Might make you uncomfortable if your middle aged like me and still remember drs and dentists offices were you didn't have to hear how horrible your fellow patients are or how funny they look/act/speak etc. And since the up-front staff wears bedroom slippers, I'm guessing they run a pretty informal ship. So maybe I'm way off base thinking an office that handles surgical procedures should follow those way old fashioned ideas of patient care and respect. It's kind of hard to get an appointment there too. Our dentist had to send three referrals to make it past the front desk folks. It's amazing how they can diagnose a patient without seeing them. And I had no idea the front office staff was so well educated in oral surgery that they could decide who could or could not be seen based on a phone call and a referral from a dentist. We had been there a couple of times for the whole implant thing but it took almost a year and three more referrals before we could get an appointment for another implant that was needed. Guess they have more than enough business so you probably need to get your dentist to try someone else if you need oral surgery of any kind. Now Dr Shah and all the nurses seem to be great. They have taken good care of us if we get to see them. I have nothing but praise for that part of the visits. Sad that the front office has to approve of your appointment before you can see him.

Dr. Durham's assistant, Claire was awesome! She was very thorough with explaining the steps of getting my braces on and she made me feel at ease throughout the process. Dr. Durham himself was very personable and efficient as he rotated to/from each patient. Out of 5 consultations in the area, Dr. Durham and his staff had me at "Hello". From the staff in the front end to the staff in the back end, the hospitality and professionalism remained consistent. After completing my consultation, I called back a day or two after to schedule my initial treatment. *They provide you with an electric toothbrush, t-shirt and some other goodies after completing your initial treatment. Also, there's no additional charge for adults to have clear braces. They also have a reward program that I'm SUPER stoked about. The program allows you accumulate points and redeem for gift cards. Full disclosure, I did not tell them about me being pregnant when I made an appointment over the phone because I've had cleaning before at other dentistry while I was pregnant and I did not have any issues. Apparently, this dentistry, you MUST take x-rays before you do anything. Whether it's basic cleaning or not, they have to take x-rays and I was told that it's part of their dentist's liability. I just told them that all I want is just cleaning and see if there's anything bad/cavity, etc and I really do not want to take x-rays. Like none of dentists I've met told me i should take x-rays to do any further procedure with them, i feel like whether you are pregnant or not, that should be your choice. I did some research and it seems like its OK to have a quick dental x-ray while you are pregnant but I just felt iffy about it and I told them i do not want to take x-rays. From me walking in to me getting denied by this dentistry, I think i spent a little bit over an hour. For nothing. It was my fault i did not mention that over the phone, however, I think that this issue could've been addressed a lot sooner. Again, I understand that every doctor/dentist has a different standard and liability, but I've just never seen any dentistry who refuses you because you opt out an x-ray due to your personal situation. I ended up calling another dentistry literally right next to them and they told me that I could come in for a cleaning without getting x-rays. Staff at the front desk and Michelle, who was going to clean my teeth, they were all very nice and helpful though! I hate that I left there without getting anything done but maybe I will come back later.

We actually had a great experience seeing a doctor who assured us that he has taken on workman's comp cases before and as long as we took care of it on the front end (we had), it should be no problem. We were told to expect a call to schedule surgery in the next 24 hours, because she has a limited window to get the surgery before her gum begins to heal. Three days later, my sister gets a call informing her that they do not, in fact, take workman's comp cases, and she has to start over from scratch. I called to clarify because I was sure it was a mistake, and the woman I spoke to was rude and deeply unsympathetic. She gave us no recommendations for a new oral surgeon, and she seemed irritated that I would ask. We finally found a new doctor, who not only told us that she actually also has a fracture in her mandible, but the gum has healed too much, so now she has to wait three months for surgery. Know that if you don't have private insurance, you're not welcome here, and you'll be made to feel like trash. They care about profit over people.

To top it off, my mother has even been a patient in this practice. The level of competency and complete lack of care is astounding. If this is the level of care they give patients, then maybe they shouldn't be the practice Huntsville Hospital uses for consults. It is unconscionable for this to have happened. Even if there wasn't anything he could do, the professional thing to do would have been to let the hospital staff know he wasn't going to see her before 36 hours had passed. Disappointing First Visit - I Won't Be Returning…read more I recently moved from Michigan to Alabama and needed to schedule my routine 6-month cleaning, something I've consistently done twice a year for the past 18+ years. I've always had pain-free, professional experiences at my previous dental office in Michigan, so I was hoping for the same when I scheduled with Aspen Dental for the first time. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Since it was my first visit, I expected to have X-rays done--which is completely understandable. However, the machinery seemed outdated, and the tools used to position my mouth for the pictures were very uncomfortable and painful. I expressed this to the dental assistant, and her response was, "Yeah, a lot of people say it hurts, but you have to bear with it." She seemed annoyed that I was vocalizing my discomfort, which was very unprofessional. She eventually asked for someone else to take over. Thankfully, the next assistant was a bit gentler, but the damage was done. The next day (today), my gums were still sore, and I could feel the indentation from where the tools were pressed in. To make matters worse, the billing process was confusing and felt a bit deceptive. After sitting down with the billing receptionist, I was initially told the visit would cost $278, which immediately raised red flags because I've never had to pay for an initial exam, X-rays, or cleaning in the past with insurance. When I questioned it, they removed $200 worth of services I hadn't requested. I still ended up paying $78 for fluoride and some additional item they vaguely described. Again, not something I ever encountered at my previous dentist. Overall, this experience was far from what I consider acceptable for a simple cleaning visit. Between the poor bedside manner, the physical discomfort, and the questionable billing practices, I will not be returning to this location. My husband has an upcoming appointment at another Aspen Dental branch, and I'm curious to see how his experience compares--but I personally cannot recommend this office.
