My buddy who lives in Ridgewood Queens invited over for a small bbq last night. Like I always say,…read moreI hate showing up to someone's house empty handed so I popped open Yelp on my phone and found this awesome meat shop. It's a bit hard to find as it's actually inside a larger grocery store... so once you walk into the entrance, head all the way to the back and to the right (not to be confused with the deli meat counter, go passed that). I got 2lbs of NY Strip steak and they were cut perfectly. I used a cast iron pan, put it on high heat and I let it get reallly hot as I prepped the steaks (while watching a youtube steak cooking tutorial at the same time... it's always helpful to have a reminder). I patted the steaks dry, added some grinded pink himalayan salt, pepper and garlic and seared them over some ghee butter for about 3 minutes on each side. I overdid them a little bit as I tried gettting fancy and covered it with another pan for about a minute. Next time I'll probably skip that step but all in all, it came out delicious! My friends were pretty impressed with my youtube cooking skills but there's always room for improvement. Oh and I forgot to mention the best part... their customer service! When I went to pay I realized I left my wallet at home and they were totally going to hold the steak for me for when I got back. Luckily, they also took apple pay so I was good to go, but I really appreciated that they didn't scoff or make it a big deal! I told my buddy who lives in the area all about them and he's excited to give them a try himself. While I wasn't a fan of the grocery store (it seemed like none of the customers there had an aisle manners), I can't blame them for that.

Quality Meats easily gave one of the best steakhouse experiences I've had in NYC. From the second…read morewe walked in, the atmosphere felt upscale without being overly stiff or pretentious. The staff was welcoming, attentive throughout the entire dinner, and made the experience feel smooth from start to finish. Every course came out timed perfectly and you could tell there's real attention to detail here. We started with the pork belly and it was incredible. Perfectly crisp on the outside while still being super tender and flavorful inside. Rich without feeling too heavy, and balanced really well overall. Definitely not a throwaway appetizer -- it set the tone for the rest of the meal immediately. The Fire Porterhouse was the main event and completely lived up to the hype. Easily one of the most flavorful steaks I've had. The char and smokiness on the outside paired perfectly with how juicy and tender the inside was. Every bite had that perfect steakhouse flavor while still tasting high quality and refined. You can tell they know exactly what they're doing with their meat preparation. It's the kind of steak you keep thinking about after dinner ends. For dessert we got the upside down ice cream cone, which was honestly the perfect ending to the night. Presentation was fun and unique, but it also actually tasted amazing -- creamy, balanced, and not overly sweet. A lot of restaurants focus too much on presentation with desserts, but this one delivered on both. Overall, the combination of the food quality, service, atmosphere, and attention to detail made this an easy 5-star experience for me. Quality Meats absolutely deserves its reputation and is 100% worth visiting if you're looking for a top-tier steakhouse in NYC. Definitely a spot I'll be returning to.

I told myself I was going to start bringing lunch to work. You know--be healthy, save money…read more.. maybe a nice yogurt. Right on cue, my coworker texts: "Where are we eating?" Well. That plan died instantly. We had just gone to Rocco's Steakhouse yesterday for steak... so naturally, we decided to go out for steak again. Because balance. Four of us rolled out like we had a reservation with destiny. We started strong: Grilled bacon with peanut butter and jalapeño. My coworkers loved it. I personally don't believe peanuts belong anywhere near my bacon, but I respected the chaos. Massive cocktail shrimp with three sauces--we split those like civilized people. Cobb salad, for health. Obviously. Then came: Dry-aged porterhouse meatballs with gorgonzola crema and black garlic. Good--but in my world, meatballs belong in a proper red sauce. I'm traditional like that. Main event: Bone-in dry-aged prime sirloin. Delicious. Tuscan-style, not drowning in butter. Ordered medium rare... received "this cow has a LinkedIn profile." Sides absolutely stole the show: The Quality Potato (elite) Gnocchi & cheese (life-changing) Brussels sprouts (so we can keep pretending we're making good choices) Dessert:Carrot cake ice cream slice + espresso. Because at this point, why stop? Service was amazing--our waitress and busboy were so engaging they even brought us extra cookies. I felt seen. The place itself is cozy, warm, a little industrial, and tucked below ground--like a delicious steak bunker. Anyway... I'll bring that yogurt tomorrow.Probably.
