In regards to Alabama Orthopaedic Clinic in Mobile, AL, more specifically, Dr Matthew Barber...(I have not experienced any other professional at this facility): I am certain that Dr. Matthew Barber truly is the excellent surgeon that he boasts in all of his muscle-bare posters scattered every 15 feet or so throughout the clinic. But only as long as you have the proper insurance and can pay the additional thousands of dollars in co-pays and additional fees. BUT, if you DON'T have the proper insurance, and a wad of cash stashed under your mattress, well then, you might as well just move along. That is to say, within the constraints of your physical ability to move at all! So if you find, while trying to find other means of obtaining the procedure you so desperately need, that you only require a minimal form to accompany an application for said assistance, in order to get back being a productive member of society, don't expect any help with that! A simple form, a half page piece of paper, nothing more than a few scribbles, the only thing left standing in the way of just sending the application for assistance....well, you better just go back and start over with another, EQUALLY talented surgeon, because Dr. Matthew Barber just doesn't have time to consider anything that he cannot place on his list of super-human achievements. read more

The wait time wasn't so bad. The staff is considerate and professional. I went in for steroid shots in my neck and Dr Cockrell was my doctor and he is very explanatory and very caring in the way he talks to you. They always make sure you're alright through the entire process. I am picky about everything and especially my personal doctor. I live almost an hour from mobile in traffic, in Daphne and I will continue to travel that distance because of Dr Cockrell and his staff. read more

I wonder if the Doctors in the Pain Management Clinic even know what goes on before they even see a patient? If I could leave a ZERO, it would be here. I have been a patient at AOC for several years now and have seen several different doctors. I have never been so disgusted with the lack of professionalism at a Physicians office. My time is valuable too. Imagine arriving to your appointment on time, based on the many text messages received, and being sent away. I left the jobsite at Gulf Shores (WHERE MY LINE OF WORK IS VERY IMPORTANT TOO) to be there by the time given to me, just to have a nasty little receptionist tell me I was an hour late. Of course I am going to be angry and frustrated. She smugly told me that I was to be there for my first appointment with them an hour early. AGAIN, I'm very busy and have a lot to do for my own business. Why in the world would you text a time other than the time you're supposed to be there? So, no, not only have I not gotten established with PAIN MANAGEMENT clinic, I received a letter from the P.A., Judith Blake, telling me I've been informed of an unspecified termination. Dr Revels cut me open 3 times in 4 months open back, every time i got worse and worse. The reason for the 4th time was B/C of his negligence of over tighten the hard ware and crushing the bone that he attached to. Now I cant get out of bed with out help. I will not be recommending AOC to any of my family or friends in the foreseeable future. My significant other was recently seen by Dr Hudgens, [ upon referral from another physician ] with regards to complications involving her back. While her initial consultation went well, her follow-up with Dr Hudgens staff, along with communications from him disregarding her ailments and requests for further treatments, have been abysmal. She is in a rather difficult predicament with her employer, as to needing proper documentation to justify her absence. And with Dr Hudgens blatantly disregarding the seriousness of my sweetheart's pain, I can't imagine referring anyone I know to his practice. One of the last things Dr Hudgen's nurse said to my fiancé, was to seek further help at the place that had referred her in the first place. [ an urgent care clinic] I would certainly expect more from a specialist physician, with the very last recommendation being, to start over from step one. And with that, I hope others heed this advice in the future. If a proper resolution to this whole mess is achieved, I will remove this review or provide an update in the future. But I highly doubt that will happen. read more

I'm only a month post op, and still doing in-home physical therapy for my hip replacement. I'm still using a walker if I go outside. I use a cane indoors. If I'm gonna be to where I need to be really mobile for a while, I use my electric wheelchair. At least all of the terrible pain is gone, and I enjoy being out and about and can genuinely smile when I am... I'll always thank Dr. Zarzour, Sam and the whole staff for their professionalism and the quality of life improvement that they afforded me and ultimately my family too. I had a pretty bad experience. The doctor was fine enough I guess. I felt like I was being treated like parts on a car. Everything was SO overly expensive. Honestly, I couldn't afford the follow up visit. The consultation with the nurse was just awful. She made it seem as though I had to answer the questions she was asking a certain way "for insurance reasons". Just red flags everywhere. I have fairly decent insurance and I paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars out of pocket to talk to a doctor for 5 minutes and leave without the doctor ever touching me or any type of diagnosis. I hate to say it, but the entire business model seemed like a racket to me. read more

Terrible experience with this place. Initial consultation was fine. They determine a mri was needed but they will need to request this from BCBS. They say it takes about 2 weeks so dont call to check status for 2 weeks. Week 3 we check - they say waiting on bcbs. Week 4 we check - they say waiting on bcbs. So we call bcbs. Have 3 way call with bcbs and AOC. AOC employee admits they havent asked bcbs for permission to do mri bc they are waiting on dr's (boatwright) notes. I immediately call drs nurse. Of course no answer - so leave message stating my annoyance with this latest bit of news. 2 days later still no response from the nurse or AOC. Very nice facility. They must charge a lot when they actually do something. Never made it that far. Will be going elsewhere. read more

Dr Granberry replace my hip on February 24 and I cannot say enough about the excellent results. My hip was so bad I could not walk. Now i am walking 2-4 times a day with no pain. Please think twice before using AOC. Recent experience very unprofessional and lacking in pain relief and call back. My Dr. Crotwell is not interested in your pain or finding a correct diagnosis, in my personal experience. Any laymen knows a basic x ray will not expose a rotator cuff injury or tear. The longer you fail to correctly dismiss this diagnosis with a needed MRI, the longer and more damaging the injury becomes. Amazing he and staff seem to ignore more requests for horrible pain. After my first Achilles surgery I went to another PT group. We did the same thing over and over, i continued to complain about pain but after 6 months of PT i was discharged but no better. Turned out that my surgery had not worked and i needed a full Achilles replacement. The other PT place disregarded my complaints. Now after the 2nd surgery i came here. The staff is great. They are constantly progressing my therapy. Wish i had come here first. I am sure they would have caught that I wasn't getting better. read more

If I can leave less than one star I will. I signed in to see Dr. Crotwell at 9:19 a.m. and I am still, right this second at 10:57 sitting in the waiting room waiting to see the doctor. I have seen food paid for by pharmaceutical reps being brought in by the cartful, so they can bribe our doctors to prescribe unaffordable medicine. I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am at the lack of service here. If I scheduled an appointment that I was an hour and a half late for there is no way I would still be in business. We must have socialized health care so insurance companies and doctors stop killing us. Make no mistake, the doctors are at fault, as they allowed insurance and pharmaceutical companies to let this happen to our healthcare. I am disgusted. read more

Do not waste your time. I have a lot of issues with my back. I scheduled an appointment with one of the doctors there. I will not say that doctor's name because I don't know how he is as a "doctor ". I will talk about the incompetence of the rest of AOC. I went in and had x-rays, etc.to show how bad my back truly is and how much pain I am in. I have to be hurting alot to go see a doctor because I don't trust them. On July 29,21 I went in. The doctor ordered MRI's . Me and doctor had our "talk" about pills. I know that is only temporary and I got hooked on opiods a long time ago from time ago from the exact same place. I am only looking for treatment, that's it. Long story short, insurance denied me (that's another story) . I called my insurance company and found out that I can still have the MRI's if the doctor would call and set up a "peer to peer" talk with them. A few weeks go by ,I haven't heard a word from the doctors office. I get a letter in the mail stating about the peer to peer talk. I waited a couple of days (I know that I'm not the only patient they have and I was trying to give them time to get this done. I haven't heard from them yet so I take the letter to them, this was on August 10th. The nurse came out there and took it and made copies. I'm leaving there thinking this is fixing to happen. Wrong!!! Today is August 31st and I just got off the phone with my insurance company again and found out that this doctors office scheduled the peer to peer on August 27th for the talk to happen on August 30th. The only reason this happened is because I got a bill from them (AOC) so I called them. I told them they were NOT going to get another penny out of me until they did their job. Sad thing is, money is what motivated them not actually wanting to help me. I have had a horrible experience with them on several occasions throughout my life and I promise I will NOT go back there again. I hope my experience will help someone else. read more

I arrived early as a new patient. The receptionist was chewing gum and talking with another person behind the counter. She finally acknowledged me and asked for my insurance cards. I gave them to her and answered some questions. She then handed me an iPad-type device and told me to go sit down and fill out the questions on the screen. A lot of the information asked for on the device was the same info I had just given her. I completed all the questions (which was laborious) and returned the device to her at the counter. She told me again to sit down and they would call me. I waited an hour and 10 minutes past the appointed time and with no further communication from anyone, I finally left. I had to take my dad here for an appointment for his chronic shoulder pain. The building is 3 stories, and has the docs situated on the 2nd floor, and physical therapy on the 3rd. First floor seems to be a coffee stand or something. It was our first time here, and I was a little apprehensive of how the experience was going to be. From past excursions to various doctors, I'm not really thrilled about the expertise nor bedside manner of most of the ones we've seen (a primary care doc not only misdiagnosed my dad and almost killed him, but also had an extremely douchy attitude towards us). However, I need not have worried. The staff was extremely efficient and helpful. The nurse that called our name not only rounded us up, but 2 other parties as well. He then put us all into our respective rooms, and then also ferried us back and forth to x-rays. Another nurse also personally showed us to the restrooms, which was astounding. I've never encountered staff before that was so willing to help someone--most of them usually just point at the general direction and instruct you on how to get there. But these folks weren't like that at all; someone was always on hand to walk you to and from your destination. Amazing! The doctor (Roca) also seemed kind while maintaining a professional demeanor. He took the time to shake our hands before launching into the exam, and then also again before he left. I'm pretty impressed with the clinic overall. It gives me hope that there are some places that still believe in good ole Southern hospitality. read more

Wonderful experience with Doctor Zarzour. Full hip replacement. He was always professional, patient and knowledgeable. I have had pain for years and received so many diagnoses. He was the one who found the actually cause of my pain and offered a fix. I have NO pain and couldn't be more happy. Don't hesitate if you need a hip replacement. You are in good hands! read more

My daughter has a genetic bone disorder that was discovered when she was 1. We initially went to see Dr. Nimit, and although I think he is great and he was my own surgeon many years ago, his bedside manner leaves something to be desired. I wanted a doctor that I could talk to and when my daughter was old enough, one that she is comfortable talking to and asking questions. We were referred to Dr. Adam Handwerger and I couldn't be more pleased. We have seen him at least twice a year since she was two (she is 6 now) and she adores him. He speaks to her and explains things in a way that she can understand and he is the first doctor that has given the disorder and name and explained what that meant for us. I have no bad words to say about him or the clinic. Everyone is always very kind, from the receptionists to the x-ray techs and nurses. We love them! read more

Rave reviews for Dr. Zarzour and staff ! I can't say the same for their Physical Therapy services. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was 15 minutes late for my appointment. I was turned away and told I needed to reschedule my appointment. I had just driven all the way from West Mobile and needless to say this made me pretty angry! I have read their entire website and there is no such policy anywhere to be found. I still don't know who the receptionist went to ask about this, but I feel it was a poor decision , since I still had 45 minutes left of my appointment. I could have easily done my therapy in that time, as I have had to wait that long or more for my therapy to begin. I will never use them in the future as I felt extremely irritated and that I was not important enough to them to matter. read more

Incompetent employees - They canceled appointment for 10/31 at Mobile Infirmary Office then rescheduled appointment for 11/1 - came to Mobile Infirmary Office and was told "oh Dr is only here on Tuesdays and Thursdays he is at Springhill office on Friday" - was NOT informed of this when appointment was rescheduled. Then was told we would have to reschedule again because there wasn't enough time to travel from Mobile Infirmary to Springhill Medical. No apology for the mix up or inconvenience it caused us. She was more concerned with getting off work then caring for the patient. read more

Dr Granberry is great, he takes time with you and discusses what's going on and makes sure that you understand the treatment plan. He doesn't rush in and out like most Dr's do, his nurses are the best as well, always very nice and professional. The clinic is very busy but wait times are not usually that long. Don't know about the rest of the crew here but would definitely recommend Dr Granberry if your looking. read more

My husband had knee surgery and it did not repair the knee. They elected to do injections and of course they did not help him. Instead they made it to where he couldn't walk. Their answer was "you must of had an allergic reaction, take some Benadryl" well when your husband can't walk and has no feeling in his leg below the knee that is not the answer. They didn't even offer to get into his doctor or a different doctor. My recommendation is to not use this facility AT ALL! Find a different facility. read more

My horrible experience was because of Dr. Adam Handwerger. We gave the doctor no reason to act the way he acted, I do not know why he acted in such a manner. I'm not sure if it had to do with our accent or our origin but he was very disrespectful to us to the point that the only explanation is that he is racist (he slammed the door in my face at the end). I recently had surgery done on my arm. I was totally impressed by the professionalism of all the staff and the way they treat patients. Everything I had to have done was reviewed with me 3 times so I new exactly what was going to be done. The day of the surgery was executed like a well oiled machine. The nurses and anesthesia department were very professional. As to the surgery and recoup time...Ii was well coached on what to expect and felt no pain at all. This team was the best of team and procedures of any I have ever had. This is important as I need to have the same surgery on my other arm too. Thank you AOC to set so high a bar for others to meet. I fractured my wrist 2 weeks ago and went to urgent care by Spring Hill College (they were amazing by the way). They gave me a brace and referred me to AOC. I called multiple times only to be transferred to the triage nurse and I had to leave several messages to get through to her. I finally made an appointment but when I got to AOC for my appointment there was no record of me or my appointment any where in their system. The people at the front desk tried to tell me that I was at the wrong place even though I had AOC's phone number in my phone. I was (and still am) extremely frustrated because I had to take time out of my day and my roommate's day so she could drive me. I don't know who screwed up but I'm going to have my wrist looked at by a trusted orthopedist in Atlanta, GA when I go home this weekend. Long story short- don't waste your time. read more

I saw Dr. Shell, and the experience was very disappointing. He basically told me that his neck hurts, too, and dismissed my concerns that my chronic problem may have been made worse by a recent auto accident. He prescribed PT without further imaging. I would be a fool to go through PT with my history without having an MRI. I only saw him because I was referred by Urgent Care, and the appointment was sooner than I could get in to see my regular ortho. I wouldn't allow this man to treat one of my dogs. I won't even get started on the nurse(?)/medical assistant(?) person who took my patient history. Maybe I'll edit and add all that later. The building is nice though, so that's worth the one star. read more

Saw Dr. Roca. I am not one to complain but felt compelled to get on here to try and warn others. He first told me I had a sprained shoulder and should continue exercising it to try and work through the pain. 1 week Later when I came back again with persistent pain he told me I had carpel tunnel. I asked if I could have an MRI done to be sure and he got very defensive and told me no, and that he was the doctor. I went to another dr who ordered an MRI and discovered I have 3 herniated disc in my spine amongst other problems. Its not that Dr. Roca is rude, he is also a dangerously irresponsible Doctor. I strongly recommend The Orthopedic Group over Alabama Orthopedic. Not just the doctor but also the facilities are much better. read more

This review is about Alabama Orthopadics and particularly a nurse practitioner name Sharon Ganey. To those who have to see this awful person, I apologize. I was with Dr. Cockrell for years until he decided to quit doing pain management. I was given to another doctor who I never even saw, all I saw was Sharon and wish I had never seen her at all. Where to begin. Wait times increased to 4 hours at times. Sharon is the least compassionate person and has no empathy whatsoever. She asked me to do something to continue being seen, which I DID. She then told me it was not good enough, told me they would not see me again and threw me out of the office. She also LIED to my face about a previous conversation and I have the medical records to prove it. This place a crap hole. I had MRI's done there, injections, spent literally 1000's of dollars in this place. I really miss Dr. Cockrell. I now have no doctor at all. I am meeting with my attorney to discuss the situation, possible legal action and writing a complaint to the medical board about Sharon, she has no business being in medicine. Plus, I think it might be malpracticce to throw a patient out of the clinic. She seems to believe everyone is a liar and a druggie or something. Funny thing is I do not even drink!!! Treated just horribly. Save your self some heartache an go somewhere else. read more

Have seen 2 doctors here - both did good work, pleasant, but busy, so do not expect a lot of time with the doctor. Only complaint is that to get a handicap placard, you have to pay $10 for the doctor to sign the application, and it takes 7-10 days. When you are not very mobile, which I am sure is true of many of their patients, not having a handicap placard for almost 2 weeks is rough. And next thing you know, we will have to pay the physician to sign for a prescription. read more

The nurse that worked on the afternoon of September 3rd at the Dauphin Street/Airport Boulevard Service Road location proceeded to talk down to me like a common med-seeking addict requiring me to try and explain myself while I was in front of everyone in not one, but two waiting rooms when I had inquired about the prescription from that visit that was not allowed to be filled until the 5th (one day overdue). The 31st day of August was unaccounted for, therefore had a late fill due date by their records. She then accused the pharmacy of filling it two days early (8-4, the date I was called by the office to come pick it up on) because my appointment in August wasn't scheduled until the 13th) when there was clearly a note written on the Rx by the nurse at that time stating, "Do Not Fill Before 8-6" which the pharmacy is required to follow by law and has not been filled on 8-4 as I was accused of having done. All of this through a glass hole with an audience. When I tried to explain this and that I would be going through withdrawal with a six year old to take of on my own, she didn't seem to care (sucks for you, not me attitude). She then printed out her "record" of when she claimed I filled it and also accused me of not taking them as directed. When I tried to explain that I have and the date is overdue, her response was then, "Well then you should know how to take them. Right?" I have sent copies of my pharmacy's record of all of the actual fill dates and amounts per fill as I fill them in partials weekly, not in full as well as the fact that I have taken them as prescribed every month and that the actual fill due date was the 4th of September and not the 5th. I do not appreciate that she thinks its ok to treat someone they get $100 -$146 a month from. If I didn't actually needneed the medication, I wouldn't stand for this. I have been a patient for the last five years, never misused my medicine, always paid my balance that was past due, kept my balance in good standing order, always tested negative on all my urinalysis, have never made a scene when they were short-staffed and it had been an hour before I got called back and I simply ask for the same respect that I have shown to them. This isn't the first I've dealt with attitude at this location. I would like to be seen at the Mobile Infirmary location from now on, please. I've left a message to the supervisor and nurse with no call-back. Seems like this treatment of their patients is just normal for them and no one really cares. read more

My problem is with Dr. Hudgens nurse, not the doctor himself. My husband was in his office the week of Thanksgiving with severe back pain, to the point that he couldn't walk. Dr. Hudgens gave him a shot in his muscle and said to call or come back in a few days if it didn't help. 5 days later, he left a message with the nurse, but couldn't wait for her to call back, so he headed down to the office, in hopes to be worked in or to get an appt. with someone. The nurse came out to the waiting room as he was laying out in the floor and said that he would have to give her time to call him back, that coming down there would not get him an appt. faster. The doctor was in surgery and she said that he couldn't be seen until the end of December, and that there is nothing else the doctor could do for him. when he said he would be heading to the ER, she told him they wouldn't be able to help him at all. This woman is clearly in the wrong line of work. To see a patient lay out in a nasty waiting room floor because he cannot walk or sit up, and to talk to him in this manner is clearly unacceptable! read more

I have nothing but good to say about Dr. Burkette. When my mother broke her hip, he held my hand and walked me through everything we had to go through for 4 weeks until we could get hip set and her back up and going. Very professional and the office staff is very efficient and I would recommend their office. read more
