Heather (dog trainer) is the only bright spot within this facility who's always on top of things. We notice on days she's not there the cleanliness, customer interactions, and overall functioning of this business becomes extremely degraded. We've had a standing appointment with our 3 dogs every other Friday for over 2 years and schedule 2-3 months in advance. The previous owners always insured a gap with our pups since one of our dogs is reactive. This courtesy wasn't just extended to our dogs but to all clientele that needed a small buffer to get their dogs in/out of the pool. Recently, when the new owner was doing orientations with new clientele 2 dogs were brought in during our swim time and our dogs immediately stopped swimming and began engaging the dogs that had suddenly appeared. The new owner did not address the situation appropriately and should have politely asked new clientele to wait in their vehicles until we completed our swim time. The previous owners had this as a standing rule so clients renting out the pool were not disturbed during their 30 min swim time. The new owner asked if we wanted our session comped and stated we just didn't want dogs coming in during our session which until recently had never been an issue. We asked if this would be a problem in the future and the new owner stated you can just take the last session of the day if it's going to be a problem. It appeared the new owner didn't want to extend this simple courtesy. My spouse texted back and forth with the new owner stating that we would wait until Heather returned prior to scheduling another appointment. She abruptly, credited the remaining balance of our $1,200 punch card and sent us a comp for our session that had been interrupted without discussing with us first. Apparently, losing an established client after 2 years is this new owners only solution to this "new" issue which was never a problem with the previous owners. I sincerely hope that the "New" ownership can adopt/enforce the established policies the previous owners had in place. This would create a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for everyone.

You enter through the solarium, a little tropical oasis with two goldfish/koi ponds, an incredible display of tropical plants and trees, and a large birdcage with a tree in it. We enjoyed simply sitting on the bench here and taking it all in. Next is the main greenhouse. There is quite a collection in there, some of the plants and trees have clearly been there a very long time, there are cacti that practically touch the ceiling, trees spreading out overhead, and all manner of other tropical plants that you won't find anywhere outside within a thousand miles of here. And there are starts and seedlings as well, indicating this will continue to be the lovely hidden oasis it is for years to come. I've been to bigger and more grandiose tropical greenhouses, but to have this at all in Alaska is quite an accomplishment. And it's free. A great way to spend an hour or so.

Thank you AK Humane Society for helping us find our new little kitty!…read more After a visit to an almost empty pound (kittywise) and a very small selection at Pet Zoo, we hit the Humane Society. Okay, yes, it smells like cat pee in a big way, but for a good reason. This place is basically an open warehouse where the cats get to roam free. One side is a big, open room with two floors and some smaller, open rooms. It's filled with cat beds, litter boxes, treats, and toys. This is a great setup for people looking to adopt because the cats can find you, come out on their own tems. There's also a front office where they keep kitties who need more socialization, and then a back room where they keep kitties in cages who are new, getting medical treatment, or who can't be around other kitties. There were only about 5 in this room. The volunteers were very helpful and knowledgeable, especially Brock. He seemed to know a lot about most of the cats, like their age, name, and temperament. He was forthright about details. For example, a few cats were known for fighting or biting, and he let us know that, which we appreciated. They all seem invested in the cat's well being. If you meet a cat you like, you can spend alone time with it. Just ask. One word of caution: some of the kitties you meet belong to the volunteers or have already been paid for, so check before you decide the cat you met is the one. We found two others we liked first, but they were spoken for. All the better, though, because our Mila is a sweetheart. Also, this place accepts cash and check only. I believe all cats there are given shots, spayed or neutered (if necessary), and micro-chipped. Whether you adopt here or elsewhere, if you are ready for a pet, rescuing a kitty companion or two is a great thing to do. The cats will thank you, and you'll be happier for it.

Before I rescued my pup, I would often take walks/runs there because again, it's a mile loop that is an easy path right off the APU ski system and other Anchorage trail system. There is a designated parking area; however, it seems many park goers park closer to the field entrance by the hotel where it is marked as a fire lane. I would be cautious parking here, but it seems to be a popular parking zone. Most of the time I walk from home, it builds up more excitement anyways! The park is great, as there is water access for your dog, a couple fields for dogs to play or for you to have 1:1 for play time or to work with your dog. The dog owners the come are friendly dog people and seem to always be excited to share about their pup, and most understand when yours has a special need, is shy, or just is having a day. However, every owner and person also has to remember to be responsible for their pet and know you are in a dog park. Carrying treats may welcome more attention than you want, hunan food may not be the best idea, and flexibility with dogs in training must be present at all times. We have allll been there with our pooch. Should children come? Yes! But also remember it's a dog park so we are here for them and know when to keep it moving. We all want our pets and the kids to be safe. I've seen people run, bike, ski, and sled with their pooch through the park and it's been epic. My mini Aussie Shepard loves her park time and this park means so much to her as she has become more social and learned people are ok, she can move along, and loves to play with other dogs. Enjoy this park!!

There are a couple of parking lots off Elmore, one directly and one that's on down a road a bit off Elmore (can't remember, but I'll update review when I mentally remember to look). This location, like the last location has multiple trails off the main trail around the lake, and there are helpful leash signs at crossroads of what is part of the leash-free park and what isn't. I like how many dogs have an opportunity to swim in the lake, but I noticed a couple of beaver dams last year and I wonder how much this affects the habitat. Guess they can move on if it interferes? I like that this park is up against the hospital campus so workers and sickies alike can take a healthy walk when able. People and pets are generally good, but like the other park this place is only as good as the people in it. Earlier this year there were a few car break-ins in the lot off Elmore, and that feels like the absolute worst to worry about your belongings while running your pup. Will come again.
