We didn't realize this place wasn't one until we entered. But, upon walking in we found some interesting things to look at. Excuse my ignorance, but it seemed to have everything you would typically find in a small Indian supermarket. There was a row with bags of rice, a row of spices, a row of hundreds of box mixes for everything from Curry to Biryani (don't fall for the simplicity of the box... you need to add at least a dozen other items!), a section with imported cookies and snacks, and a section with pots and pans. Some clothes or shawls were hanging on the side room's wall. In the back I thought I saw a chicken being butchered through the doorway, but my wife suggested it might be a lamb shank. Regardless, this is a Halal meat market and the faint of heart should not look in the back. The front counter had some cookies and such, and the store owner offered me a free fried dough item. I gladly accepted his generous gift, though it turned out to be a solid blob of dough without a hint of sugar or sweetness or spice. Since I am rarely looking for Indian spices, I doubt I will be back. However, it was a clean store with a friendly owner and I wish them well.

So, when I first moved to Albany, I was introduced to Hannaford, only because it was walking distance to the apartment I moved into the weekend I arrived. It was a decent set up on Sand Creek Road, and I liked it. Didn't have everything an HEB Plus or Central Market had, but enough for me and my little apartment. Then, I was introduced to Shop Rite, only because they just opened a brand new one on West Central Avenue, which was really nice. I ended up bouncing between both the Hannaford on Sand Creek Road and ShopRite on West Central Avenue. Fast forward a year later, and I moved to downtown Albany, NY. Don't ask. Anyways, there were Hannafords, Shop Rites, and PriceChoppers much closer to where I lived. I shopped all of them, and I think I rated all of them. They are all decent, but missing what I miss from Texas. Fast forward a year after that, and someone from work told me about the amazing Market 32 in Latham, that should have been named Market 32 PLUS like HEB did with their upscale supermarkets. I went there and I was hooked. It was almost nearly similar to an HEB Plus. Not just in all the produce and products they had available, but also in the service. Now, it is about a 10 minute - 15 minute drive, versus a couple minutes for the others. But the nice thing is that if I need to shop for EVERYTHING, I can find it here. I don't need to take a side stop to Whole Paycheck or Dishonest Weight CoOp. This place has it all, and I love it until the next late and great super shopping center in the area.
