and I went back a few days later to pick up my ring. The owner was visibly uncomfortable because my husband was with me. He made a comment about me not having to bring my husband because of what happened a few days before. When I got the ring back, it was correctly sized. It looks as though one of the rubies is smaller than the others. My goal was to get my ring back, so I paid for the ring and bracelet. I will NEVER do business there again. The owner was rude and I am very dissatisfied with the work that was done. I still question whether the white stone in the bracelet is really a white sapphire, and I question the missing stone in the links that were returned to me. My advice it to save yourself some grief and find a reputable jeweler. read more
