Erick, the inspector of my vehicle, was courteous, polite, and professional; he through out the process, which was quick, maintained a pleasant disposition, even when I failed to provide him with necessary information about my pickup (he kindly looked it up himself), and gave off the impression of a person knowledgeable in his chosen field and enjoyed performing its protocols to ensure an accurate and satisfying outcome. The charge for the service was reasonable and you are not kept waiting. Erick did not stop moving until he was finished and handing me the certificate. This is the type of establishment where the life of the customer is considered and paramount -- the work is executed expeditiously and you let go to return to living it. I called the shop for a smog quote for a BMW M3. The shop says they charge extra to "take their sweet time" to check the emissions. Every car has the same emissions hardware. I took my car to another shop who does not charge extra for performance cars. There is no difference in emissions.. every car has the same components and does not take longer to check. I called around Oakland for some price comparisons on Smog checks for my vehicle. I was up front about my car info with each place and Eric from Alameda Smog was the only one who was upfront about the discounted pricing. He didn't try to give me an inflated price first. He was super genuine and the price was good. It was about the same as another place but I decided to go here because of my experience on the phone with Eric. When I got to the place it had a small, busy parking lot. I did have to wait a little while but there was a small waiting area. There were no upsell attempts. It was apparently one of the few places that doesn't automatically give a free retest if you don't pass so if you're worried that might be something to consider. They don't charge the full cost if you don't pass but it's close. I paid cash. For me it was $47.25 but I think the price went up a bit since just a couple days ago. Eric made things go smoothly. I passed and there were no issues. Eric checked with me how I would be doing my renewal for my registration just to make sure I knew there would be a certain amount for the certificate to make it through the system. I was aware there's a wait time but glad he lets people know who might not. Overall I was pleased with Alameda Smog and Eric who works there and ran my smog test. I would recommend this place, just maybe not if you're in a hurry. It is first come first served. read more

Quick and Easy! We were lucky enough to roll in when there was no one in line. We found Steve enjoying a cup of coffee, so I said "please finish your coffee first." Steve jumped right in and started the smog. He told me that it may be slow now, but he could have three cars lined up in 3 minutes flat! You don'et see this work ethic everyday! He proceeded to look the engine over carefully and then promptly began the smog test. Well, unfortunately the battery had run down on the car and it had lost all of it's computer data. Steve explained the process of driving the car to record the data needed. My son followed his instructions and returned in just a couple of hours. Since Steve had already done the smog and only needed to plug in to the computer, he took my son right in and completed the smog. Steve did a good job of explaining the charges and explained the trouble with the first smog with no BS. The service was honest and straight forward. I've patronized this smog shop for many years now, bringing ~5 vehicles/year. Sometimes the service was fast, sometimes slow depending on the number of cars and the tech working. Came here today to find that they've added fine print to the "Web Special" to exclude what they consider High Performance vehicles at their discretion. Wanted to upcharge me 2x because my car came supercharged from the factory, claiming that this addition was to keep these vehicles in the best shape possible. What a joke. Last time I checked, the smog shop isn't doing any of my scheduled maintenance or oil changes. Won't be coming here or recommending this place anymore. Don't waste your time unless you like getting nickled and dimed. read more

Well, things seem to have gone downhill very rapidly. The owner has been disciplined by the state,and the service was rude and extremely unprofessional. Upon my 3rd visit for the same car, they said they didn't have gas for the test equipment, couldn't say when they would and turned into jerks when I pressed them for it so I could make an appt. Went to another shop in Alameda (Smog Dog), made arrangements to return in an hour when he could do it, and when we returned, he said his equipment broke while we were gone. That was a lie, because, guess what, he hadn't been using it on the car that was before us, and, Smog Dog has the same owner! So, this genius decided not to help because we were unhappy with the partner shop instead of making it right. What a bunch of incompetent clowns. Go To Oakland, these amatures have no idea what good customer service is. They've earned a minus 5 review. I just had them do smog certification on my Subaru Forester. It was a delightful experience. Erick was very friendly, efficient and competent. I was able to take advantage of a Web Special and got a very good price including notification to DMV. The whole time from when I drove in without an appointment until I drove away with my certificate took less than 20 minutes. I have had several smog checks from other companies in the past, and this was by far the nicest, most pleasant, quick and professional service I have received. They are friendly guys, but I won't be coming back. My first attempt at a smog check failed since there was an issue with a tube with tape on it. They recommended that I go to O'Reilly to get it checked out. I go there and a worker fixes the issue with a pocket knife in 1 min in the parking lot and tells me to go back to Alameda smog. They say they're not sure why the guys at Alameda smog couldn't have just fixed it themselves... On my second visit to Alameda smog, my vehicle passed and they charged me an extra $28. Not sure, why these guys couldn't have just lent me a hand.. that's why I won't be back. read more

I didn't show him the coupon until the test was complete and it was time to pay, and the gentleman refused to accept it because I had not shown it to him before he had written the full price on the paper invoice.
