Have you ever had a Rubicon? You know, Rubicon? The carbonated fruit beverage? It comes in mango flavor here. There are many flavors of Rubicon -- Lychee, Passion Fruit, Guava; they only serve mango at Al Fanouse, but it compliments all of their dishes brilliantly.
Come here for lunch, their set meal dishes and their lunchbox special are terrific and well portioned, despite only setting you back a few quid. The people that work here (whose names I've never learned) are the friendliest group of people I've ever met -- even though i don't know *THEIR* names, i wouldn't be surprised if they all knew mine.
The restaurant has a front area where the kitchen / counter is among a handful of seats and tables, and a back area where the Slough youth go to smoke shisha. I don't care for the Slough youth, but i like the smell of shisha, and you can't really beat the atmosphere on their rear terrace, which is fenced in, and draped with various cloths to keep you shaded. For these reasons i choose to tolerate the Slough youth.
My only complaint with this place (besides the Slough youth) is that the new doors they've installed open INTO eachother. This is a new addition to the restaurant, which struggled to stay warm throughout the biting cold of the Berkshire winter. It's warmer now, but quite a bit more difficult to enter than it was before. I don't care for a lack of ergonomics in my doorways, and i don't care for Slough youth... but i love the food and the staff, so you can expect to see me here time and time again for the unforeseeable future. read more
