Anyone who grew up with "The Brady Bunch" knows that being a stinker is the absolute worst thing ever ("Bobby is such a stinker!" "Marcia, you know I don't like THAT WORD!!"). My gene pool (lookin' at you, Dad) has made me prone to allergies and my nose seems more than happy to react to whatever in the atmosphere it doesn't like. Reactions range from mild pouting to a full-on revolt. On the bright side, I haven't had a cold in 18 years, so I guess my nose likes me sometimes. Moody little stinker.... Despite the Challenge (note the capital "C") that my nose presents, Dr. Pomerantz has helped it cooperate better with the world around it. There is no cure for what ails it, but there are many drugs/treatments/options out there for people like me, and Dr. Pomerantz has always given me good advice and recommendations. My nose will never be perfect, but it's definitely much less pissed off now. Really, can you give less than 5 stars to someone who not only improves your quality of life, but is also super nice, even when he pulls gross crud out of your nose for you? Dr. Pomerantz also cleans ears (I know because I heard him say, "Let's clean your ears!" to a patient in the next room...I should be a detective!). If I ever need an ear cleaning, he's totally my guy. Although if I come to him with more problems, he might think I am stalking him. But it's likely this review already took care of that.

I'm never going back. The visit was due a stuffy nose unrelated to a cold. My entire visit was twenty minutes--15 of it was spent waiting. My bill was $880. Supposedly I had 2 surgeries done in 20 minutes. A minute to look up my nose and a peek into my ear canal. He's great. but ASK if he's going to do anything that will cost more than your additional copay. Because you figure an ENT looking up your nose was normal. Not a surgery that costs $500. Their billing department is a mess. The visit was over a year ago. It's unpleasant getting a new bill over a year later painfully reminding me that this was a very expensive 20 minute visit, stating I actually owe even more than initially billed. While the doctor himself is great, you still need to deal with his office. Never going back.

I have been dealing with an ear problem (creepy crawly feeling) for three months so he stuck some kind of suction tube in my ear and it hurt so bad and after the second time of me wincing he basically said, forget it and said nothing he can do for me. So then I asked him about a concern in my throat. He sends me to a different room and sticks a long tube down both nostrils and it hurt so incredibly bad. I was almost in tears. I told him I had had it done before years ago and they had put some numbing in there before they did the procedure. He said we don't do that! And rudely! He didn't care whatsoever! I will say, though that when he sent me in for a hearing test, the lady in there was exceptional! That's as much as they get! My opinion... Don't ever ever go to this doctor!

I honestly couldn't belive it if you would have heard the way people raved about him. I posted on Facebook my experience and a lot of moms reached out with similar experiences. He ended up calling and leaving me a voicemail apologizing but it was only due to the Facebook backlash. Fast forward to now, my son was diagnosed with autism and sensorineural hearing loss. He could have had a cochlear implant YEARS ago. If Dr Gerber would have given us the time of day we could have helped my son sooner and he could have learned to talk sooner. He cost me years of conversations with my son and I will never forgive him.

My little munchkin had her tonsils removed by Dr Gerber about 10 days ago. I've suspected for a…read morelong time now that her tonsils had to go, but have been avoiding the issue...and hoping they'd just shrink on their own. When we visited to our pediatrician, Dr Rauen,* for my daughter's 3rd year appointment it was highly suggested that we see a pediatric ENT in the very near future because they were pretty much blocking her entire throat. I was very nervous about putting my daughter thru this surgery and even more so because the pediatric ENT** that we'd used (and loved) in the past was currently on temporary leave due to a broken wrist. Dr Rauen suggested we pay Dr Gerber a visit who she insisted was just as talented as Dr. Rastatter. She also mentioned that Dr Gerber was known for doing partial tonsillectomy, which had the same results, but a much easier recovery. Easier recovery?? Based on those words alone I made an appointment with Dr. Gerber at his Northbrook office and he was, by some miracle, able to see us later that week. Dr Gerber took one look at my daughter's enormous tonsils, listened to us describe her breathing (or lack of breathing especially at night) and agreed she needed them out. He gave us the options of a full vs partial tonsillectomy. 'We opted for the partial tonsillectomy, realizing that there's a .2% chance that the tonsils could grow back. Let's hope those small odds end up in our favor! Throughout the next few weeks whenever I'd mention to someone my daughter was getting our tonsils out they's respond "I hope you're going to Dr. Gerber because he's the best." At least 20 times! He's either paying people to say he's the best or perhaps he truly is the best. I discovered it's the latter. I liked Dr. Gerber when I met him in his office, but I was an even bigger fan on surgery day. He was calm, warm & took the time to explain every detail of the surgery. I was a nervous wreck, but put somewhat to ease after chatting with Dr. Gerber. Forty-five minutes my daughter was lured into surgery (thanks to a fun game on the phone of the anesthesiologist) Dr. Gerber came out all smiles to tell us the surgery had gone well. He also provided very specific instructions and I was thrilled to see everything was given to us later on in written form since it turned out to be a very long day. That night I received a phone call from Dr. Gerber himself checking in to see how she was doing. And the next day a call from his office checking in. I was super impressed with the bedside manner of the entire office. The recovery has been much better than expected. The first few days you would have never even known my daughter had just gone thru surgery. She was acting so "normal" that I was even tempted to send her to school, but of course let her rest. Days 5-7 weren't as much of a picnic since it's apparently painful with the scab falls out (ouch), but 10 days later she's as good as new. Actually better than new because she can breathe normally, talk so much clearer and even has more energy since her tonsils aren't waking her up constantly throughout the night. And I"m enjoying a bit more shut-eye as well! During my son's recent 1 year old appointment the pediatrician remarked that his tonsils look large as well (sigh). While I"m crossing my fingers that his don't cause any issues for him, at least I know there's a talented and caring pediatric ENT to help us. * http://www.yelp.com/biz/childrens-healthcare-associates-northbrook#hrid:sDU_QJA7iR7gsYsIvQ8QIg ** http://www.yelp.com/biz/jeff-c-rastatter-md-chicago#hrid:7jR28Vh3b4CPheAMUvyr2g

You get in, get taken care of, and walk out feeling like your health actually matters--not like you've just been upsold a wellness package. Since my doctor signed onto Orchard medical group, I've been sent a handful of letters all telling me that I need to start paying $100 annually to cover, "administrative costs." here's what it doesn't cover: quick, online results; speedy responses for phone calls; efficient, timely communication with pharmacies; means of getting hold of the group other than direct phone calls. Sounds like I'm paying $100 out-of-pocket to get worse service. Needless to say, I gladly let them let go with me at the end of the year. Love my doctor, but there are lots and lots of groups that don't charge administrative costs for bad administrative services. As a matter fact, most places offer much better administrative service for nothing.
