This venue for me is quite different. I mean bluegrass in Jersey? Well, I was game and it was a new experience. Let's go over the building itself. The old one was on Rt 9, I was told, and moved in its present location 25 yrs ago. This is the 49th anniversary and the event I attended is the festival celebrating this. There is seating for about 150-175 people, a snack stand and a gift shop. Normally it's $5 to gain entrance. Today it was $10, (anniversary show) Most shows start around noon and end 5:30. There is a lot of memorabilia on the two walls. Volunteers are always welcome. Free parking. It's nice to preserve the traditions of the people in this area called the Pineys.( Pinelands) in Southern Ocean County.

We arrived early 'cause we're old, we didn't want to stand all night, and hoped to grab a table by the bar. We had to wait for 5-10 minutes outside before the doors opened at 7:00. It was cold out there! While we stood there, a bouncer came outside and stood with us. He could have remained indoors where it was warm. But in a gesture of silent solidarity, the dude joined us in the cold until the doors opened. He didn't make a big deal about it, just stood with us. You know, in our angry, cynical, stressed out world, it's awfully nice to witness a small display of humanity. Thanks, big guy. Once inside we snagged a table near the bar. I asked the bartender for a virgin strawberry margarita for my wife. But alas, the margaritas are premixed and they'd all lost their virginity. The bartender offered to make a substitute concoction for my wife. She asked me to report back and if my wife didn't like the drink, she'd comp us. Again, real decency. And good mixology, too. The drink was great. The show was fantastic, the acoustics outstanding, and the overall vibe at ARC is cool but unpretentious. It's a kick-ass independent music venue. That was our first show, and we'll be back for more. P.S. If ARC is reading this, could you maybe book more hip hop?

Everything was loud (designed for a bigger, outdoor show, not this venue) and sounded way too tinny. Also who the hell was Starberry? The band that performed was not the band they said to look up on Spotify (the former was a group of high 20 somethings and not a 5 piece indie band with two ladies) . We're very confused

A mixed drink with a great pour size, and a bottle of soda was $12 - which is cheaper than most venues considering it was a full bottle and we go to keep the cap and the mixed drink was large. We saw "The Carpenters", which I saw a while back at the Algonquin theater. I wanted to see the show again because it was so good, but this show was like listening to the B-side of a 45. I can't even tell you how disappointed I was that they didn't play many hits. She sang covers from other artists and not so popular hits. I personally found it strange the way the show began with the guy running the strand, coming on stage with a piece of paper talking, and then having us stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I have no problems saying the Pledge of Allegiance, but I just found the whole thing odd. I've never gone to any other musical event or show where they had everyone stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance prior to the event. I also had a rude person seating us. I thought I had bought center orchestra, but it turned out that I bought center tier and when I told him I just wanted to look at my phone to verify what I had purchased because I thought my tickets were wrong. He got nasty with me and told me that's what your ticket said that's what you bought and I told him to just give me a minute so I could just look it up on my phone to verify and it wasn't like he had anything else to do or he was seating anyone else I didn't ask him to wait with me. I understood that my tickets were for the tier, but before I climb the stairs to the top, I wanted to make sure that I got the correct tickets from Will call, but instead of just letting me be, he felt the need to argue with me when there was no argument to be had, and him finally walking away, saying whatever. Other than him all the other people working there were great. This was just one experience but normally I never have any problems there.

Between the atmosphere, the charm, the creativity, and the overall experience- I would vote this the best dive bar in NYC (I think Guy Fieri would agree). Tucked inside a historic building, this place has such a unique, intimate feel. The energy, the staff, the food, the drinks and the live band, was fuggetabouit I checked out their website and then experiencing it in person, I can confidently say... The Rock House is a VIBE for sure! So the space is on the smaller side, but all part of that neighborhood vibe. It's like Rock Glam meets neighborhood bar in like a Cheers type setting what I'm sure there are regulars. For a night out with 10 people- we locked down the bathroom corner and I actually enjoyed being able to sit close with my friends. Felt like we had best seats in the house but when you look around... everyone kind of has the best seats since the bar is central to the entire perimeter. As a nurse, I've only ever been out that way for Northwell on Seguine, so I had no idea there was even a spot like this tucked at the end. Hidden gem for sure. And don't let the word "bar" fool you okay this place delivers on food Big ups to "Rocker Jen," the owner, who was hanging out like one of the patrons, she not only served up looks, but jumped in to make her signature Bloody Mary. When I say it's a meal in a cup, I mean it- my inner foodie was so excited Onion rings, fried pickles, a bacon-wrapped hot dog, fried sweet shrimp, a pretzel, chicken fingers, and two of the best cheeseburger sliders I've had in a while. And you already know I'm a foodie... ahem Yelp Elite I really can't stop thinking of that delicious rim too. What really surprised me is that it's not just a bar with entertainment- I read- it's also dog-friendly, which makes it even better . Check out their website for happy hour details, events, and happenings... Rock House Bar and Grille knocked it out of the park. I'll absolutely be back. If you love Rock Music and good food and drinks- do not miss this place- enjoy

All of the volunteers were extremely friendly and it made for a great experience. I really enjoyed our experience at this place, however, during the recent visit: The only reason for giving it only one star was the emcee, who I believe is the owner. He, in my opinion, was completely rude. He spent most of his time before the show not talking about the acts but how the place was funded by donations from the audience and how recently people haven't put enough in the passed around donation bucket. My first time at this location I was unaware that a donation was requested for the volunteers so I didn't have any cash on hand. This time I made a point to bring cash because I totally appreciate volunteer work. But this man, in my opinion, belittled the volunteers by requesting at least a $20 donation. Saying that the donations have been sparse during recent events and we need to make up for it. Why do I need to make up for it? Hey, maybe mention it on your website so that people understand the situation, instead of making people feel guilty when they get to the venue. He also, in my opinion again, made fun of people who have never been to the venue before saying why haven't you been since we've been here for so many years. He should appreciate that people are coming to his venue. It definitely felt like people he didn't know weren't worth coming to the venue. Again just my opinion. But if it was my first time at the venue and someone told me they should give them $20 for volunteers and why haven't you been here before, I'd be insulted. He also had an attitude when my wife, who has trouble with stairs, was walking to the front of the venue. He said we should have let them know ahead of time and they would have told us about the handicap entrance. It's not labeled anywhere and how was I supposed to know ahead of time to contact them? I did look back on their website to check the information and 1) they do indicate that donations help with their non-profit organization, but it's below where you click on information about the shows, so it's not easy to see. Maybe you should move that up and specifically say that you will request donations at the show. 2) The handicap information is at the very bottom of the page and again not necessarily where you'd go to find it. Maybe have a FAQ link at the top of the page?
