    Just in case hunger strikes

Clean restroom with plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and blowers to dry your hands. When we got here, a gentleman was emptying the trash receptacles. The area is clean. It's also well lit with lots of parking spaces. If we'd been hungry, and had time, we would've visited the vending machines. But we wanted to get going.

The Alamance County Rest Stop is one of the nicer rest areas. The design is a little smaller than the others but still plenty of areas to walk around with all of the trees. The restrooms were clean and there is another area for snacks and beverages. There are picnic tables if you want to sit and take a break.

Beautifully landscaped, shaded parking, picnicking and dog exercise area. Clean. Always open. Vending available. Easy on and off the I 40 interstate.

Nice rest area with a waterfall on your way into the building. The restrooms were clean and had paper towels and soap. This was a nice stop.

This is specifically for the Alamance County Rest Area for Interstate 40 East / Interstate 85 North. This is separate from the other rest area for the opposite direction as they are two distinct rest areas. My most recent visit here was on July 30, 2021. While making my way home back to Virginia Beach, it was time to take a break. Those are definitely needed when on the road for a long period of time. When you first come into the rest area, there are separate directions to go in for trucks and cars. Of course, I was in a car. The rest area looked really nice at first glance and it wasn't that busy at the time of the stop too. Ultimately, the first stop was to use the restroom. Generally, all of the NC rest areas are really good about keeping them clean and well maintained, and this was no different here. After taking care of that business, some time was taken to look around the rest area and move a bit before getting back in the car again. It was nice to move around the grounds of the rest area and take in some of the sights that they have at this location. They have a rock fountain not too far outside the main building where the restrooms are located. There are plenty of picnic tables, both covered and uncovered, along with lots of trees and greenery. Another thing that I like is that they have both trash cans and recycling cans to use. Not too far from the main building you will find a separate building for vending to get drinks and snacks to take along the road as well. Overall, this was a great rest area. It was well maintained and managed. There is plenty of open space to stretch those legs and take a break. Restrooms and buildings were clean. What more could you really ask for at a rest area? If your travels take you this way, you should definitely take a break here, even if it's just for a little bit.

Somewhat clean with lovely exterior. Nice water feature. Safe. Vending area. Family restroom available. Convenient access from I-40 east bound.

    Keep on trucking.

Not to be confused with the rest area where I seduced you, which is called Allromance County Rest Area. Perfectly adequate rest area in North Carolina where things are clean and you can have a nap and it's pretty safe. It can get a little busy but then so can your mother's bedroom. The rest areas in North Carolina are generally pretty good and I usually don't feel threatened or anything when sleeping in them.

Nice rest stop with clean facilities. Also included vending machines, picnic tables, and areas to walk pets!

view from bench near vending machines. waterfall is next to flag pole

decent vending + restrooms. truck parking is kinda small. the waterfall & fountain are pretty. and it's a nice area surrounded by forest

Lots of picnic area and benches

Clean restrooms. A lot of parking and parking for Mack trucks. Beautiful scenery and lots of shady areas for eating with benches and picnic tables. Vending machines for snack and drinks. It's very easy to get off and enter interstate. Great place to rest!

Usually clean bathrooms, plenty of picnic tables. I like the little man-made waterfall. Nice pit stop!

A good spot to rest from a couple of hours of intense highway driving. I had to relax my middle finger after flipping off so many highway morons. That little stalk on your steering wheel column? It's not going to bite you, I promise. Do your highway neighbors a favor and SIGNAL when you're changing lanes. Ugh! Anyway, I stopped here and managed to get a half hour nap. Very few parking spaces are in any sort of dark area away from the overhead lights. I suppose this is intentional, but when you want to be out of the light for sleepy time, it's a bummer.

I got lucky and was able to pull up to a pump immediately. By that time, all 16 pumps were taken and there were cars lined up waiting for several of them. It felt like Costco. I had just stuck the nozzle in when a car pulled up behind me. I've never seen a Sheetz so busy (except for when they ran their $1.776 per gallon promotion on July 4, 2023). The gas prices were average. They beat the prices at the Shell I went to the day before in Chapel Hill. This Sheetz is located just off I-85 / I-40 exit 154: NC 119 - Mebane. This is the same exit for the Tanger Outlets and there are a bunch of big-box stores (e.g., Walmart) and fast food chains nearby. Good for Sheetz, but if you're looking for a more-relaxed pit stop along the interstate between the Triangle and the Triad, there are better options: https://www.yelp.com/collection/Ey266j_8lAHk7iQLDODC9g/Carolinas-I-85-Corridor Note: On this concurrency (overlapped stretch) of I-85 and I-40 in North Carolina, the I-85 exit numbers prevail. Those exit numbers are 131 to 163, west to east. The I-40 exit numbers temporarily "stop" between exits 227 and 259 (i.e., the aforementioned exits 131-163 occur during that stretch). This is the only Sheetz in Mebane. Store #380.

This rest area is located on southbound I-95 at mile marker 47 in Cumberland County, North Carolina, near Fayetteville. It serves as the southernmost rest stop in the state before crossing into South Carolina, making it a convenient final pause for travelers heading south. I have stopped here many times on numerous trips over the years, and it has consistently impressed me with its upkeep and amenities. The layout is thoughtful, with separate parking sections for cars and large trucks to ensure safety and organization. Interestingly, the truck parking is positioned closer to the highway, while the car parking is situated farther back, reducing noise for passenger vehicles. There always seems to be plenty of parking available, even during busier travel periods, which is a relief on long drives. The parking areas are centered around two single-story brick buildings that give the site a sturdy, welcoming feel. One building houses the restrooms, which are always clean, well-stocked, and functional, with modern fixtures and good lighting. Adjacent to it is the vending area, offering a selection of snacks, drinks, and quick refreshments for those needing a pick-me-up without leaving the interstate. The entire grounds are impeccably maintained, free of litter both inside the facilities and outside in the parking lots and green spaces. One standout feature is a very nice plaque dedicated to NCDOT employees who were killed in the line of duty--a poignant reminder to drive carefully and appreciate the efforts that keep our roads safe. Adding to the appeal, there are picnic benches scattered on both sides of the car driveway, providing spots to stretch your legs or enjoy a quick meal. Some tables are shaded under trees or canopies for comfort on sunny days, while others are open for those who prefer the sun. The shaded areas make it especially pleasant during warmer weather, and the overall landscaping contributes to a serene atmosphere amid the highway hustle. This rest area isn't overly fancy, but it excels in the basics: cleanliness, convenience, and a touch of thoughtfulness. Overall, it is a very nice rest area that always seems well maintained, and I highly recommend it to fellow travelers needing a reliable break on their journey through North Carolina. Enjoy.

You can download a list from their website and get a lot of good information detailing their locations. The purpose of the rest area is just that, to get a break from the drive, use the restroom, and possibly get a snack. Per their website, "Loitering, camping, soliciting, consuming alcoholic beverages and staying overnight are prohibited. North Carolina's Rest Areas." This one is off the right (west) side of the interstate when traveling south on I-95. The truck parking is closest to the road and the car parking is farthest from the road. There are two car lots and plenty of parking. The building and area look brand new. There are two single-story buildings separated by a covered walkway. One is the welcome center and the other is the restrooms. The restroom building has an open lobby with some very pretty terrazzo designs on the floor. The bathrooms were very clean and it was a nice place to stop. Overall, it was a nice place for a break and I will stop there again if I am passing through and want to stretch my legs or refresh myself on the drive. Enjoy. Added one picture to Google
