The reason I didn't give them five stars is not based on the quality of their work, but on the billing. My bills were often several times more than expected. Some of that is normal--one finds unexpected issues in an older house. My frustration was due to the office. Trying to get details from the office people, about either parts or hours, was like pulling teeth. They hated answering questions, often misunderstanding and overreacting to even a simply enquiry. In terms of parts: if they have to go to Home Depot and get parts, you will be paying for their time to get the parts. That's fine. But from what I could find out, there was also a serious upcharge on those same parts. This may in fact be industry standard, but to me, it seems like double dipping. I would expect to pay an upcharge for parts they keep in stock, but then, I'm not paying for the person's time acquiring the parts. Here, I was paying for both. (I'd recommend going with them to the hardware store and just paying for the parts yourself. The price different is significant.) In terms of time: Hours billed always considerably longer than I expected. Some of that is disposal, etc. But there was a time when the person left before completing a minor task. I had to call him back. It took some time before he returned. I was curious to know: Since this was the technician's mistake, did I pay for all that extra travel time? I never found out. I asked, not for the total hours, but for the times that made up those hours (clearly, you'd need to know the time frames in order to count the time?). Never got an answer. The regular office person refused to answer and finally passed me to her supervisor, who sent me a form email and then never responded to the actual question. Bottom line? If you want the job done well and don't care about details or cost, they're a great choice. I don't see myself calling them again.

They came out right away, found the leak and installed a new sink, faucet, filtered water attachment and repaired and replaced the damaged portion of the cabinet that had been damaged. I'm not sure there is anything they can't do! They advised us on the right type of equipment to purchases and did an excellent job of communicating every step of the way. Extremely Disappointed - Problem Not Fixed and Overcharged…read more I had a very frustrating experience with Roto-Rooter. I called them to fix a plumbing issue, and not only did they fail to resolve the problem, but they also overcharged me significantly for the service. When I brought this to the attention of the owner, instead of addressing my concerns or offering a resolution, he told me that I would be placed on a list so they would never return to my home. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. As a paying customer, I expected at least a basic level of accountability and customer service. Instead, I was met with dismissiveness and what felt like retaliation for speaking up. I would not recommend Roto-Rooter to anyone looking for reliable service or fair treatment. There are plenty of other companies out there who value their customers and stand behind their work. Needless to say, I contacted another plumbing company (Ruger Drain Cleaning) that was reasonably fair in price and fixed my issue was even willingness to come back out at no charge if I still had an issue afterwards. Looking for someone in the Waterloo, IA area I definitely wouldn't recommend them, but would recommend Ruger Drain Cleaning 10 out of 10.

They replaced the lower heating element and the bill was 400 $. Two months later in January 2026 the water heater stopped heating water again. We called Crystal Heating & Plumbing to look at the problem. They told us that the lower heating element needs replacement and also the lower thermostat needs to be replaced. The cost was to be 350$ just for the parts. We could not believe that we need to replace the part that was already replaced 2 months ago and that their diagnosis of thermostat is truthful. Decided to call Rheem technician to help us diagnose the water heater problem. It shows that thermostats are good and the lower heating element needs to be replaced. We just had it replaced 2 months earlier by Crystal Heating & Plumbing and they again wanted to do the same job and have us pay 350$ for parts and unspecified amount for the work to be done !?! Because they lied to us about the thermostat and the lower element was just replaced by them we decided to have it fixed ourselves. The parts that supposed to be 350$ we bought for 70$. After draining the water heater we unscrewed the lower heating element and it was all covered by 1/4 inch calcium deposit. ????? That was not possible in case if the part was replaced 2 months ago. They did not do that, just charged for it. It is impossible for heating element to get so much sediment in 2 months !!!!!!!!!!! We screwed back the newly purchased part and the hot water was back. We write the review to let other people know how deceitful and untrustworthy people working for Crystal Heating & Plumbing are. They refused to acknowledge the scam and refused to refund the money for previous fictitious repair. Stay away from them unless you want to be cheated.

Legal fees not worth fighting the over estimated cost. I have never been this disappointed with a local business in my entire life. My family has been dealing with this company for 4 generations and have provided them tens of thousands of dollars of business. It's incredibly discouraging that individuals do business this way. Learn from the trust this business broke and steer clear of them like the plague.
