Atlantic Coast Hockey Academy

Atlantic Coast Hockey Academy

(1 review)

Very hurt and displeased by this organization. Here is the truth and the facts. Atlantic Coast…read moreAcademy (ACA) expressed interest in having my son join their 2023-24 team. They informed us that there would be 3 goalies on the team. We were concerned about the lack of play/game time, so we scheduled a meeting with the coach and the owner on the phone and they reassured us that they would rotate and play the goalies equally, so if there are 4 games in a weekend, each goalie would play a game and the goalie playing best would get the fourth game. Made sense, so trusting them, we signed the contract and moved our 16 year old son out of state to play for their team. After 14 games, Atlantic Coast played our son in only 2 of those 14 games. The team would go on 4 game weekend road trips, rotate the other two goalies equally and not play our son once! There was no communication to our son or to us parents as to why he wasn't playing or what he could do to earn more time! Their website states that they pride themselves on "excellent player development and maximum exposure opportunities". How is playing our son in 2 out of 14 games going to accomplish that? Our son was completely deflated and discouraged, so my wife and I pulled him from the program and brought him back home. I called the President of Massachusetts Hockey to get our son off the Atlantic Coast roster and was shocked to find that Atlantic Coast never put our son on their roster, even though he had been there for almost 2 months!! Mass Hockey stated "he was never part of their program and should never have played". We were told that Atlantic Coast rostered our son on a team we had never heard of called Viking Hockey Club. When I confronted Atlantic Coast they stated "the process of rostering players involves several steps with the Massachusetts Hockey Board of Directors". So I asked Mass Hockey how long the process is to officially roster a player on a team and was told for rostering "their job is done in less than 5 minutes". I then asked Massachusetts Hockey President if all of the coaches had fulfilled all of their USA Hockey requirements such as completing a USA background screening, safesport certification, USA Hockey Education Program endorsement and online module certification and was told that one of the coaches working with my son had not completed those requirements yet!! Other issues include Atlantic Coast stating in their contract that "all meals are included". However, after the season started they told all the players and parents that meals on roadtrips are not included and players would have to pay for their own meals!! In summary, I'm more hurt than I am angry, because I was the one that sent my son to this organization. Having him leave home for the first time and move out of state was already emotional enough. I trusted Atlantic Coast would take good care of him. Now, after this experience, my son no longer wants to play hockey. As for "maximum exposure", he played in 2 of 14 games!! And even though our son played in two games for ACA, there are no stats that he EVER played for this team because he was never on their roster. ACA also deleted all posts regarding our son on their social media pages, including the post they made about our son joining their team. I asked for a full refund from this organization and they have refused. I wanted to write this review to state the truth and the facts, so that other parents can make an informed choice.

The Boston Bruins, along with their fellow Original Six members (Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red…read moreWings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and New York Rangers), are one of the all-time great NHL franchises. Of the league's current 32 teams, the Bruins rank fourth in total Stanley Cup Finals appearances (20). Of the Original Six, the Bruins have the worst Finals winning percentage: 300 (6-14). Still, that's six championships which is more than 27 other NHL franchises can say. In the last 50 years, Boston has only won one Stanley Cup and it didn't come easy. The Bruins faced the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 Finals, a series that went the distance. The Bruins came out on top, 4-3, thanks to strong performances in Games 6 and 7. The squad was led by goalie Tim Thomas, "Big Z" Zdeno Chara, winger Milan Lucic, and center David Krejci. That year, Thomas went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (Stanley Cup Finals MVP) and both Thomas and Chara were named to the NHL's All-Star Teams. Lucic and Krejci were drafted by the Bruins in 2006 and 2004, respectively. Claude Julien was the coach of the 2011 championship team. He led Boston to two Stanley Cup Finals appearances in three seasons (2011 and 2013). However, the Bruins also missed the playoffs two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. Julien was eventually fired in the middle of the 2016-17 season. Throughout the Bruins' history, dating back to the 1924-25 season, the team has rarely missed the playoffs two straight years or more. The Bruins consistently qualify for the playoffs, year in and year out. Ray Bourque and Johnny Bucyk, both in the Hockey Hall of Fame, are the franchise's all-time points leaders. Bourque spent 21 seasons in Boston (1976-77 through 1999-2000). He never won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins, but he did with the Colorado Avalanche and retired shortly thereafter (2001). Bucyk helped lead the Bruins to two Stanley Cup championships in 1970 and 1972. Like Bourque, Bucyk spent 21 seasons in Boston (1957-58 through 1977-78). The "Chief" retired a Bruin in 1978. He still holds the franchise record in goals with 545 and Bourque holds the record in assists with 1,111.
