Spent a few days here recently while moored out on the main water at the end of one of the gangways. Quiet and with an easy pace describes it best in the spring, with little to no interaction at all with others at this marina. Its a decent marina, with plenty of boats docked year around here. A private parking lot up topside, my vehicle sat for days with not a single issue. A few places within walking distance even to grab some food, provisions, etc. once here. My dock space on the end, well lit with land power and water right there. After tying my vessel, adjusting the steps to meet the deck and hooking up supply lines, my weeks visit was very relaxing and enjoyable. Even with the rowing teams at 0530 each morning going by, after the first morning I didn't even notice them by weeks end. A neat little marina, right next to Grand marina for a fraction of the cost. Located across the water from the Coast Guard station. 3.5 Stars - it met my needs for my stay and I will use them again in the future when in the area. 00948 read more

It did a search and it's the cheapest Marina in the area. It's also the only one without liveaboards, this no showers and no security gates. That said the area is still very safe. Probably the safest parking lots in the East Bay. Also Eileen the Harbor Master is great and helpful. I'm happy because of the great neighbors in the boats next to me. read more

All the dry storage is gone. All the hoists are not operating. There were three hoists for boats that were stored on their trailers, all of them are now gone. The marina property was bought several years ago by a real estate developer who clearly has an "in" with the City of Alameda, as all the concessions the development company made during negotiations during the permitting process have been abandoned. There is no boatyard. The developer never intended for there to be a boatyard on site, and the City Council has just winked and gone along with it, despite promises during community meetings. The homey yacht club...Island Yacht Club...the complete opposite of the "snooty yacht club"... has been kicked out. All the marine businesses have been kicked out, and most have a bitter taste in their mouths and won't ever be back. The non-boating business....all gone: the Printing shop, the Japanese woodworking shop, the custom car place....gone. The plan is to replace everything with condos, townhouses and more houses. The Alameda Marina used to be a hub of boating and business activity. It is now a ruined shadow of what it was. read more

I was trying to impress my new Spanish friend (who plans to move here) by showing him the Alameda Marina (also new for me). No surprise this place has the lowest rating on Yelp for Marina's. It all starts at the top. The harbormaster here isn't an impressive person by any measure. In fact it's fair to say he's socially inept and has the business acumen of an out of work grocery bagger. He dwells in his office all day long ignoring calls and relies on his office staff to manage all in-coming requests and concerns. Naturally the office staff has adopted his poor guest service attitude and are downright rude and incompetent. Sad part, this is a private marina. Wish it was owned by the city b/c then I could go to city hall and complain. Instead it's owned by somebody who tolerate the harbormaster and that's a losing situation for everyone. Also, 20amp is the highest power option. Unreal. No surprise the only positive review for this marina is from a woman who visited a boat here. Not kept a boat or ever worked with the marina. read more

Asked about a transient slip. Was told they have space available. Provided current survey, insurance, pictures of the vessel, and filled out the application. Their reply from the Harbormaster: I wanted to get back to you as soon as possible. At this time, we cannot take one even a temporary live aboard, so we won't be able to accommodate you. As much as I would like to accommodate cruising sailors, we are about 12 - 18 months out before we can do that. Please accept my apologies. G. Do not rent Here! Berths, space or office space at Alameda Marina! They will watch you and steal your stuff. They went on my boat while berthed here! Do not rent here. The security will watch you/follow you! The staff at Alameda Marina will watch you! Harbor Master - G. PAUL HOUTZ will have other renters/tenants watch you! Staff - Kathi will 2 face you to your face! As well as staff ILean. When these staff dont like you and dont even know you. They will cause problems for you or lie on you to kick you out! And they state "We dont have to give you a reason why they are kicking you out. That's just a way to cover there ass in case they are wrong as in this situation! They had another tenant watch me and buddy up to me and reported back to staff at Alameda Marina! Yet this guy was dumb as dirt! He told them what he thought of me and was wrong now that reporter guy who drives an older faded Black Grey Saab with Illinois license plate who is a tenant here. I got an eviction notice the very next day after talking to this piece of Siht! It's no quincidence! He packed up his boat and car and left when I confronted him on this issue! Guilty people dont run! Stop having tenants follow and watch me! Lawsuit in the works for Alameda Marina! It will all come out in court! You think tenants and security will lie for you??? We will see! Security tells me they dont work for the Marina directly! That tells an educated man alot!!! Location is excellent for enjoying the quiet community of Alameda. Great dining nearby (walking distance or short bike ride) and nice people at the chandlery. Very quiet marina whether weekday or weekend. Showers/Restrooms are clean and controlled by access card. Security guard at gate or access via same card. It is an older marina with some boats that may or may not be abandoned but overall it is great for the price. read more

Kathi was an awesome help for us as we were looking for a place for our boat. I live in Oregon so some of this was done long distance but she was great in finding us a good slip with a great view at a good price. We had some special requests that she handled extremely well and the location of the marina is quiet but close to good food and boat supplies. Not sure what more I could ask for in a marina or it's staff! read more

So I called and ended my slip rental in early January. I tried calling for follow up multiple times, no answer, so left voice mails. Never a returned call. I sent emails, no return on those either. It's now the end of March, and I finally get someone to answer the phone. They tell me their 'records' show me ending my rental at the end of January, and they kept my $230 deposit with no notice of any kind. Will NEVER use them again. read more

Man this place is a ripe off. DONT GO THERE. Just rented a storage for my 2014 whaler n not even a week goes by my motor got stolen. The hobor master Paul didn't even care or was concerned about it. ask for my refund still the boat wasn't even there for a week n still getting charge for the whole month smh. NOT GOOD. I purchased a boat in Sausalito Yacht Harbor and was approved for a slip there. I thought I would shopa round before signing and submitted an app to Alameda Marina as I am over in Alameda weekly on business. I explained all very clearly. Alameda Marina called Sausalito Yacht Harbor. IO later received an email from STH that they received a call from a Marina and that my slip in the harbor is no longer available. I sent a brief email to Alameda marina (after being approved by them also) and explained the situation and asked them why they would contact a Marina where I just purchased a boat. Within hours G Paul Houtz (now harbormaster) above his abilities..responded saying my app is now DENIED and threatened legal action if i brought my boat to there vacant Marina. These folks are foolish and obviously poor business people. I have since read reviews and see the ineptness of the management team. Skip this marina. read more

I wish I had seen k m.'s review a month ago. My outboard motor was also stolen, and had I received any notification whatsoever from the marina about a rash of outboard motor thefts, I would have removed it from my boat and brought it home with me. (PITA but I would still be able to use my sailboat) When I notified the marina of the theft, they failed to mention that this happens ALL THE TIME at this marina, and informed me that they have no surveillance cameras on the dry storage yard. Why is there no surveillance cameras? Well, that would mean they would have to do something when one of their customers is a victim of theft. So, all the fences, barbed wire, access gates, and guard shacks are just for show. If you keep your boat here, pony up for the low/zero deductible insurance. You'll need it. The reason it's two stars and not one is that I don't have a problem with the people who work here, most of whom are nice people and seem to mean well. I have a lot of amazing memories sailing out of here, and I'm sad to go. However, it's clear the business is deliberately set up to give exactly zero f#%$s. read more

Kept my 20' yawl here for six months over the other winter. Good people at the marina and nearby at Svendsens. We'll be back! Only gripe would be the location, as it takes an hour or more to get out of the canal through the Oakland container port dead upwind. This place would be ideal if you have a tabernacle or otherwise can slide under the low bridges to the south/west and out the other end of the Alameda estuary. read more

I needed a place to store my classic, restored airstream RV. It had been vandalized slightly on the street and I wanted a safe place to keep it. Calling Alameda Marina by phone I spoke with a pleasant woman who said they had several spaces suitable and when I asked about any pre-conditions or what they needed for rental she indicated just registered vehicle and insurance and that the owner of the vehicle as named on the registration be the person signing the rental paperwork. So the next day I go, taking a multi-hour trip from where the RV was to the A.M. No sooner do I exit the RV to head to the office that a fat, light haired non-tanned version of Donald Trump emerges and tells me that they won't accept the vehicle. I speak with him explaining the classic nature of the vehicle, the value, etc. Net result, they refused AFTER previously saying yes the day before to accept the vehicle. Bad business, bad manners, bad attitude. After reading the boa owner reviews about constant theft and lack of security I think the fates were watching out for me. DO NOT PATRONIZE THESE FOLKS. read more

I won't go into details, but professionalism should be maintained at all times even if one is communicating by telephone. Alameda Marina is probably the best-run marina on the Estuary these days. In an age when harbor masters are being replaced by property owners or simple administrative assistants, Alameda Marina is still owned and managed by actual sailors. People who understand the boater's needs and don't view them as merely renters of a storage space, as is becoming more and more common these days. Alameda Marina (with Svendsen's Boatyard and attendant chandlery onsite) is a great place to keep a boat. read more

Outboard motor theft is rampant at Alameda Marina. I had my boat stored for less than one year and I had my kicker motor stolen in March 2016. After 2 months later, someone was trying to steal my main outboard motor. Alameda Marina management doesn't care much for tenants. Both times, they just say it's not their responsibility of stolen motor. I wasn't ask them to pay for lost items or damages. I wish they will acknowledge the fact that security needs to be improved and have higher urgency to come up with better solution. Also, I asked them to waive my 30 day notice since I don't feel safe to keep my boat at Alameda Marina but they refuse to waive. My warning to anyone thinking about storing your boat here. DON"T DO IT. read more

I have two boats in the water and one in dry storage. I have had boats both in the water and in dry storage for many years. I have found the harbor master Paul, office staff, Eileen and Kathy to be the best of people in helping. I have read the bad reviews and what they seem to miss is that all the marina's in the bay area have a problem with outboard theft. The guard at Alameda marina is always on watch. One of my boats had a hose connected to the cockpit drain break during the rain. The boat began to fill with water. The harbor master brought a portable bilge pump (mine had failed) and installed it in my boat then called me to tell me of the problem. I was able to go down and replace my broken hose and fix the problem. I have had one or two boats at this marina on and off for 30 years. In the 30 years I have dealt with them the best crew and harbor master they have ever had are the people that have working now. I have had boats at Fortman, Emeryville, Oakland, Brisbane and Marina Village. My favorite has been Alameda Marina, which is why I have three boats there now. read more
