recently ordered rifle scope online. I received an opened package with some wear marks or scuffs on the raised parts of the optic. This item is clearly a display/demonstration model despite my payment of full price! The seller also didn't advertise this fact. I find this deceptive because one pays full price for something that is less! I wouldn't order from them again. read more

Enormously helpful. The only outdoor store to actually pick up the phone, which they did within a few rings, and then proceeded to provide helpful information. - Affordable options Save yourself the trouble and don't bother with MEC--check the Al Flaherty website, call them with any questions, and arrange to pick it up. The best store that I have even known for fishing tackle and supplies. They have everything at6 reasonable prices.

If you'd like to become a mercenary, living in the woods of the Don Valley Ravine, hidden from sight and hunting the most dangerous animal of all (man), this is the place to start. It has everything for the hunter/fisher/camper/survivalist. I came in looking for a small, but heavy duty flashlight and came out with said flashlight, a Leatherman and a sharpening stone for my garden tools. The staff was very helpful and polite and it seems like a family place, despite the crossbows and machetes on display. I'm not much of an outdoorsperson, but they have a crazy variety of everything and it all looks good quality. Much better than what you'd get at a Canadian Tire. Definitely a neat place to get lost in. I'll definitely be back next time I'm going on a camping trip, or just finding stuff to add to my apocalypse preparedness kit. read more

I went in last year looking around hoping to buy a 9mm norinco 1911. One of the staff was really strange and pointedly asked my friend and I what were were looking for around 3-4 times as we were browsing the selection. I had just come back from the range, and was not in my sunday best i suppose. The gimpy asian sneered the entire time and kept trying to up-sell me on a more expensive brand. He told me that his store did not carry norinco even though they were listed on the site and when I asked when he would get some in, he said its hard to tell because norinco is norcino is norinco...I left feeling fairly uncomfortable, spending several thousand at other stores such as tenda and marstar because, dude you work as a sales agent, get over yourself. I've purchased a few restricted items at This shop. When they have a sale ... they usually have some good prices. The selection is standard and ammo is generally well stocked. They offer decent outdoor gear and I support the family run business like this. I'm glad that they are still open in Toronto and offer great outdoor products as an alternate to the big box stores and MEC. They have expanded their firearms lines and are offering better quality items - their website is good but often items are out of stock. Their prices are fair and staff are generally very helpful. Great prices on ammo. Gun stuff is never cheap, but I can always count them to put in an effort to keep the sticker shock down. Even with the ammo shortages and local competitors going out of business (goodbye LeBaron), I can always count on the two Al stores (Al Flaherty's and Al Simmons) to keep their prices fair and be fairly well stocked. The staff is reasonably friendly, but people need to get a clue. Some of the "customers" seem to think this place is a non-alcoholic bar or a therapist's office and get upset when somebody interrupts their conversation to actually buy something read more

Highly recommend you read their return policy and confirm with staff. Staff were rude and inconsiderate when attempting to return a tent which I discovered had some holes after setting it up. Staff was not willing to exchange and informed me to contact tent company. Staff had not informed me that tents were not returnable pre purchase. read more

The worst service I've ever had, anywhere. Not professional, at all. No service, did not help me load the gun cabinet into my car and when I went into the store I got even worst service. The employees were rude and treated me I like was an idiot, like I didn't know what I was talking about. I felt very uncomfortable. Also when I called the store they acted like I was bothering them. Terrible experience trying to shop there for the first time. I was refused entry because my 21 month old did not have on a face mask. Either they have no interest in following the laws or they have not properly educated their staff. The employee was extremely rude when I explained that children under 2 are exempt, and he just kept repeating that it was private property so they could refuse whoever they want. read more

Good selection of knives and firearm parts; most of their popular firearms are "sold out", but I suppose that's in the nature of a smaller store. Plenty of parts and accessories not sold at box stores (in canada anyway), such as magazine tube extensions, close range optics, etc. I was a little put-off by a younger asian man working at the firearms counter. He was not especially helpful in answering questions or providing recommendations. I kind of got the vibe that he was being a little snobby because I was trying to learn more about the stuff I was planning to purchase. Even when I've researched a product, I would also like to hear the vendor's experience (either firsthand or comments from other customers). Anyway, they lost my business because of that. I got a price check on the item, because they do have fair prices, and went to cabela's instead. The gunsmiths and staff in those box stores are much more approachable and friendly than the person I spoke to at Al's. For example, I asked if he could recommend any shooting clubs/ranges in and around the GTA, and he said "Well, I only know the club /I/ shoot at, so..." and then gave me a look like it was some huge private affair and I shouldn't dare ask which club he goes to. Seemed like repressed condescension to me, not exactly suited for working in retail. Anyway, I digress; maybe this person was having an off-day, whatever. This was just my experience. Keep in mind that the older guys at Al's are helpful, it was just the one employee that I felt was rude. I've been in other times to buy odds and ends, but I'll take my gun buying business elsewhere. I guess the bottom line would be that if you can't visit bass pro or cabela's because of travel constrictions (you only use a bike/public transit), or need a certain item (good selection of knives, accessories, etc., adequate selection of handguns - have one shipped from Calgary or Edmonton if you're thinking about it, stores out there have much wider selection than anything in Ontario) then Al Flaherty's is a great option. If you're going to buy a long gun, I'd say find a way to get out to vaughn or barrie, because they have a much greater selection and more helpful staff. read more

I cant believe it, i walked into this place to buy a rifle sling and ended up buying $160 worth of ammo. Anyway i got the sling, i got an extra mag too, and chatted with the staff for a bit. These guys know their stuff. I'm a fan for sure. I saw the gift santa will bring me this year so obviously I will return. Actually i saw my birthday gift there and anniversary and my kids gift and i may have to start celebrating Saturday too since there are so many things i would like to have. From camping to fishing, and hunting and outdoor cooking and survival stuff, its all here. I like the personal feel here. These guys got it going on. read more

Al Flaherty's is awesome. Toronto's last gun store, with excellent selection and sometimes some really good prices that can compete with anything in Canada. They are especially good with Beretta stuff, not just guns but apparel too. All my purchases there have been without any hassle, and Sam is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. read more

Flaherty's are nothing to write home about, on the whole they are more expensive then any of the other arms dealers on most any product I have looked at, or any I currently deal with, their free shipping only kicks in at almost double that of what any other decent seller does, $350.00 as apposed to $200.00, 2 BLR mags were over $40.00 cheaper shipped from 3000kms away than I could buy them from Flaherty's who are only 16.5km from my door, so simply put, why bother when anyone of the many other dealers out there will not only price beat but will provide free shipping to anywhere in the country, and with what I spend on this hobby of mine, I can do so much better than waste my hard earned $$$ at Flaherty's. read more

I felt compelled to sign up for yelp just to leave a review of Al Flaherty's. There customer service is terrible. I have tried to shop there twice and both times had the same experience. When I called to speak to a manager, I was left on hold for more than 15 minutes before I abandoned any hope of a resolution. They may complain about Bass Pro or Cabella's coming in and taking their business, but they are getting what they deserve. I am a happy customer of Bass Pro and will never set foot in Flaherty's again read more
