    Loooookkk!!!

I tell you what... the amount of Stationery Stores I went into while at home this past summer was AMAZING! from one side of town to the other! lol Albertine Press was on my list as it was on the official #stationerystoreday2023. Well-organized shop with lots of gift-buying options not only stationery - culinary items, teas, jams, kitchen aprons, plenty of children's activity gifts, and OMG the Boston unique items!! I wish I could've stacked up on all the things for my home here. The notecards I ABSOLUTELY loved here were the Boston ones with the skyline. In fact, on my next trip home I will need to get more. Oh, and the owners' daughter rang me up too! She was so adorable I can see she is getting prepared to love the business as her Mom does. Respectfully Reviewed.

The name of this press and shop of course earns many points in this Proustian's book (Note: no relation to Albertine bookstore in NY). I have never been here in person, but I received as gift a cute set of Brooklyn letterpress cards printed on really good stock from here that work well for notes to out-of-towners. I was also very impressed with the online store (a selection of which is on Etsy) offering reasonably priced cards; cute desk set products like magnetic cat bookmarks, cat sticky tabs, etc.; a wine passport journal; and much more for others' niche interests. This is a great local yet global small business to support by shopping for gifts for the bibliophiles and writers in your life amid the pandemic. Bonus points for the fact that nearly all of Albertine Press's work is printed on eco-friendly 100% cotton paper. "The first thing to be done was to read Albertine's letter." -Proust "The pictorial multiplicity of Albertine evolves gradually into a plastic and moral multiplicity. Albertine is not a solid object. She is unknowable." -Anne Carson, "The Albertine Workout" "I wanted to get to the Grand Trianon. I thought if I moved under its arches, allowed myself the vistas which open out from its gardens, I would be able to retrieve myself." -Jacqueline Rose, "Albertine"

Lovely letterpress invitations for our small family wedding in our backyard.

Cute store. I've been in many times and purchased cards, decorations, journals, stationery, and…read morepens. I don't plan to return, however. It is too cluttered and the customer service is just not nice. Once there was a tower of cardboard boxes blocking the glass display case. I tried to peek at the display case but was scolded for touching the pile of boxes. When I asked what was in the display case, they read me a long list of all the brands of pens they carry. Not really the "browsing" experience I was looking for. Another time I visited, there was a box of cards on the floor. I got on my knees to look at the box. An employee came quickly over and told me not to do that because I was blocking the aisle. I said that I wanted to look at the cards in order to pick some out, but I couldn't see them because they were on the floor. They solved the problem by picking up the box, setting it on top of another display, and waiting over me, blocking the aisle, while I chose the one I wanted. There are plenty of cards, notebooks, and decorations printed with words like s**t and f**k on them. Plenty of people (including myself) aren't offended by this, but it's worth knowing if you have young children and you don't want them to see profanity.

Feels: I'm not too familiar with Boston, but I was told this is one of the original areas of the city. There are lots of businesses and apartments nearby, so the neighborhood feels lively. The shop itself is pretty vibrant and spans two floors. They carry a wide range of apparel--from vintage pieces to newer items and even costumes. Customer Service: Awesome. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Overall: 5 stars. They had exactly what I needed, right when I needed it. If you're looking to refresh your wardrobe on a budget or find some unique costume pieces, this is definitely a spot worth checking out. Tip: Check out their "by the pound" section--you can score some really great deals there.

Instead, Garment D. Is Organized, spotless and straight-up vibey. Two full floors to roam. Hot-pink walls, black-and-white checkerboard floors like stepping into an 80s music video. It's quirky, loud and proudly vintage. Everything's sorted with precision: pants with pants, denim with denim, tops with tops. These folks don't play around. And yeah, the majority of the clothing here is all use. But like I always do- I buy my stuff, take it home (or the cleaners), wash it and it snaps back looking like new. By the way- they do carry some new items- as in not used as well. My daughter and I bought some vintage denims, sweaters and a few other things. Zero mess. Zero stress. 100% unexpected.
