Shelves were full and nicely stocked. There were a good selection of ME food and grocery and meat which was nice to see. Place was relatively clean. read more

Been coming here since the sign read eat for a dollar $. Yes, a long time ago these were a 1$ and some for the meat pie. I hadn't visited this particular OG location in years so when I was in the area, I had to indulge in a meat/cheese $4.00. The location has gone through renovations and has upgraded. A sign reads cash only to keep prices low. Two pies are typically enough to keep your hunger satisfied. The store sells various drinks/snacks along with an assortment of pies. Spinach, meat, cheese, zaatar, potato & much more. Collaboratively working well, once you order, the service is quick. I picked up a few pies. First bite, I noticed a change in the flavor. It tasted as though the filling is a combination of different meat, maybe lamb? Its hard to pinpoint, Its not the end of the world, but the flavor that I have always known has changed. That was the case with the whole batch we picked up even the young children didn't finish it. Overall, I do recommend Alladin, always a friendly service and plenty of options to choose from. read more

This is my absolute favourite place in the city. I don't know why it doesn't have more reviews since it always has long line ups every time I go! The lines move pretty fast since they make their meat and cheese pies so quickly. Last time I went, I got mine fresh out of the oven, and the were so crispy on the outside and ooey gooey cheesy on the inside. Pro tip, the food always smells so good but you should wait a bit so that the meat and the cheese and solidify a bit! We usually grab 3 of these and they always come under $10. Not many places that can match that! read more

Aladdin Convenience & Bakery - a woman standing in front of a window - Bakeries Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

I stopped here for the first time and picked up two cheese pies. The price was $4 each. Pies were very good, only issue was they only take cash. No debit, no credit. Only cash! I likely won't be back as I rarely have cash. Though they have an ATM machine in house, I don't like the crazy charges they force you to pu to get cash. read more

My coworker took me here on our way to an off-site meeting and I can't believe I had never been before! There are a couple of Aladdin Bakeries in the city, the other one on St. Laurent - I think they might be the same company since their decor is the same, but I'm not 100% sure. The difference with this one is that there are a few fridges with other simple grocery items. I got one cheese pie and one zaatar pie, both under $5 each. They were heated and toasted in the wood burning oven, which gave it an edge in my book. They were larger than I thought they'd be and the bread was a lot thicker than I've had at other places. I do wish, though, that there was more cheese, so next time I might just get the zaatar and cheese and/or the pie with extra cheese instead of regular. Then again, I'm pretty cheese-obsessed, so take that for what it is :) I also grabbed some labneh from the fridge, which I have such a hard time finding at any of the grocery stores near me. It was busy during the weekday lunch rush and I can see why. Quick, cheap, pretty tasty, filling. Service was friendly, too. Will be back next time I'm in the area! read more

Just updating the prices. As of September 2018 the meat pies are now $2.50, and the meat and cheese pies are $3.25. Everything else in the review remains the same... Original review: I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this place yet. It's where I was first introduced to Lebanese meat pies oh so many moons ago. The place has recently expanded and the renovations make the place look more modern as well as bigger. They have a television that displays their menu now. Their meat pies ($1.75) and meat and cheese pies ($2.50) are the best in the city, in my opinion. The meat has a smoky taste to it (maybe they use smoked paprika, I don't know, but it's so tasty) and the cheese is plentiful and gooey. I usually stick with those, but they also have other pies like cheese, meat and potato, and cheese and spinach. They are also a convenience store, so they sell newspapers, magazines and shelf-stable goods. I just go there for the meat pies though. I would give this place 5 stars if the guys preparing the pies wore gloves when touching your food (seeing as how they handle the pies after they are cooked) and they sometimes also handle the cash register. read more

A fantastically underrated place! Run, don't walk, when you are in Ottawa next. I used to frequent this place for different pies when I was in elementary school. I returned recently and was so happy to see the same love and quality! I walked out with three cheese pies and two meat and cheese pies. The cheese pies are super fluffy and savoury. The meat and cheese pies are on a crispier bread with deliciously spiced meat. Get both. Get many. They're warmed up for you on the spot and it's near impossible to not devour immediately. I also picked up a tray of baklava. A big note: it is cash only, but there is an ATM on site. There's also a convenience store in the same place, so you can get a lot in one place! read more

Great place highly recommended - cash only. Cheese pies and meat pies are delicious. read more

I am Lebanese and have had manaeesh all over Canada, USA and Lebanon. But let me tell you, these are probably the best I have ever had. They are light, not greasy/oily and super tasty. The dough is very good! Expect to wait a little because every time I come I see a long lineup (indication of tastiness mm). Also, limited seating (maybe a maximum of 12 seats). They have all sorts of pies (cheese, meat, zaatar etc.) and everything looks appetizing. The store itself is relatively clean (I was pleasantly surprised). The reason my rating lacks 1 star is because the washroom was not clean at all. Cleanliness is huge to me, and the cleanliness of a washroom indicates overall hygiene of restaurant owners. In terms of service, there is not much interaction other than ordering at the cash. Service was fast and nice. Nothing much more to add here. read more

If you're looking for a tasty, quick, and satisfying bite to eat, look no further! The Lebanese pies here have a great complex flavour to them compared to other places. They pre-make them and heat them up when you arrive and choose which ones you want. I got 7 pies (for about $15 total which was great as you can re heat them later and it still tastes good)! - Meat and cheese x2: easily the best! The gooey cheese goes great with the meat, and you can add spice to any pies to make them spicy. I wish I got all meat and cheese... - Zaatar x2: really interesting mix of spices and herbs, it may not be to your liking...but you'll never know until you try it! The pita for this one is thicker than the one for the meat and cheese pie. - Cream cheese and olive x2 (Labne-Olive): Interesting taste, it had a lot of onions, but was sur in an odd way for my tastes. - Baklava, smallest box: They have small and larger sizes of baklava boxes. Good taste, but I would go to an actual bakery to get fresh ones (but I was REALLY craving some and was lazy to go elsewhere so I bought a box) They also have roasted nuts, and a ton of drinks you can purchase. NOTE: CASH ONLY. No credit nor debit! They have an ATM on site though. read more

Aladdin Convenience & Bakery - Meat & cheese pie - Bakeries Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

Aladdin Bakery a small little shop that just pulls you in every time you drive by. Whenever I have a chance this is my place for a quick healthy and very affordable lunch, dinner, snack you can get in the city. My favourite is their spiced ground beef pie with or without the cheese, just roll it up and eat. I personally like it really spicy, so I ask for lots of chili powder.a The zaatar pie is just an amazing blend of spices. my daughter will tuck into her zaatar with chili powder. I like it with chili powder, onions and olives. This is the only place in town that I can walk in and spend less than $5 dollars and walk away with one of the healthiest and tastiest meal. Avoid the lunch hour if you want fast service, they get bombarded by students from several local high schools, plus the regular customers. Parking is a challenge, so you might want to find a place around the corner. Eat inside and take one for the road. My children like taking the spiced ground beef with cheese, the all cheese and zaatar pies as their school lunch. Oh yeah, they freeze well, by a dozen and ask them to be unfolded and not hot. Then just place individually between wax paper. Take them out when you're hungry and heat them up in the oven. Don't microwave them, they go soggy and don't take as nice. Okay now I am really hungry. read more

I discovered this family-run store a couple years back through a friend. In recent years, they undergone a major renovation that opens up the previous small shop look, now offering gelato and other desserts and delicacies. The smoky taste of the wood oven pies and the affordable prices really draw you in, with meat pies at $1.75, cheese pies at $2.25, and many Lebanese foods and drinks. Definitely recommend for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack with a $5 bill in hand. Be wary for the location is near 3 schools, as lunch time yields a long line that may even lead out of the door. read more

I love their pastries, always fresh always super good. Coming from Israel this is they type of food I am used to and I missed it since I moved from Montreal (where I knew where to find it). So glad I stumble upon this place which is so close to my kid school. i guess we have a new after school-snack stop. read more

It's been a while since I went to Aladdin. All I remember is, it was incredible. Soft and hot pita surrounding fresh savoury meat blends. This is the right way to do a meat pie. So much better than the Australian style ones we had in LA. This place is also reasonably priced. A perfect choice on your way to the beach! read more

The staff is very rude. We asked them for a za'atar pie on thin bread and watched other pies come out that were ordered after mine. Then they told us. They dont make new pies. They just heat up the premade ones. This the last time we will be getting food from there. read more

Best Lebanese pies in the city. My go-to lunch spot. Affordable and great tasting. The parking can be a challenge as the spots are limited and the on street parking isn't too close. But that doesn't take away from the 5 star review for the food. read more

This place is fantastic. Take a twonie and get a satisfying lunch. Pita baked in front of you in a wood burning oven then stuffed with delicious cheese, cheese and potatoes, spiced ground beef, spiced vegetables. Economical, delicious, authentic. read more

Food was pretty good, though my cheese pie didn't have enough cheese. On the other hand, my friend's meat and cheese was perfect. They have a great selection of drinks, desserts and food with reasonable prices. The staff was quiet, but friendly. I wish they had more seating and the "cash only" policy is definitely sketchy. read more

I was one of the first customers of this establishment, probably 16 or 17 years ago when I was a high-school student. The assortment of Lebanese pies here is always good: meat, cheese, thyme or pockets with cream-cheese and olives. All very tasty, a good quick bite on the go and reasonably priced. read more

A must try for cheap eats in Ottawa! A very memorable experience of a unique dish, the Lebanese meat pie. It reminded me of a combination of things I love like pizza and tacos. The ovens are right behind the counter so you get a hot meat pie fresh after you order. A nice burnt/smokey flavor is imparted into the pie dough which accents the meat and cheese filling. It's a very handheld and practical dish. It's quite better than I ever thought it would be. I'm so glad I found this place. I'm surprised to see so few reviews, come on guys, give it a try! read more

Can't go wrong with Aladdin. They've got hit it pretty spot on at both their locations. Consistent quality but my favorite is how fast it is. Always a good snack. read more

I had never had Middle Eastern meat pies before my daughter introduced me to them at Aladdin's. Now I love them. However, over the past few years, the prices have gone up, and the meat pies have less meat in them. They are still delicious. I have since tried meat pies at other places and Aladdin's is still one of my favourites. read more

Stay away! The most disrespectful in Ottawa. After ordering, the cashier tells me they don't have a debit or credit machine, he tells to withdraw from an ATM behind him which costs 2$, or walk to the gas station a couple of blocks away. After paying and getting change back I notice I'm short, and after telling him and asking for my receipt the cashier screams at me and tells me to come over so he can search me that I don't have the change he gave me (which isn't there anyway). And how does it end after I refuse to be searched... He kicks me out telling me not to return again. What I should have done, to prove it's not the money but the disrespect and humiliation, was throw the food back at his counter and walk out. As for their food... It sucks... Low quality chewy pink meat, raw crunchy potatoes, bad seasoning and doesn't taste good. Staff hygiene? Better if they work in car repair or gas station. Disgusting. Dirty hands, dirty uniforms, no hats or caps. Stay away. read more

If you're looking for a quick lunch or snack this is the place to go! Great prices and extremely friendly and helpful staff. I went in for the first time not knowing that you could only pay with cash, the owner gave me my first cheese pie on the house (and it was delicious). I will definitely go out of my way to eat here again. read more

I recently discovered Aladdin's in it's conveniently location near the Produce Depot where I also shop. It's going to soon become my quick go-to place for short cut lunch solutions. Their veggie Zaatar sandwich is deliciously herby and filled with onions, green olives and tomatoes. It's a filling snack or lunch, depending on your appetite. The meat triangles are even more filling and the meat pies (a pita smothered in ground meat, tomatoes and onions) with the additional spice and lemon are a great non-veg alternative. Today I spent a total of $25 for four meat pies, two spinach pies, two veggie zaatar sandwiches and two meat and cheese pies. What an amazing bargain! read more

Delish meat pies, fresh and hot. I go there around once every few months for my fix. It's not super close to my house so if I'm in that area I stop in. Great value for the food. read more

they are the initiators of meat pies in the city and by far the best!!! lunch time can be hectic but its swift. prices are extremely low. only two tables to eat in so i would recommend to eat out. Reason i give a 4-rating is to reflect the size for dining in. they have expanded the place but its still too small. read more
