Smile Clinic Arizona told me they would correct my problems, but it would cost me over $16,000 on top of what I already payed them. What reputable company would charge someone to correct a problem they created? Save your money and go to another dentist. You'll have peace of mind and they wont take years of your time and inferior work.

If you're anything like me then you have a genuine fear of shots, getting my teeth drilled on and being told I need to floss-more. When I initially met Dr. Steinberg I was a bit skeptical that he would be like every other dentist, who seems to care more about the paycheck then the actual patient's health or well-being. Fortunately this was not at all the case. Josh exhibited a thorough understanding of dentistry and what needed to be done. I asked to many questions to which he had well thought out, precise and logic answers. I informed him that I was incredibly sensitive to drilling and requested that he take special considerations while working on my teeth... I'm so happy with my experience because he did exactly that. Dr. Steinberg let me know what he was going to do before doing it and regularly checked on me to ensure that I was OK. When it came time for me to receive the shots he walked me through each process step-by-step and allowed me to feel comfortable even though I was incredibly nervous. During the main stages of drilling Dr. Steinberg remained consistent and ensured that I was comfortable the entire time. He exhibited a great skill set with everything he was doing, primarily because it didn't feel like I dental work done once I left his office. I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. They seem very knowledgable and seem to know what they're doing when it comes to dentistry, but my concerns are more in the administration side of things. I changed jobs earlier this year and got new insurance with a common major insurance provider, and I needed to get a procedure done. I asked them what the procedure would cost and they gave me a quote, which was already expensive, and I paid that at the time of service. However, when I came in for a routine cleaning 6 months later, they said the insurance "didn't pay as much as they thought" and stuck me with MORE THAN DOUBLE their original quote. I looked into the insurance claim and called the insurance company myself, and the insurance company paid exactly what was according to their billing schedule. There were no surprises. I think the office knew (or should have known, because they're the professionals and this is what they do) that this would happen, and they dishonestly gave me a lower quote, did the service, and then stuck me with the even more expensive bill (but to their credit, they did give me a lower price than what they billed to insurance, but it was still VERY expensive that I was not prepared for). Additionally, I distinctly recall the procedure treated four teeth, but then on the bill and insurance claim, they say they treated six. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to argue this, especially because it happened so long ago. I suspect they didn't contact me about this issue earlier for this exact reason. Again, dishonest. Another concern with this dentist is that it's unprofessional that they use Zelle to get around credit/debit card transaction fees. Every merchant has to deal with card transaction fees, they shouldn't be up-charging that cost and they shouldn't be using Zelle, which is supposed to just be a peer-to-peer payment network. Lastly, as much as I love dogs, I don't think it's hygienic that they keep a dog in their office. In all, I started off loving this dentist, and very disappointed that they turned out to be this unprofessional and dishonest. I'm sad I'll have to go elsewhere from now on.

After going through all the intake paperwork and providing my insurance information, the dentist then told me he was only a general dentist and could not help with the treatment I needed. That would have been frustrating enough, but they still charged both me and my insurance a total of $250 ($50 copay and $200 insurance payment) for a visit that provided no actual care or solution. When I raised the issue, their response was that they "used to have a periodontist, but he left years ago," and that they cannot control what appears on healthcare websites. While that may be true, they can absolutely control being honest when a patient clearly states the type of specialist they need. Instead, they allowed the appointment to proceed, then charged for a service they knew they could not provide. Very disappointing experience.

I expressed that concern because I wanted to understand what was necessary and how the dentist would determine what tooth structure needed to be removed. Unfortunately, the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable asking questions and uncertain about why the preparation needed to be enlarged. In retrospect, I recognize that my questions may have come across as questioning the dentist's competence, and that was never my intention. I was an anxious patient trying to understand an irreversible procedure. I can accept that my concerns may not have come across exactly as I intended, but I also believe patients should be able to express anxiety and ask questions without being made to feel that they have challenged their provider's credibility.
